Today, we are excited to announce that Microsoft has acquired Two Hat, a leading content moderation solution provider offering protection measures for online communities with a vision to build better experiences for everyone. Globally, growing amounts of harmful content shared online have increased the need for effective and proactive content moderation. For any online community to thrive, content moderation is a critical investment to ensure positive user experiences and maintain engagement over time. Microsoft and Two Hat share a vision for using advancements in moderation technology to nurture and protect diverse, global online communities.

At Microsoft, we believe that gaming should be inclusive and welcoming for everyone. For the past few years, Microsoft and Two Hat have worked together to implement proactive moderation technology into gaming and non-gaming experiences to detect and remove harmful content before it ever reaches members of our communities. For example, Two Hat’s technology has helped to make global communities in Xbox, Minecraft and MSN safer for users. This is thanks to its highly configurable technology, which allows the user to decide what they are comfortable with and what they aren’t. I’ve witnessed the impact they’ve had within Xbox, and we are thrilled that this acquisition will further accelerate our first-party content moderation solutions across gaming, within a broad range of Microsoft consumer services, and to build greater opportunity for our third-party partners and Two Hat’s existing clients’ use of these solutions. We also recognize the trust Two Hat has built with customers who depend on its services and those relationships will continue as part of the transition. Microsoft has a principled approach to privacy and customers can trust that we will protect the privacy and confidentiality of their data.

I see that for MS, they just don't use service of another company, they just have to buy it.

Wasn't there a story about child predators in Minecraft some years ago? Looks like MS has been working with this group for some time now, so hopefully that problem was addressed.
Of course, ultimately it's the parents' job to protect their children from sick fucks, but it's hard to keep your kids safe from everything in these online games/communities.

If this keeps creeps out of Minecraft and dick pics out of Uno, great. If this means this group is judge jury and executioner because they've decided content is offensive, this could become an issue. Last year they were offering bans for replication the General Lee in Forza. Once the media moved on the game was full of General Lees again and moderators look the other way but it's frustrating not knowing day to day what people are going to dislike.

I do like this:
This is thanks to its highly configurable technology, which allows the user to decide what they are comfortable with and what they aren’t.

Give people the option to tell the game what they are offended by and let them play a gimped version without affecting the people that aren't offended by their own shadow. The arachnophobia filter in Grounded is a great example of this. Just because little Timmy is afraid of spiders doesn't mean my game changes. He gets to look at a floating ball and I still get to see a spider including what his apendages are doing. I'd like to see systems put in place where players can choose the things that offend them in online dialogue as well. I can choose "I'm not offended by anything" and get to play online with people that are actually able to take what they serve. I hate playing with people who are stepping on eggshells just in case one of the players in the lobby has thin skin.

I see that for MS, they just don't use service of another company, they just have to buy it.
They have been working with them for a few years already. If the relationship is there and it's working why not bring them into the fold?

It kinda makes sense, if ms is going full mode in to the cloud gaming.

More customers, means more trouble makers. They want to get a head of the problem, before its too late.

Now, I just want them to work on es6 for now though.

Good. This should keep sketchy weeaboos in check when they get out of hand, after Microsoft acquires half of Japan.

I'm curious just how sensitive, discriminatory, and selective this technology is. Just illegal stuff? Parsed out keywords? Can it read patterns and determine intent?

Can I say I don't want any anti-islamic content? Can I say I don't want any Islamic content? Seems that if they can exclude harmful content it could work the other way and present ONLY 'harmful' content if you want it to.

These AI driven (I'm assuming most of it is AI) algorithms can easily be led astray if it accepts user input into preferences.

It's a good time to buy assets and use up any cash in hand.
Good advice. But I got shit memory.

I keep forgetting the stuff I have on my phone. Now way, I will remember these assets.

Sometimes, I keep forgetting the good games that I have on my steam.
