After a long, soul-searching journey, top-ranked assassin Travis Touchdown returns to his hometown of Santa Destroy…just in time for aliens to invade!
The mastermind behind this intergalactic imposition is none other than the criminal overlord, Jess-Baptiste VI, known to his friends as Prince FU.
To decide Earth’s fate, FU establishes the Galactic Superhero Rankings, made up of the galaxy’s most deadly alien assassins – AKA, the buddies he made while incarcerated at the Blackhole Prison.
Never one to back down from a fight, Travis must work his way back up the rankings and reclaim his title….oh, and save the planet!

The open world returns, as does so much of that scattershot humour, in this uneven but enjoyable sequel.

No More Heroes 3 is an amusing but extremely uneven sequel only likely to appeal to Suda 51 diehards – and even for that audience, it takes several steps backward from the likes of No More Heroes 1 and 2. Combat can occasionally find its flow, particularly during its entertaining boss battles, but poor technical performance and the barebones tedium between them make this a lackluster homecoming for Grasshopper Manufacture’s flagship series.

No More Heroes III has the faults of both its mainline predecessors – it’s a little more tedious than No More Heroes 2, and a little less meaningful than No More Heroes. It makes up for this, however, by being another inarguably impressive, balls-to-the-wall carnage-fest, a blood-spattered love letter to excess, and a Suda51 fan’s wet dream splashed across the Switch. The story it tells is cool. The game it plays is cool. Neither of these crucial aspects reach the heights of the series' Nintendo Wii origins, but nobody who truly gets No More Heroes could reasonably be disappointed with this third incarnation. The joke’s beginning to wear thin, but it’s all in the telling. And Suda51 can still spin a very fine yarn.

Great OT!!! I’m enjoying the crap of this game, in my opinion this game is best in the series.
I haven't played much but I am thinking the same...it feels like a more polished sequel to the first game than the second.
Always nice to have a new crazy Suda51 title to enjoy for the first time :)

2nd game did lot of things I just didn't liked, one is replacing city traversal for menus and the combat is actually worse than original.

This 3rd game almost improves everything from first two games and unlike 2nd one the boss fight really fun and memorable in my opinion.

Nice to see an OT for this game. Also the impressions. I plan on getting this on payday this week. My girl and I were hooked on the story trailers, and we were laughing watching some Japanese previews. Suda51 is one of those special guys, I've loved so many of his games. Plus, Travis Touchdown and I share a name, gotta get it for that.

I'm really confused that Suda made a statement saying the series is over, because the ending went out of its way to leave the door wide open for a sequel and even tease what it would be about.

Part of me wonders if Suda was just bluffing with that statement to make it more shocking when Travis got killed or something. Also, what the fuck was up with Henry in general? I know I missed a couple of plot points from skipping TSA but Henry's stuff felt completely out of the blue. I enjoyed the ride but I'm already hungry for more.

I actually have a gripe about the combat in this one that I don't remember having from the first two: the input buffering is ridiculous! I'll be mashing the attack button and then have a sudden need to cancel into a dodge and Travis just keeps on swinging for like two seconds before the dodge comes out.

For me when use light attack I could dodge right away but not haavy attack and if you use it’s combo then Travis has to finish his combo before he can dodge.
 
Finishing up NMH2 before getting started with 3 and I'm just now remembering how the second half of NMH2 really loses steam.

Looking forward to starting NMH3, it looks like it combines the best from the first two games.

That part makes sense, but I would rather the game just forget that I pressed "evade" or "jump" once a full 2 seconds ago. Usually by the time the input comes out the situation has changed and I no longer want to do that, but the game just dutifully carries out every button press on a delay.

It's definitely a big step up from the second game in pretty much every regard. I honestly struggle to remember any of the bosses from 2.
 
A few hours in and overall I'm really enjoying the game. Combat feels great and the difficulty is much more pronounced. You can't just button mash the same way you could in NMH2.

The elephant in the room are the open world areas. They really are rough. Aside from the sub 30 fps framerate (which is made even more jarring considering all the combat areas are a fairly stable 60fps) definitely detracts from the experience. There's also a lack of anti aliasing and tons of LOD texture and geometry pop in that combines to create a very jumpy picture.

Aside from the graphical issues, the environments are pretty static, can't ride your bike over tiny hills, light posts/street signs knock you off. There isn't any major gameplay going on in the open world, but it's really distracting.

Having said that, if you like the first two, definitely get this game.

Despite the issue in its open world, I still prefer that over what they did in NMH2, making the city just selectable menu.

Loving this, just got rank 6 last night, anyone peep this mod for emulators?



All that being buried in the switch version makes me sad...but hopeful that we will get a couple nice ports down the line.

Fantastic game, I think it's the best in the series.

Finished the game last night. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit - was a little disappointed that the restricted areas on the map didn't open up after defeating Fu. It would be cool if there was some DLC with all those areas opened up.

Agreed, here’s hoping we get a directors cut or some DLC with some extra fights and areas. And hopefully a PC port.

I'm guessing the switch exclusivity is probably for a year or so. With it running on unreal, we'll definitely get a PC port down the road...and I'll buy it.

I thought bringing Destroyman back again was pretty hilarious and it would be cool if there was DLC that had some of the previous assassins brought back in equally absurd ways

I finished this game weeks ago but I keep thinking about it. The game won't stop taking up space in my head. Killer7 and to an extent the first No More Heroes did this to me too.

I'm really gonna have to play The Silver Case and The 25th Ward, and soon.
Just ordered this from Amazon. Got a good price for a new item. 45 EUR. Will come back during the weekend for impressions. How long is it? That’s the general consensus for playtime?
I'd say it's the same length as 1 and 2.

I would say it´s a bit longer than the previous two. In my first run I played almost 30 hours, but that´s because the fights were just too fun (for me at least) so I tried to complete all the fight quests.

What did the performance update do that I read about? I haven’t been able to play my copy in a few weeks and now Metroid takes priority.
