Kraken Vs ZLIB: 29% Smaller Game Sizes Losslessly, 297% Faster Decompression on PS5

Where did you see that?
Probably that digital foundry weekly video where they show like 1 FPS better on one PS5 game with firmware 2.0 installed. They also said firmware fixed stuttering issues on Control for XSX but that's not on the list of talking points.

I think you are fighting at best or trying to stir shit at worst over the wrong item. You are focusing on how fast the data decompressed with one algorithm vs another and I think you are trying to make it a the console war angle which feels quite odd.

That number you referenced compared zlib decompression vs kraken decompression, ask RAD Game Tools for their internal benchmarks. What matters for the consoles is the latency and throughout the two console makers were able to achieve and we have discussed over those two numbers ad nauseam. I do not think we need the n-th “console A cannot possibly be in any way not superior item by item to console B, so console B strengths must be overrated, faked, not usable, etc… so I can reconcile with the marketing that lead me to think console A was a monster that would have trounced console B and its non fixed clocks”.
The point this didn't give a big advantage. I have all consoles of this and previous generation and I don't see real world advantages. Just numbers on paper

A positive thing for sure, but the average seems to be around 1-3% in select games/RT scenarios. Firmware will of course continue to improve, contrary to the earlier 'sane' beliefs PS5 software isn't frozen in time.

But I thought tools were exclusive to another platform...

You see, an experienced engineer with a youtube degree, like some of the ones we see on this forum, will tell you that MS software solutions are better because software can be updated. Of course they ignore firmware updates for hardware, but who cares, right?
Pretty sure that's a thing you guys say people say but honestly no one is saying it.

Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. This was a big talking point during the lead up to the hardware reveals (and post them as well). I can't be arsed to go look for posts, so take my word if you want, or don't.
Yes let's keep talking about the odd fanboy comment from over a year ago. I find half of most threads are about what people said years ago.

It's not just the data compression that's at play here.
The SSD, and the file system of the PS5, drastically reduce the need for file redundancy.
On the PS4, creators have to create a lot of data redundancy to maintain continuous read on the HDD.

And add so much value to the expansion if needed.
Well that expansion already has added value since it has access to the free market. Kraken will only help even add more value to it since you can store more due to the compression. Expandable storage on the PS5 is in a pretty good place IMO.
Makes the WD 850 500gb an amazing deal at current $99. Black Friday for $79.99 and it’s an absolute steal if it hits that price.

Because it's not linear, you must be able to render those extra detailed graphics or make an extra work tweaking specifically for PS5. That's something only exclusives do.

They should at least analyze the data & figure out where they can squeeze more into the games & still come out with a game around the same size.

The most underrated talk last year. 90-95% of PS5 Misinformation would go away if folks would watch and understand Cerny's presentation.

Though I kinda disappointed they haven't done a deep dive into the PS5 Geometry Engine.
Some spewed misinformation on purpose.

I think a deep dive will come at a future GDC once more first party games take advantage of things that it can do, as well as the global SDK getting upgraded over time through their shared development network.

Everyone was shitting on this tech talk. I thought It was the best conference of all time.

Sad truth is, that majority of people are not smart and/or educated/wise enough to understand even 30% of that presentation, even when Cerny explains things really well.

I mean, not just this presentation, but on average people lack the information to really understand technical stuff on deeper level. And that is fine, but it is not fine when these less-technical people have the attitude of "if I dont understand it, it must be bullshit!" which is fairly common on any conversation about anything more complex than drinking a beer. :messenger_beaming:

People whom dont understand things and people whom dont understand, that they dont understand things are often the same ones. So then they either call everything bullshit, or dont understand that they took the information in wrong way and now are spreading some lies themselves when they didnt understand what they heard.

I watched this presentation live and thought that this is one of the best presentations I have seen about tech stuff, and basically everything were clear as sky because Cerny explained things so well.

And then all the bullshit started and some still do claim that he said or didnt said this and that, because they just cant understand it.

But it is nice to see that one by one Cernys clear claims have been proven:messenger_relieved:
