Famitsu Sales: 9/20/21 - 9/26/21

This thread is hilarious. You mention good ps5 sales and you're told it's all scalpers. You mention the reason for low software sales is scalpers and you're told they don't buy that story.

Neogaf.gif
Scalpers would explain software sales as a whole, but it's not the primary reason behind the sales of Death Stranding.

I imagined you wouldn't be able to provide some sources. There are none.

Anyway, I really hope that Sony manages to reverse their sjtuation in Japan, but as things stand, it seems that they will do worse than the PS4 did, let alone PS4+Vita.

But death stranding has already made it's sales and the vast majority of director cut sales will be the $10 digital upgrade.

This is major news, as GEO is a major player on the retail game market in Japan with over 1000 stores. Even though hardware wise Xbox X/S are ahead of X1 by a decent margin only 1700 physical software has been sold making it not an especially attractive item for retailers who make most of their profits from software rather than hardware. Wonder if other major chains in Japan follow suit.

I didn’t realize that GEO was still selling Xbox hardware/software.
All the GEOs in my area haven’t had any new Xbox hw/sw in years. Maybe 2016-2017 or around there.

So as long as Sony can make sure anti-Switch exclusives (in other words, games that come out on every platform except Switch) like Tales of Arise and Lost Judgement keep coming out every week they can turn things around.

That's exactly my point. Those factors are more important that scalpers when it comes to affecting Death Stranding's sales.

So as long as Sony can make sure anti-Switch exclusives (in other words, games that come out on every platform except Switch) like Tales of Arise and Lost Judgement keep coming out every week they can turn things around.
The number of games that fit that description keep going down each year, which is one of the factors supporting Switch sales right now.

Wow, the Switch is a MONSTER performer :O

We have one in the house, but I feel the games are usually too expensive on it, so I buy almost nothing on Switch. Would definitely buy more stuff if prices were better.

NSW TOTAL: 8.632.866 (85.5%)
PS4 TOTAL: 1.243.816 (12.3%)
PS5 TOTAL: 217.743 (2.2%)

Top 10 Publishers

  1. Capcom - 2.812.804 (28%)
  2. Konami - 2.730.363 (27.2%)
  3. Microsoft - 740.071 (7.4%)

  10. Neos - 183.733 (1.8%)
  11. Aniplex - 165.481 (1.6%)
By the end of the year PS5 is likely not to move that much - Judgement is likely to exit with Demon Slayer taking it's place. without any high profile exclusives ost sales would remain on the PS4.
I anticipate the PS4 will finish with over 1.75 million software sold in the Top 50 since the launch of the PS5, the best selling game is likely going to be Tales of Arise with over 220K, followed by Resident Evil: Village with over 200K the rest of the Top 5 will be Nier: Replicant, Lost Judgement, Demon Slayer.

Switch meanwhile is going to top 10 million third party sales since the PS5 launched, a lot of sales are unaccounted for since we only track what appears in the Top 30 and there is a strong line-up of games and OLED launching in the next six weeks. Top selling games will end up being Momotaro, Rise, Minecraft, Age of Calamity - still unsure if SMT V, Power Pro Kun Pocket R or Olive Town have the best chance to take the 5th spot.

Third Party Result Switch / PS Ecosystem

Capcom: 2.553.611 (90.8%) / 259.193 (9.2%)
Bandai Namco: 403.259 (58%) / 291.439 (42%)
Marvelous: 559.542 (87.9%) / 77.240 (12.1%)
Koei Tecmo: 467.964 (79%) / 124.588 (21%)
Square Enix: 273.522 (52.2%) / 250.312 (47.8%)
Sega: 169.304 (49.7%) / 171.295 (50.3%)
Aniplex: 85.439 (51.6%) / 80.042 (48.4%)
Other:
437.001 (64.9%) / 236.507 (35.1%)

Since the launch of the PS5 the only publisher to achieve a better result within the Top 50 from the PS Ecosystem is Sega, while Konami, Microsoft, Neos achieved 100% of their sales on the Switch.
In the coming months we are going to see a lot of more third party games hit the systems as the busy fall upon us. Demon Slayer, Shin Megami Tensei V & Power Pro Kun Pocket R are the biggest third party games in my opinion, there is also a bunch of titles in the 50/100K range Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, SRW30, . Nothing can match Momotaro's result last year on it's own but outside of Momotaro the biggest third party games that launched were Age of Calamity, Sakuna & Fitness Boxing 2. The main difference between 2020 and 2021 Q4 will be the OLED launch and how that impacts hardware sales compared to last year - coupled with Pokemon Remakes & Mario Party will definitely add further momentum. With higher hardware sales new games will sell more and evergreens will get a greater boost. Currently there are several third party titles on the Switch that have an evergreen status.
