[Digital Foundry] Deathloop - The Technical Review

Well you're right about that, I was moreso talking about the overall style of '' realism ''.
But I will give you that the 60's aesthetic is a tad more original.

It doesn't really appeal to me personally tho.
I can understand that, i'm not really huge fan of 60s myself, but after many games i just trust arkane when it comes to art design.

Man the game does not look good for a next gen only game. I really dont understand the point of DF vids anymore. Are they just for pixel counting and framerate analysis? This is a next gen only game that looks worse than last gen games. Surely they should spend some time talking about that. Compare the game to other next gen only games maybe.

We dont have many publications that focus on graphics and the ones that do apparently are only interested in basic pixel counting. Lame.

- performance mode target 4K/60fps
- medium resolution 1296-1440p (1080p possible)
- quality mode 1836p target 60fps
- RT mode target 4K dyn/30fps
- lowest resolution 1836p
- performance mode is locked at 60fps 99% of the time
- quality mode is more like 40-50fps
- RT mode is locked at 30fps but have frame pacing issues
- PS5 performance in non-RT modes is similar to RX 5700 XT and RTX 2070 Super

Not surprising about the resolution drops considering how bad this game seems to run on high end PC hardware.

Man I really want to get this game considering how well it reviewed. For anyone that has it, how is the dual sense support compared to games like Ratchet and Clank and Returnal?

Yes, DF videos used to include analysis of the overall visuals, but nowadays they just talk about resolution and framerate. They honestly do not have to make a video for it, they could just dump the info on a simple excel sheet and call it a day.

A bit surprising how demanding this seems to be considering it doesn't look like such a big leap from their last gen games.
The 60fps seems fine I guess, but as low as 1080p for 60fps is a bit disappointing

LOL they switch to Prey footage at one point in the video, and for a second I didn't even notice it was a different last gen game.

When I get invaded by another player framerate takes a dip even on performance mode. The game really needs better optimization. Aside from that I've been having A LOT of fun. My personal GOTY so far.

Wait...so what is the difference between performance and quality mode when both of those are in 60FPS? Looking at high res of the RT, makes me think that there is something CPU bound. I am stuck at traffic, so I can't really watch the video. Fuck traveling by car. Should have took metro.

Texture filtering seems to be much better in Visual mode

So only the performance mode has acceptable performance (and luckily it's great in that mode).

I'm pretty sure that's just a result of a significantly higher rendering resolution. Filtering itself is the same.

Pretty much only resolution. Quality mode never goes below 85% of 4K, performance mode goes much lower.

Those graphics don't warrant such low res, even at 60fps. What engine is this using?
Looks like the same one as their previous games.

Which is weird since they really seemed to have learned their lesson after Dishonored 2, with Prey being amazingly optimized at least on PC.
I remember there being a digital foundry article where they said they could get it to 1080p/60fps on a 2Gb GTX1050 by dropping a few graphical options

Performance and quality both "target" 60fps, but only performance mode hits it consistently 99% of the time.
Quality mode usually runs in the low 50's and drops to around 45fps during heavy combat sequences, it only reaches 60fps when looking at the floor, or some wall.

this is how nextgen looks without any crossgen limitation/downgrades !

Definitely seems like it's not the best game in terms of optimization, I'm not mega interested so will pick up when it's first sale pops up.

I think the game is extremely uneven, like enemies looks almost low poly but then you have some instances where the game looks pretty great (for an old gen game) with the right lights\scene.

Same for the textures, some very bad low res ones, and for example the leather on colt's jacket is as detailed as the leather on kratos in ragnarock (or very close)

Chalk this up to a less technically proficient studio and they didn't exactly have a budget of a AAA game.

I think it's a solid effort given their using DRS among other new gen tricks.

Yeah, drops all the way down to 1080p are a bit surprising. Game seems to need more ressources than anticipated.

They're still using that shitty modified id Tech 6 from dishonoured 2 thats worse than actual id Tech 6

The game was obviously in development long before the next gen console specs were known and was almost definitely conceived with the xbone and ps4 in mind.

Plus, I doubt that Arkane really gave this the polish that it deserved since they wont be releasing anything else on the platform again.

And smaller team. I never had high Hope's for the PS5 Version. Smaller teams usually dont use console hardware efficiently.. the ger it running and then care for other stuff. Never a good comparision against the respective PC version..
However, laughed out when by the end of the vid I realized that Alex won't talk about load times..
The one Area where PS5 has an natural advantage over ANY PC out there is not talked about.. hehe who would have thought...🤣

The small PC loving Twat will play this Game and marginalize PS5s I/O miracle right until Direct Storage is out and has its first couple of proper supported games with RTX I/O and what not . He THEN will make big comparison sections in his review videos where he shows how PC (LIKE 5% OF ALL PCs but will be portrayed as all PCs)is easily faster in loading than even a PS5 ...
The PC loving litte Turd haha😅

Arkane games always suck balls in terms of optimisation.

Dishonored 2 was (still is) garbage in terms of frame pacing.

Had a couple of freezes that lasted about five to ten seconds on Ps5, but other than that, it’s been butter in performance mode.

Thanks for the summary.

What a bummer I was so hyped for this and the PC version has stuttering issues in general and with the PS5 version you are forced into a low res mode just to make it run properly, I'm going to wait until the PS5 RT modes frame-pacing is fixed or the PC version is fixed in general.

Watching now but this sounds ass, its not really a choice of modes if two of the three modes are broken/have massive downsides because constant v-sync stutter in the Quality mode is unacceptable and bad frame-pacing in the RT mode is always unplayable to me, since its 30fps. I was hoping to play this in the RT mode and just enjoy the image quality.

The RT seems to be a big part of the presentation, hopefully on PC there is actually an replacement for the missing AO when RT is off.

So I have to play at sub-1440p just to have it run properly? *blows raspberry* It doesn't look bad or anything but I'd rather wait and play it in a better state later on. Wtf is going on with these framepacing-fucked releases recently?!?? I don't care why its happening please just:
