[Push Square] Gran Turismo 7's PS5, PS4 Campaign Requires an Online Connection

So your not going to buy GT7 because you're worried about the servers being taken off-line in 7-10 years? If that's your choice then you do you I guess. I dont foresee a scenario where an old game is taken off-line without atleast 2 newer versions being available.
Where does the lower bound of 7 years come from? And you also expect Polyphony to make 2 sequels until then? This sounds overly and unnecessary optimistic with the facts from the past.

One problem with games controlled by company servers (especially games with heavy community creations) isnt only it'll be discontinued. Thats happens to all games at some point (although Activision COD seems to last forever, even COD 2!).

But more importantly, when it's shut down with zero heads up.

On the plus side, LBP3 servers are updated and active for PS4.

The games servers were supposed already down due to attacks (but they still didnt give gamers a heads up about perma shut down).

Good old times of LittleBigPlanet. I played the first and second game and had a blast with them. I never touched the third and heard it was unpolished and broken at launch, so I never bothered with it. I didn't know the games were getting attacked but I remember the community always finding ways to break it, or worse, getting to replicate paid dlc to other players. The games were good but I think there is little to no audience for them these days.

As i said before, the biggest problem with the trash forced online DRM, is that you need to update the game in order to play. The few times i tought to play GT Sport, i needed to update the PS4 and then the game itself, things that can take hours, so i just turn everything off and fuck you. And no, i don't leave my console who use once a year on just to update a game, because they have decided what i have to do in order to play that shit.

People who brush off the always online thing are so oblivious. I once had a hurricane hit where I live and lost the ability to have (reliable) internet for 7 months. Guess what games I couldn't play at at all or in a very limited capacity in that time span? I love me some GT but always online shouldn't be a requirement.

GTSport does not require Internet to play the singleplayer. You are talking crap.

You sure? Try save your progress without an internet connection. If you managed to do, please show me how.

Your online connection for singleplayer has nothing to do with the quality of your singleplayer gameplay. There wont be lag or you getting kicekd out of a race all of a sudden. Always online is there for verifying your game is legit and accessing online items like multiplayer, shop for liveries etc.No one can argue especially on this forum that this is an issue as you already are 24/7 connected. And for those saying you want to "own" the game....it sucks but how long are you going to be beating a dead horse? For the last 8-10 years games and their servers are being pulled.

Look at NFS...they recently completely removed 4 titles from the late 2000s. Unless you have a physical copy or download a torrent, you can never play the game anymore. What about Driveclub, you can only find a physical copy but the servers are gone which made up the majority of the game and all the DLC is wiped out which made the game better than it was. Forza Motorsport 7 is a 4 year old game and its getting removed forever from the shops. Unless you find a physical copy you can never buy this game online again and thats only after 4 years. I dont like it either but, this is the way its going to be, you dont own shit anymore. We arent in the SNES/megadrive era anymore.

I can't care less if it will affect my single player sections with lag or not. What I care is that some idiot is trying to force me to be online to play.

That alone is problem enough. If that is not a problem why the heck do a lot of people complained about the Xbox idea of online check with the console and their games?

Every time anyone try to force me to do a thing, I'm out. Especially if I have to pay for that.

Yeah, my devices stays connected 24/7. But if I what to disconnect all my devices I can and I can continue to use it. The same goes for my games.

If they don't give me options, I won't give them my money. I

About Driveclub, anyone can buy a physical copy of the game and play it. Yeah, you don't have access to multiplayer and DLCs, but here is a full game inside the disc that you can play and have fun without bein forced to go online.

The game being axed from the online store isn't a problem. The problem is that we are giving control of our games to others. I will not support that. Unless I get it for free. I will never put my money in a game that I have to wish that the developer or the publisher keeps it online so I can play.

You can still have MTX with an offline mode (if they really want to push those). Just show all the various options in a 'disabled' state and when interacted with, ask people to connect. Not that I want that. They shouldn't force online, no matter what. I guess I am glad I am mostly into arcade racing games anyway — I guess many of those also require an online connection too. I have never gotten a Gran Turismo game....maybe on the PS3 I did.

Ok. So what?

If you don't like use the button that says

And be happy.

this is concerning. you have to select a track first and then you get to see the event?
MXDrxBW.jpg

I personally like it, it's a slight adjustment which will give the game a fresh feeling, but at the end of the day won't change anything, because you'll most likely still have to do X certain events before you can progress any further, you clear the map = new events show up.

Don't know if you are aware of this but almost all racing game have an expiry date. We don't what kind of restrictions are there in GT7 so everything is speculation at the moment
Don't know if you are aware of this but this thread is about forced online connection in single player mode.

Has anyone seen a petition to remove the online requirement for single player career? Of course online is great and fun but I can’t believe they want to do this. It’s foolish.

So apparently its from car manufacturer who dont want to give license for unlimited time. Car racing game really have lots of issues

that has literally nothing to do with the thread title.

the licenses for Forza Horizon 1 ran out years ago, you can still play it offline AND online to this day. No other Car Sim series has these limitations in place, not even Forza Horizon 4 which is highly online focused (shared open world with other random players + weekly seasons + events + livery sharing etc.), even that game has an offline mode which is even specifically tailored to work better as an offline experience (Seasonal Changes are every hour in that mode so that you can still play through all the content easily without the need to track multiple days of activity offline)

This decision is very confusing

Why the hell you have to be online for single player campaign

Who made this awful decision
Could be a license thing like Driveclub. For driveclub, they turned off the mp servers and removed the game from PSN so that they dont have to pay the car licenses, but you can still play single player so they are probably paying for that even after taking the game off sale.

By making the game online only, they can just turn off the servers and then no one can play the game = no paying for licenses even for single player.

In today's GT7 interview, there was a blurb about needing an online connection for campaign mode to prevent cheating and the livery is downloaded from online. But there is an arcade that doesnt. Any mode that requires saved data of some kind requires online connection.

I dont get why they are doing this? Is the game coming to PC or something? Or is PS4 illegal games a thing? Anyways this studio is pretty shit.

Polyphonys "flop" sold 8+ million copies.

How many Japan Studios games would you have to add up to get to 8 million?
PlayStation gamers don't have very many first-party options in the racing genre anymore, and the 3rd party racing offerings are pretty crap aside from the Dirt series.

Is to have control over planned obsolescence, and convenience on Sony side.
It's also easier to deal with licences. In the end, it's only a poor billionaire worldwide company. I'm sure you understand how this is necessary.

well if u dont have internet in 2022, u should prolly play something similar>>

I guess you also have a smartphone, but no game requires you to have it next to you at all times to even access completely unrelated features.

The point is not that you have internet, is that it's totally unnecessary and only a constant hindrance to the consumer, only to make it easier for Sony to close shop in 3-4 years.

Also, yeah, your internet service is a separate entity can have problems you know. That's where the fun begins.

Raytracing in replays and show room or only in visamode ...hmm.

That aged well.

So how are your phones smart features gonna work if you have problems with the Internet?

Geez, Where's the good news about this game?

In GT5 and 6 I lost replays and even tracks when they turned the servers off - even for single player mode. You would think at least the replay would still stick around.
That same thing will likely happen here when they deem the lifespan of the game over.
Sucks.

What the fuck is going on with GT7, I was so on board with this game, day one purchase, then suddenly things start leaking like ray tracing only in replays, forced online for single player. I just wanted to pay 70 for a good looking racing game I can play by myself on my PS5.

Is that for real??
I mean ok internet connection , but losing stuff even in single player mode?!?!?

Phones are useless pieces of junk without connection, yes. Unless you use offline apps (surprise!).

But that's not even the question, since we're talking about the single-player side of the game who should not (and must not) have "smart" features.
Again, I see no upside of this choice, there's just resignation on one side and bad faith on the other.

Probably about 5-6 years ago on GT6 I worked on this one challenge for a month straight. Ferrari F40 Time Trial on Cape Ring - Reversed full track.
It took me probably 100 tries. This one single challenge was one of the most satisfying completions ive had in any game. You had to learn the track and car inside and out. It was also this challenge that showed me how superior Gran Tursimo still was to the competition.

Fast forward to just this year - I was checking out my GT6 saves and backups.
My F40 replay was gone - and that track variant is gone too - you cannot access Cape Ring full track reversed anymore since, I assume, they turned the servers off.
Total BS.

Oh man, i've saved the replay of my perfect Nurburgring run for an online event in GT6. It was game over with 1 wheel on the grass. Took me so much time, i played in my spare time bewteen workshifts. If i've lost that i will legit cry.
