Halo Infinite: 1.5 months from launch, where is the single player trailer?

Concern

Halo 5 had some pretty great marketing though.
It didn't really have anything to do with the actual story in the game, of course.

Actually you're right. They had a weird mystery with Agent Locke going iirc. Although I absolutely hated that campaign lol. Probably why I forgot about the marketing on it.

What's with all the concern?

We've had a couple of betas, a couple of story trailers, a gameplay demo and I'm sure we'll get either a launch trailer and another story trailer or both before December.

If they were delaying again we'd know by now.

If the lack of co-op bothers you delay yourself until it's ready.
Can we ban this fucking term? Not everyone who has a question about something your excited for is “concern trolling”. That phrase and people’s buy in to it has been the biggest fucking plague on this site.

I really hope it's not delayed. I don't care about co-op and after playing through the campaigns in MCC this year I want more!

I don't think we will get one at all. Why open it up to armchair critics on forums like this when you can just release the game to players and likely get a good reaction, instead of having internet attention seekers of all kinds zoom in to 1600% and say it looks bad no matter what?
If I were them I would release nothing.

Wut? I just said there seems to be a lot of concern, then stated reasons not to be concerned. Never mentioned "trolling". The OP is literally concerned about the campaign(or lack of). Fuck off.

I think we'll get a short (2-3 minute) story trailer sometime in November and that's it. I doubt we'll get any campaign vidocs or deep-dive videos as they seem to be solely focused on getting the game ready for launch. What I'm more perplexed about is why there hasn't been a trailer for the Halo TV show yet. Some cool still-images of the trailer leaked around E3 time but no trailer was released which is really weird to me.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Since when did delaying games become a thing? Lot of wanting delays instead of want games and that’s wrong, you don’t know if a game will be bad at launch btw I never liked the fascination with delays it’s not a good mindset, look up game launches they’re either incredibly accurate on original launch date or delayed, I can no longer respect game launches because of delays that’s where we are today. Games launching on time get no love. People say why don’t you delay, we don’t know if a game needs a delay. If they didn’t give us launch dates there wouldn’t be a question of delayed or launch. This is where COD does well they’re first in sales first in not delaying games they spend time on campaigns we forget how big COD games are.

Y'all sonsofbitches need to learn how to read a hint

Well, it better be game-related. I'm kinda over hearing about new peripherals and memefridgerators...unless they announce VR support through some partnership or their own VR device.

They've got all these first-person games in development but no VR support on console, that would add a ton to immersion if it were finally there. Maybe they show the Halo: Infinite campaign perhaps?

Dropping hints and you can't even see 'em dotw 😏 😏 :lollipop_smirking: 😼 😏

Well, apparently, 89% of gaming enthusiasts prefer "shadow drops" of game showcases only a short time before they can play it, so...

The final run of how MS markets Halo will be interesting to watch, because if they really do have a blitz approach where they only show SP a few weeks before launch and it's stunning and dominates coverage and slams pre-orders at the last minute, that may have ripples across the industry. (Not that every game company has the strength of the Halo brand to pull this off, plus Halo had its disasterous first showing so there is strategy to waiting to maximize a better showing, but still, timelines of exposure may continue to dwindle if this works.)

For better or worse (I don't prefer "shadow drops", but others have come to hate the hype cycle,) game companies are keeping their games a secret longer than usual.

And I think it may actually work for Halo Infinite. Visually, it may never be stunning (that second fly-over was more clean but still only so-so to look at,) but multiplayer is already bang-on and the game is on people's radar no matter what. So if they put out a Campaign Trailer just a little bit before release and show just a new way to play Halo, with a massive world featuring a lot of land variety (I'm still hopeful that the Slipspace Engine trailer areas are actually in the game in some form) and a new flow to the progression and just an overwhelming sense of this being new and fun and ready to play, there'll be less time to grouse about the graphics and more interest in just what this new story will add to Halo canon and how the new play systems will be interesting to get time with. If they do this right, 3 years of ups and downs could be forgotten with one compelling new look at the Campaign... if the Campaign actually is good...

Most are. I’m not in favor of censoring anyone but let’s call a spade a spade.

Halo has always had some of the best marketing campaigns or fan projects

The Believe campaign with commercials, the diorama (and behind the scenes that were set in the world) etc was the best marketing campaign for anything I have ever seen and, unfortunately, was much better than the story in the game. That's the only problem with having amazing marketing, it can outshine your game (and I say this as a Halo fan).

Or they want to show it off in the best possible way, closer to launch. Halo Single Player has not been shown off all that much throughout the years to avoid spoilers.

The game arrives Dec 8, that's literally zero time when you consider the launch process. And not showing off single-player is a Bungie thing, not 343i. The reaciton was horrible, and by now they should have calmed fears that its at least improved and they haven't done that. "Don't worry guys, multiplayer!!!"

We already got three trailers, it's clear that they dont want to show us much before release.

i smell a delay

They already said it's not happening ,but i would approve a delay if meant they would release the game with Forge and CO-OP.

If they had a single player campaign they were proud of, they would have shown it already. Come one people. Its clear they are sidelining the campaign to make Halo primarily MP focused. Its a sad day when halo gets the cod treatment.
There have been campaign trailers at E3 for 4 years, we saw campaign gameplay a full year before Multiplayer gameplay, they have had "Inside Infinite" posts every month that include campaign details, screenshots, and concept art.

Prior to this last E3, we knew nothing at all about the multiplayer which worried people because Halo 5 had a beta 10 months before it launched.

I think different games could live off different releases.
Like even on the Halo Infinite example, I feel like the F2P Multiplayer could easily live off of a longer hype up, with new map trailers, weapon trailers, game modes, costumization trailers etc. while the campaign would benefit from what I would call "soft shadowdrop" where you only hype the last week or 2 weeks before launch. Story centered games or Singleplayer games don't need a half a year or longer running campaign, because either that means they will show you what feels like half the game already which ruins the fun or they will show the same trailer till time ends and you get bored by the trailer and subconsciously transfer that to the game itself.

I'm still not quite sure how comfortable I am with the campaign potential, it does seem that it would have been more constructive to be showing people actually playing the improved campaign by now.
The announced release date of December seems more than a little suspect to me, nobody wants to release a major franchise in December, for the Christmas rush they'll get the major games out in October or sometimes November if they're really pushing it. December for a major single player franchise is just a strange choice as you've missed the important time.
I do unfortunately feel that the December release date is something of a "Well we promised we'd get the campaign out this year so we have to" release date to me. I know the multiplayer is a massive part of the franchise for a lot of people and I'd absolutely understand if that's what they felt was the priority for them.
Admittedly it's only ever been the campaign and co-op for me but of course I'm only one person and they'd be quite right to just ignore this one person and go where the money is, which I'd assume is going to be the free to play game with micro transaction support over the long term. There has been a lot of positivity about the multiplayer and although it's not my thing I am very happy to hear that.

They probably will still release something, and if they do it will most likely shock us. As for now, Staten has stated that the whole team is heads down and gone dark. So chances are, they will have a trailer some time in November to build hype for the Dec 8th release. Hype will be the strongest if they stay the course.

This could (and maybe should) be the new way of things for Microsoft. They aren’t really trying to sell Halo Infinite, they’re selling Gamepass - and it makes perfect sense to maximise excitement closer to launch to get people to sign up. Show something now and you lose the immediacy - because anyone who’s not a member, sees it now and is excited is outside the 1 month window to sign up for it.

And it gives the console warrior’s more time to work on deflating any excitement with their big dark clouds, even if it looks amazing. Go big close to launch and drive those Gamepass subscriptions.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Microsoft’s strategy being like this for all Gamepass releases. I’d definitely support it. As an existing subscriber, even If they release a campaign trailer why would I watch it when I can just play it myself on Gamepass, spoiler free?

Big tentpole games that only get an entry every 4-6 years don't usually get a ton of single player gameplay footage until a month or so before release. Think Rockstar Games - they do a several-minute features explainer/overview just before launch. I expect something like that for Infinite "here's how these caches work, here's how these secondary objectives work, here's how progression works, etc."

Remember the campaign is the only part of the game that is not free, you gonna lay down £60 on something you've seen very little of?

LIkely. Halo single player lovers be halo single player lovers. Very little chance a trailer makes the decision for them.

or you could just not buy it until there is co-op. i hate that shit so why should i need to wait? i'm never gonna use co-op so hope it comes out. co-op can wait. they can just patch it in after a few months. no big deal.
That's exactly what I am doing.
Playing the multiplayer day one and waiting on the coop for the campaign(plus a price drop)

How crazy is it that a new Halo is about to drop and there’s basically no buzz for it? I really hope there’s a big shakeup for the next entry. Halo needs to feel important again.

Without coop at launch it needs to be delayed.

Playing Halo campaign without my buddies via coop is a nono.
Delay your purchase.

Why delay the game everyone wants to play now, just for a feature that only matters for a few people?

Whether it launches now in Dec and added later or delayed, YOU still have to wait for it, so why spoil the fun for everyone?? Makes no sense whatsoever. The logic some people have, I can’t even fathom it.

Not a good look for sure. But I still think it will be one of the better campaigns of the year. This year has been absolutely dreadful when it comes to single player games with only a handful of great campaigns. Games like Halo are too big to fail. At the very least it will be mediocre.

There is literally nothing else I am looking forward to for the rest of the year. CoD looks like shit. BF is a fucking disaster. Far Cry 6 sucks even by ubisoft standards. There is no Watch Dogs, No AC, no Bioware or Respawn game. Most Third parties are MIA, Sony is MIA. Halo with its open world design at least has some potential.

That said, I am not expecting the visuals to change. You might get a more polished looking title but they are not changing character models, lighting engines, and foliage quality this late in the development cycle. You will get those same craig visuals and you will like it. This is the one time I wouldve actually agreed with Alex on something. Had they added some fancy ray traced reflections on suits and other shiny surfaces that make up most of the vehicles, enemy bases, weapons and armor, they game's visuals would pop out more. Realtime ray traced GI wouldve made the lighting less flat too. I figured with a year long delay they wouldve gone ahead and added ray tracing on at least the series x but the complete lack of campaign gameplay does not instill any kind of confidence.

P.S Elden Rings looks like shit, and yet no one seems to care. Yes, I am a graphics whore but what am I gonna do? skip Elden Rings? if the gameplay is good I will suck it up and play the damn game. I disliked Halo 5, but 4 was OK and looked stunning back then. 343 is NOT a bad studio.

That term made era a hellhole where no real criticism could be leveled at ANY first party game without people accusing each of concern trolling and getting everyone banned for warring. It has no place on a video game forum where we are literally supposed to discuss ANY concern we might have.

If Halo was a mp game like Far Cry, no one would be accusing anyone of concern trolling.

Is it really that crazy though? The franchise is now 20 years old. That's too old. The audience has grown old, and grown cold. I remember that Aaron Greenberg tweet where he famously leaked the numbers of all PS3 exclusives from Uncharted to gow to GT5 and said how Halo Reach beat them in one weekend. That franchise used to do 3 million sales in 3 days every 3 years from 2007 to 2010 till 2013. or 2012 or whenever Halo 4 launched with 3 million sales.

Then it crashed to just 1.4 million units which is still way higher than most exclusives but that shouldve been their red flag. They shouldve given the series a break or completely revamped it with a new protagonist, new setting, and maybe even a new perspective. make it third person. Do a perspective switch like GOW did. GoW Ascension also pretty much killed that franchise and had half of the sales of GOW3. They changed the setting, did a 180 on their angry and unlikable protagonist, took away his iconic weapons and gave him a new over the shoulder perspective completely revamping every single thing about the game.

With Halo, the art style is the same. The setting is the same. Same weapons. Same perspective. The only thing different is the open world aspect but they have done an atrocious job of showcasing that. I am still hopeful because Halo pretty much invented sandbox gameplay in console shooters back then so taking that open world could be very exciting.

You look at franchises from 20 years ago, and very few still have the same prestige. Sony isnt making Jak and Daxter anymore. Or Twisted Metal. MGS is a dead franchise. Medal of Honor was huge back then. Tekken and Dead or Alive were huge launch titles on the PS2. GTA and Resident Evil are pretty much the only franchise from 2001 that are still alive and kicking. Most were shelved for good reason. It's time to move on to something new. Just like Bungie did with Destiny.

How much single player footage have you watched and what was the most recent?

Like you said for me waiting would be best but if it's in rough shape they might delay it anyway so we all would be waiting.

Who cares? Is a trailer going to make you decide to buy the game when you weren't going to? The game comes out in a month and a half, why do you need to see a trailer for it? Just wait a month and a half and then play it.

Maybe I'm just old but gee I don't remember having a whinge if I didn't get to see a trailer for a game. Then again I was buying games when the only thing you could base your buying decisions off was what the cover and the back of the box looks like.

Congratulations!!!! Amazing how much wrong you can say in just 4 short paragraphs.

Plenty of games are as old if not older than that an still going strong. Metroid, Gran Turismo, Mario, Doom etc etc.......

Let me get this straight you think they should make a game not on a halo, not featuring master chief, and not an FPS, why not go all out and remove guns as well ? also we just had 6 year break.

They changed the art style twice, fans are loving that its going back to its roots plus its not really a halo game if, you know, its not on a Halo, see H5.

Ah wait I didn't see that last part, makes sense now. Complete and utter pish.

Eh. I wouldnt call any of those franchises going strong. When was the last time Metroid, GT, Mario and Doom won GOTY awards? And how in the world is Metroid still going strong? Metroid Dread just launched after a dreadful decade long break where Metroid was MIA. Wii U didnt get a single metroid game. How is that for strong?

I think they should not be making Halo anymore. Just like how ND isnt making Jak and Daxter anymore. How Insomniac isnt making Spyro the Dragon anymore. How Sucker Punch isnt making Sly Cooper anymore. How bungie isnt making Halo. Even Rockstar moved on to RDR2 and skipped an entire gen of GTA games, and delivered an experience the juvenile setting of GTA would never allow them to do. Imagine where the industry would be without RDR2, TLOU, Destiny, Assasins Creed, Mass Effect, Dark Souls, Titanfall, Spiderman, and Ghost of Tsushima. All those studios ditched their early 2000s franchises to make those games. Hell, even CoD only became huge because those guys got tired of making WW2 games and took the franchise to Modern Warfare.

Your bit about them changing the art style twice and fans wanting to go back to the series roots is exactly why 343 needs to move away from this franchise. I couldnt tell you when they changed the art style because it looks identical to anyone who is not a hardcore fan of the franchise. And hardcore fans will never accept any changes so why bother? All they want to do is play the same game they fell in love with in 2001 over and over again. Your ridiculous reaction to my post is a testament to that.

They have been making Halo games longer than Bungie ever did. Let them move on. Fans would riot at any kind of real change or innovation so thats out of the question. I know how toxic things got when they added sprint and ADS. If these people cant handle that, how would they handle changes like GoW added. I have always been a fan of MGS not because Kojima stuck to its root but because he continuously uprooted and replanted the damn thing from scratch. Entirely new settings from military bases to jungle to urban areas to finally a fully explorable open world. Perspective changes. You want to shoot in first person? go right ahead. You want to play this stealth game like Rainbow, here is a rocket launcher, an LMG and some helicopters. He kept the series fresh for over 2 decades by NOT going back to the series roots.
