God of War Ragnarok Writer Champions Angrboda as Part of "Our own spin" on Norse mythology

I wish some folks were able to see that *most* people aren't upset that she's black. Like, it literally doesn't matter what her skin colour is. It's more the reason as to WHY she's black, which is 99% gonna be SJW Pandering.
It wouldn't surprise me if they'd gone through the cast, looked at them all and gone "Shit, no black people. Best not to outrage the twiter mobs" and added/changed her.

Besides all that, she's a giant right? From a completely different REALM. Who's to say a whole realm out of 9 different ones wouldn't have black people in it?
Whole thing is pretty ridiculous tbh.

This is the kind i can't get behind....
It feel forced....if color of the character is not use in any plot then there is no reasons.
And if it's the case isn't Marvel blue fine for it ? it feel more coherent and less breaking suspension of disbelief especially when the character is a ice giant...
Also couldn't you tell your difference speech only by her being a giant ?
I don't think they can convince me this was a good choice here

In the past few days on NeoGAF I have seen people say Deathloop only got good reviews as they "bent the knee" and made their two main characters black, and now this mess.

The developers can NEVER win, really they should stay quiet as either way they'll piss off one corner of the crowd anyways, I don't think this is tokenism and I can't wait to see how they handle this interpretation of Angrboda.

I think it's time that those opposed to this started thinking about why seeing black people in forms of media pisses them off so much, and then maybe we'll get somewhere....

The only problem I have with this is that it feels weird when race/agenda is used as a selling point. That's how it always feels positioned in these trailers, instead of treating it like its normal.

Why does it matter that this character is black? Why is that offensive in the slightest?
I will only talk for me
it's not a real problem and will not prevent me to play and love (or not) the game but is criticism allowed about this choice ?
I think the one i made earlier is not because i'm racist or intolerant and hate difference....Again here i don't really see the motivation behind the choice of black skin for an ice giant outside free advertising through social media controversy.
Her being a giant and the others Asgardian, Olympian, humans or a mix of all of them is already enought if you have any difference speech or story to tell.

As a writer, your job is to tell stories that are compelling & relatable. You bring pieces of yourself to stories and your opinions shine through. So writing is *always* political—it's just usually only called that if the politics aren't agreed with

No it isn't. As a write your job is to tell an engaging story, create interesting worlds and character the audience cares about, that's really it. But in modern world it's way too much to ask for all the energy and focus goes into politics and driving agendas.

That being said, I really feel the girl will be used to transition the action from Norse to Egyptian mythology.

In my experience the people who say "but it's fantasy so anything goes" are usually the same people who screamed "whitewashing" the loudest in other fantasy/fictional entertainment when the roles were reversed. The inconsistency at display is always staggering, but never unexpected.

Anyways, I've kinda had enough of all these (white) activist industry people who think they're bravely breaking barriers. Just own up to your limp dick activism and call it a day. We all know what it is.

This is not the same as Assassin's Creed or other games based in real historical events. There are thousands of stories set with Greek, Roman or Norse gods and all of them add their own twists and new characters.

Why does it matter that this character is black? Why is that offensive in the slightest?
It's coastal elites pandering to minorities and virtue signalling among their fellow coastal elites. And that's totally fine, they should just stop gaslighting everyone and admit what they're doing.

More "pandering"?
I'm not into capeshit so idk. It's a similar constellation of "Norse god being black" though so it's at least sus.
Tarantino you pandering bastard!!!!!!!

How is this comparable?

Some people are weird.

Game has a big booty Korean waifu main character: there's complains.

Game has a black kid: there's complains.

Game has a generic bald dude as mc: there's complains.

Game has a fat Thor..... Guess what?

Don't like it, don't buy... No one is making you buy the game. Also, if a fictional character can make you outrage... Well... Get help.

If "gamers" (the whiney, loud minority of them) keep going on with this useless bitching about stuff like this, we will end up with character models like this:

and you know what? I fucking hate tofu!

I have no problems with it honestly.

Though they've obviously done their research on Nordic culture, God of War at it's very core is already a spin considering a Greek god living in Norse Mythology.

I wish they would have just ditched Norse, and went to Egypt/ Africa. It’s more interesting, different stories to be told, and I could buy that Kratos went to Egypt after Greece.

Do we know why Thor is fat in this game?

Is it because he, too, blames himself for everything and should've gone for the head..?

I'm at an age where I play games because I find them fun and their stories remotely interesting.

Couldn't care less about the characters colours or how attractive they are.

You'll find a strong correlation between posters (on any forum) who cry about females who aren't models and ugly in games and the same ones crying that every time a game has a non white character shouting WOKE and sjw pandering trash.

I see the narrative has changed from it's not because she's black, but why is this black person here in this Norseland. Its a ridiculous shift just to complain about the same thing.

I mean, he's not wrong in what he said, it's their take, they can do whatever they want with it in that sense.

Besides it was never meant to be historically accurate in any sense.

Watch her become blue at some point and suddenly those folks won't care, lol.

It's funny to me that aside from this, I've seen people be up in arms about "fat" Thor, lmao. Fat, strong, grizzly bear Thor.

As a person from Sweden I feel attacked and violated by this design decision. My ancestors is turning in their graves.

Just kidding, no I didn't care about the choice to make one of the characters black. If it becomes more reliable and bring joy to some gamers, good.
