So it's a patch for $60?
Feels like it since as far as I know OW players play with OW2 players as the MP is being merged.
More deets here:
Overwatch 2 announced for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC - Gematsu

  • Keep Your Collections – Your accomplishments and loot collections will be carried forward to Overwatch 2. That means you’ll keep your skins, player icons, sprays, emotes, and more!
  • New Maps and Heroes – Current Overwatch players will battle side-by-side with Overwatch 2 players in player-versus-player multiplayer; they’ll also be able to play Overwatch 2 heroes and maps.

OW2's biggest feature is the Hero/Story Missions.

Hmm interesting. I kinda thought it got cancelled, haven't heard much about it.

I’ve got 113 hours in Overwatch but I just don’t see the point of this. Why wouldn’t I just keep playing Overwatch 1?
Pretty sure it replaces overwatch 1 as free upgrade/update, well if they are still doing what they said with the initial reveal. :)
You pay for the campaign though.

Considering you don't hear a thing about overwatch anymore, genuinely surprised to see it is the 24th most played game on Xbox (UK region)

The problem of making a sequel for a game that has to run on a calculator is that you can't improve much without cutting a large number of people who play on notebook or shitty pc.

So basically, Play inclusive games, win unimpressive sequels...

What time is it?
Changes of the top of my head:

-The new game mode seems alright.
-5v5 instead of 6v6
-Not sure I'm a fan of the Bastion rework (can move in turret mode, burst fire in robot form, mortar strike as an ultimate)
-Zarya having a flexible two bubble pool seems like a smart change.
-Sombra's EMP seems deadly.
-Rein is more maneuverable when charging and now has two fire strikes.

Graphically it doesn't appear all that much different. I can see the calls for this coming to Overwatch but I can also understand making it a sequel as some may still want to play classic. I'm mostly curious what they'll do with the monetization. Overwatch is one of the most fair games when it comes to cosmetics and if I had to guess, the sequel will be far less generous.

Overwatch 2 is making changes to both Sombra and Bastion learn more about both of their changes with the Overwatch League hosts and Geoff Goodman. Sombra's hack ability has been tweaked. Bastion has a new ultimate as well as some tweaks to his sentry mode. Learn more about both of their reworks in Overwatch 2

That looks like the same game, just with a content patch. If it's free to play I may check it out seeing as I haven't played the first in at least a year, but if they're charging for it it looks like I won't be missing out on anything if I skip it.

It’s free if you own OW1. The only paid is for OW2 story mode

Looks unremarkable as an update. Honestly don't know what's taking so long. Meanwhile, the first games been left to rot.

Really looking forward to this. Started playing Overwatch again recently, using characters I didn't when I was really into it, and it's still a lot of fun.

I don't know if the devs, blizzard or activision is out of touch with their playerbase, because this just ain't it.

I don't expect this expansion (which is labeled as a sequel) will be a big hit.

Also, blizzard has a bad track of terrible hero balancing, and now are they reworking/rebalancing the entire roster. This doesn't bode well.

Well I get the PvP but I thought their main push for OW2 was PvE.
Hope a better presentation of the game than this is planned.

Overwatch... more like Overstretched...

Honestly what overwatch needed especially with it's expanded cast was more players per match not less.

People don't make games wanting it to be an e-sport and have it be successfull. People make good games that just so happen to become an esport.

Overwatch consistantly makes changes that are unfun for the pug player (the overwhelming majority of the playerbase) to appease the pro's. Resulting in a dropping userbase and disinterest in the pro scene. Games that end up esports spend half a decade as an unbalanced mess which allows for a community to evolve around it before the unfun stuff starts being creeped in for the sake of "balance".

The issue with these types of games is they don't give the community time to become entrenched around it before going all in on esports which forces out the "just for fun" people resulting in Overwatch as it is today.

I'm not expecting much from this... and will still be disappointed, modern Blizzard is just the worst.

As a Sombra main with nearly 200 hours on her, hmm, the changes on her aren’t bad per say, it’ll just take time to get used to.

Thank you. This also hurt Starcraft 2 badly. I always wish they could have gotten around to 2 sooner so it would not have been so influenced by all the changes in the industry and within Blizzard.

I've been playing the game regularly since release and don't like the way OW2 is going.

The pros have often said in the interview after the showmatch that OW2 partly feels a little more like CoD. The heroes are more homogeneous (every hero is getting reworked) and even tanks are now DPS with more HP. In addition, there seems to be a significantly shorter respawn timer (at least for the new map types) and you are back in the fight very quickly.

Let's wait until the beta to find out, but it already feels a bit like it's going more mainstream (CoD, BF, etc.) to appeal to more players and it is moving away more from the class concepts for the heroes. According to experience and past events, Activision certainly plays a role here. Maybe this also explains why people like Jeff Kaplan (who was the executive producer of the game) and some other guys left Blizzard months ago.

I had over 800 hours in OW on PS4, that first year was magical before the introduction of ranked which was the beginning of the end, then came the "balance" changes which slowly but surely killed the game, i finally quit after the forced role queue killed my interest in the game all together, i mean dear GOD you just killed the whole dynamic of the game!

Dude, no joke. I started looking it up. What a fucking SCAM OW 2.0 IS! I wouldn't even call this a MAJOR patch! Some reworks and a new mode? For $60? This shit is going on sale QUICK! CAPS!

That's not a fairt statement. There is certainly more work and attention to detail in OW2 than in many of the so called AAA titles.

This video shows everything wrong with e-sports casting, too many quick jumps around the place by people that I guess don't understand how to make an interesting presentation. I think it's a format problem, they're trying to shoehorn shitty sports casting cuts and direction into gaming, it doesn't work though, gaming is a different beast, I don't want to have a seizure from all the quick jumps that are most times the wrong choice because the people don't follow the action properly.

There has to be a better way to cast this shit, but this ain't it.

Oh Overwatch 2? Blizzard have fucked themselves by their amazing content drops in Overwatch 1, this really just feels like a slightly bigger content drop, not an actual stand alone product. I can't believe they stuck with the same boring art style.

Game update will be huge. Competitive esports is a big business, and OW will be back in action in no time. Kids these days hate on fortnite, and valorant is still in its infancy.

OW will be king once again.

I have played a few games of this kind that overhauled the graphics engine as well as gameplay changes in a huge way without asking the players to pay a single cent.

I don’t see how this justifies buying the game again.

I think they screwed themselves by offering the pvp free for OW1 owners.

I don't care about a campaign for any of this. Curious how many will buy it.

All new skins etc. and maybe some features we don't know yet will probably only be available if you buy OW2 and it's not like OW2 will cost like 500$. I think even people who mainly play PvP will buy it.

Overwatch 1.1 rather than 2

That's not really fair. Every class is completely overhauled, there are several new maps and heroes, new map types, a new graphics engine and all the sound effects have been re-recorded. And we're only talking about PvP, which alone is a much bigger update than the annual releases of CoD, FIFA, Battlefield and co.

The PvE mode alone, the "main feature" of OW2, is expected to be more extensive and polished than most AAA titles.

An update can do all of this. Remember League of Legends?
