Why does it seem like people want Deathloop to fail?

Reading negative customer reviews on Amazon. Nobody is complaining about how Bethesda is owned by Microsoft. Almost like they don't know or care. What they complain is how, to them, it was overrated and oversold. Next gen pricing too high for what you get, bad AI, boring gameplay, confusing story. Bearing in mind that these are people who paid about 60 quid for the game on day one and really wanted to enjoy it. There are people who were more impressed by how unique it was, the trait that seemed to universally bowl over game reviewers, but overall the reception much more mixed.

This isn’t a next-gen priced game, though. It’s $60.

I play on PC so am not super familiar with PC5 game pricing tiers. It is still priced in the next gen tier structure, even if it is not a top tier title. Horizon Forbidden West is listed as £70 ($95) and Deathloop as £55 (reduced) ($75).

Fanboys are smarter than that. They won't say "ugh another terrible game from xbox" they'll say:

Seemed like a good game to start with then the problems started can't pick up certain items sound is completely screwed certain things that are supposed to happen don't typical Bethesda game buggy as hell

This has the desired effect of smearing the game, the developer, publisher AND all the other developers included in the Bethesda sale. Well executed, top fanboying. 8/10.*

*will update score if and when "wokeness" is established, in accordance with a fictional global conspiracy.

I think you should question whether it's possible that the game just didn't work for you before jumping to the conclusion that every reviewer pushed the score up because of skin colour.

Naaa I think I will just wait for someone to give me an example of how the games does things better than its own studios predecessor's instead of dodging questions.

Thanks though.

If I have to read people's minds to make a point, then is it even worth making? BGS games are notorious for being full of bugs, and you can't expect most people to know the difference between BGS, id, and Arkane.

Simply because I thought Sony were really ramming this game down our throats at every opportunity while the quality of the game always looked absolutely poor to me. The game looks dreadful and never hooked me and I was always puzzled why they dedicated so much time and resources to it when it was never going to be a commercial hit

So you won't accept that fanboys rate things poorly unless they say "I am a fanboy, and that is why I'm giving it 1 star."

Oh, didn't you know? You're not allowed to dislike a game anymore, unless you have some kind of ulterior motive.

If there is that’s sad. It is getting a lot of attention but I’m more inclined to say it’s because it’s the only stand out exclusive that PS has releasing this end of the year. It doesn’t really float my boat but each to their own.

It’s a really overrated game.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed my 10 or so hours with it but after I finished if I never wanted to touch it again.

The gameplay is great and it’s nice to learn routines and tactics for maps but after that it’s all just too much of the same. Gets boring and overly repetitive.

No idea how the game got the praise it did personally, it’s nothing spectacular.

From Metacrutic - Arcane
Top Rated - Dishonoured 91.

Also:
Dishonoured 2 88
DeathLoop 88
Prey 84

Seems like Deathloop reviews about as well as other Arcane games.

Always thought it was because they didn't have much in the 2021 release schedule from their first party studios.

So you can't accept that people might rate a game poorly just because of the game itself?

I totally accept that and I argued that it just might not click with people.

I have played highly rated games and accept that they're just not for me sometimes.

What I don't do is then say that the reason reason a game got good review scores is because it features black people, as some people here are saying.

I do however think that some fanboys have started to talk down Bethesda output and that will be part of the rich tapestry of user reviews.

Now, I don't believe this AT ALL, but from what I have seen, I think that some people feel that Arkane is a hardcore woke company that believes that having playable white characters in 2021 goes against diversity and is inherently racist, so they refuse to cast white people as hero characters. Something like that. I think some of that comes from wacky articles like this: https://www.wired.com/story/deathloop-radical-necessity-of-2-black-leads/

Of course, to believe that it's anti-white to cast black characters is FUCKING INSANE, but people are fucking insane today.
The same company that had two white protagonists few year before. What the hell is happening to people?

Anyway, as someone who loves Dishonored, I was disappointed with Deathloop until reading some reviews stating about it's similarities with Majora's Mask. Now I really want to play it.

So, ONE company among thousands favors black MC it triggers some people? Good, we need more of this. People are a bunch of thin skinned snowflakes.

I think people can very easily find something they dislike with a game the issue is that I find it harder and harder to find a reason to like games when compared to previous entries or even current titles in the same genre. Maybe I'm putting too much pressure on a score, something that's based on a personal opinion.

However I can easily see why people could think Dishonored is "perfect" but I am struggling hard to try and find reasons for Death Loop, it just feels so far gone from the reality of what the product is.
