Nintendo is firing on all cylinders right now and it's great to see after the Wii U era

Tag, you're it.
Not sure how people can convince themselves these aren't appealing. I get Brain Age isn't for everyone, but I used to love the cheaper, quirky 3DS games that were built for quick handheld play. They're not cinematic or filled with deep thoughts about fatherhood, but they're typically pretty fun.
Different games for different people. It's good to have ip like that for sure, but I also need some big title and beside BOTW2, there really nothing appealing to me in that list.
I don't know how anyone can scoff at Triangle Strategy. If turn based strategy isn't your thing, it's just a matter of mismatched preference but as a game the demo was incredible
I have nothing against the game ^^ it's more a lack of very big title coming to Switch, and as I said no Hogwarts Legacy, Kena, Elden Ring etc... because the Switch can't handle more demanding titles is a big problem (in my opinion, it's ok to disagree)
Whats wrong about Triangle Strategy?
Nothing.

I will happily say that that I am day one in for SMT V, Splatoon 3, BOTW2, and Kirby looked fun but the hardcore Nintendo fans creep me the fuck out.

Most comments in threads like these are a nice reality check that gaf is out of touch. Nintendo is the #1 gaming company out there right now.
People don't understand the scope of how impressive they are.

They are the only company in gaming that are capable of being completely self sustainable.

They are quite a small company as well in terms of manpower, yet they are single highhandedly taking on all of gaming with their hardware and software and coming on top.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
The Wii I was a multi screen movement, I think Nintendo is a great alternative to PlayStation but until they decided to take graphics and power seriously and put them together with their creative gimmicks Nintendo will have a ton of power imagine playing gta and Zelda all day long on one console.

most people are nintendo fans, it’s just we only really like the 1 or 2 superb games that come out every few years, not everything else. Most have moved on to other platforms as are primary and realize what Nintendo is now

the ones you are taking about are the super fans. Good for them if that’s what they enjoy but there’s also plenty of those on other platforms
Switch is a secondary console for most adults, and that reflects it's software output.

If they did that, the console would be more expensive to manufacture. And then only a fraction of the money would be available for marketing, which is one of the tactics that has uplifted them.

It's just part of the strategy.

Why is having a pricy console a bad thing if you get around your gta less restricted past? It’s not like the PS5 and Xbox are pricy and those are fantastic VR machines. A powerful Nintendo could happen and you’re not gonna have to get a PS5 to play cod or assassins creed.

What time is it?
Nintendo was smart to zag from the power wars of the other two console manufacturers. Every time they try to keep pace in that regard, they fail miserably. I hope they stick with NVidia long term. DLSS could do wonders for their next hybrid.

That's a funny way of looking at it considering they've had a complete monopoly over handheld gaming and everyone who has challenged them there got beaten out of the space. I'm sure given the opportunity, their competitor's would trade places in a heartbeat when considering how much more profitable Nintendo is in gaming.

Also, it's not an achievement to create a powerful console. It's just not Nintendo's space because third parties drive the power race and MS and Sony have set up ecosystems for them specifically. Nintendo is powerful enough to succeed on their own and the big AAA third parties generally don't want to compete with Nintendo's software on Nintendo's platforms. Look at the top 10 selling game rankings every month. Nintendo has evergreens that live there.

... What? I don't think we even occupy the same reality, because in the world I live in, the Series systems don't get their first major exclusives until this November and the PS5

Advanced platform owners have 3rd party games + exclusives. a multitude of games not coming to the Switch. no Farcry/CoD/Apex/Tales/Yakuza/AC/BF/SW/RE/DMC/Destiny.

So Switch not enough to be a standalone console.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to disrespect you or call you out but you have to understand that it's okay to like a company but also criticize them for what they do.

The Switch has a huge number of third party titles, to the point that the eShop is almost impossible to cleanly navigate. It also has its share of timed and console exclusive games from both major third parties and indies.

What it doesn't have are that many recent AAA third party games, so, yes, if that's what you're in it for, then it's not the console for you, but don't pretend your tastes are monolithic.

Of the series you've listed, the only ones I would personally play if they were on the Switch are Far Cry and Tales of Arise, and, honestly, Tales will probably find it's way there in six months to a year, as that seems to be the case with most Bamco games. It's all just taste. "Advanced platform holders" is silly meaningless jargon.

Edit: Oh, and this is pedantic, but Apex Legends has been on the Switch since March. (Plus multiple games from other series you listed are on the platform, but I know you are only referring to the current gen iterations.)

What are your thoughts on it potentially releasing in 2023? I considered this, but not much. I think it might be possible that the game will be worked on until 2023
BOTW coming in 2023 wouldn't bother me, as long as it comes to the current switch.

Really the only Nintendo exclusive I deeply care about is Xenoblade. I really hope 3 comes out next year.

I've had a Switch Lite and I'm convinced that Nintendo isn't for me anymore. I bought BotW, MK8 Deluxe, and Sonic Forces.

Had the most fun with Mario Kart, but I think I just might have outgrown Nintendo. I get their supposed to be the "fun" gaming company, but I just don't see it.

How old are you if I may ask? I went through a phase like that with Nintendo in my 20s. Not everything they produce is a banger, but the Switch is probably my favorite library since the SNES.

Your first mistake was getting the Switch Lite. That’s just a backup Switch. You gotta purchase the real thing and play with a Switch Pro Controller or other controllers to get the most out of the games IMO. I abhor the Joycons, that’s no way to game

28. Haven't enjoyed a Nintendo console since the DS Lite. Had a Wii but it was a novelty item.

Not sure if that would make a difference lol.

Then why is on pace to be the best selling of all time?
same reason couch class sales are the highest. because its the cheapest and good enough for the need. and Switch is a crossover that is mainly a handheld. it's the 2nd option for everyone.

The Switch has a huge number of third party titles..

but not THE 3rd party titles. the app store has even more games but few interesting ones.

If it weren't for the Wii U, the Wii might be the low point for me. The Galaxy games and Wii Bowling were great though.

You've got BOTW though and that's what sold me on the Switch. It's the first 3D Zelda that I've truly loved. It ranks pretty high up there with my favorite open world games. It's just such a neat little sandbox. So if that didn't resonate with you, I can understand being dissatisfied.

I think I go through periods of hating modern gaming trends and now is definitely one of those periods. Nintendo is comfort food and just makes a bunch of "game ass games" that are usually far enough removed from the current trends that I can't help but appreciate them.

So the recommendation is don't use it as a portable when it was designed to SWITCH between a home and portable console and spend even more money on an underpowered gimmick console to make it playable because the joycons suck? Why not just get a console that costs roughly the same that can run third party shit

As for me, I love that I can switch between portable and docked. And I love the first party games plus the great Japanese Third Parties support.

The Switch was more expensive than the PS4 Slim and XB1 for most of it's shelf life since 2017 and still outsold them.

The Switch Lite is $100 cheaper than the Switch and the Switch outsells it roughly 4:1.

No mario, no karting/racing game, no notable RPG...is this all cylinders?? The only thing that matters to me is bayonetta 3, a game that started as multiplat and I would love it if it stayed that way.

because it was 2017. most gamers got a PS4/Xbox already.

Switch is a AA console, priced like a AA console and sells like AA console.

True, I cant deny that its a popular rpg. I dont like atlus rpgs, i dont like the daily sim aspect. But you are right, I missed that one.
That I get. There's certain RPGs I'm not that into. Squaresoft Triple A JRPGs bore me to tears. Out of the triple A JRPGs Tales of Arise interest me the most

That's how I feel like towards Persona 5.

Yep, gotta do it right bro.

Botw sucks is your first problem. Play Mario oddyssey on a docked switch then go from there. Luigi 3 is solid.

I can't agree after two years of rereleases. Metroid will be the first time in a long time the Switch has had anything I've been interested in.
