Going to sail past the Wii this year and wow at MK8 nearing 40m.

Wonder what the other games are at, Luigi’s Mansion was at 9. something million last time, surely breached 10m sales now.

Amazing numbers.

Skyward Sword nearing 4m copies sold, just wow. Pure profit.

I will double check my numbers but the pandemic bump is making yoy comparisons looking rough.

I need to check if Microsoft(Xbox) made more revenue than Nintendo again.

Switch knocking it out of the park as usual.

Would have been nice to get an update on Metroid Dread, I’ve been curious about the sales for that game. Maybe next quarter.

These sales numbers are ridiculously fucking impressive and I'm not even talking about the higher selling ones but the LOWER selling ones.

How in the FUCK did Ring Fit and Splatoon 2 both sell 13 million, HO-LEE SHIT!!

Splatoon is only on its second entry, the first game sold very well but easily more than doubling it is some serious growth.

Ring Fit came off as such a little side experimental title and look at those sales. Wow.

Going back to the higher sellers, it's completely nuts that Zelda outsold Mario at 24 million and MK8 surpassing MK Wii is insanity.

Nintendo deserves all these sales and more. This is how Nintendo should always be performing.

Let's hope Switch 2 continues this success.

Getting closer to 100M, and an average of 7.3 games sold per console. Interesting.

Will end up as the best selling console of all time.
It passed its sales peak so in the next years its yearly sales would keep decreasing every year and pretty likely in 2 or 3 years it will have its succesor in the market, which will replace its sales. I think it isn't realistic to expect Switch to outsell the over 155 millions of PS2 (and around the same with NDS).

Agreed, but I think it’ll get to 130m sales.
Yep, around 130M sounds more realistic.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
It will never come even close to the ps2.
Why?

It’s at nearly 93 million.

What exactly is going to make it slow down?

Completely depends on how they handle hardware revision. The DS family sold basically the same as the PS2 because they got away with selling the same system for 8 years with new licks of paint. The 3DS couldn't do half of that.

If they continue to sell the Switch until 2025 without making a "Switch 2" then it has a very good shot at beating the PS2, and frankly, that's not an unimaginable scenario. BOTW2 and Prime 4 are already coming to Switch, they can do an Odyssey 2 which is just more maps, Pokémon runs on toasters, etc.

Fair enough.

All I’m saying is it would have to be a pretty
sharp drop off suddenly whimper out at around 110-20 million. It’s best year (I think, happy to be corrected) was 28 million and certainly helped by Covid.

Are people really expecting sales to simply halve?

NBA Jam with actual budget, exclusive or timed exclusive would sell more than whatever they're doing on switch.

There is always a place in this world for NBA Jam, I'd even settle for the Lebron James edition. Of course, EA would probably take NBA Hangtime and just provide a roster update. I'll settle for whatever I can get. Talk about a wasted IP.

I believe the switch will sell at least 140kk if they release the switch 2 in the end of 2024.

Nintendo still didn't play with the price cut card.

The PS2 kept selling after the PS3 was launched. Nothing is going to "beat" that but really it is not apples to apples. It was selling old tech at a reduced cost as a way to access a bunch of cheap games. Nintendo could certainly try to do that, but the idea of cheap games is something I don't think they would allow unless their next system is not a hybrid.

As for the strategy of keeping the old system current for another 4 years.... Please don't. The games suffer. BOTW had 15FPS in the forest. The system was already behind their game designs when it launched. Well if it keeps selling, go ahead, but don't design the update now and keep it on the shelf for 4 years, come out with something that uses tech that is 2 years old, not 6.

As I remember the first 3 PS consoles sold around a third of their units after releasing their successor. Not sure if Nintendo ever achieved that with any home console or portable, at least in recent generations. I'd bet that like MS they transition faster to the new generation discontinuing a console faster once its successor gets released when compared to PS.

All game consoles have a sales curve: starts selling low during the first year or so and their yearly sales keep growing until reaching a peak around its 3rd (aprox, depends on the console/portable) year. And then, after that peak the yearly sales keep decreasing year after year, until when their sales are pretty low and their successor gets released. Not too far (exclusing exception like the PS consoles) after the successor release they get discontinued.

Depending on each console, that yearly sales curve get higher o smaller, wider or thinner, but they all make that curve. People (including Nintendo's estimation) originally thought Switch was going to start to decrease after its peak during the last year. but covid happened (combined with their competition being in a generational transitioin year -which means low sales for them- and at the same time getting fucked by chips shortage), so it got a big push so its peak year was last year instead of the previous one. Now after the peak is decreasing, and every year is supposed to keep decreasing because it's basically what always happens in consoles where they pass their peak year. It isn't realistic to expect it to have huge sales every year forever.

And on top of that now the chips shortage also starts to impact Switch too. They said that will have to decrease their estimated production (which alread considered a YoY decrease) in 20% only due to this.

Remember a successful Nintendo is a lazy Nintendo. If they keep winning they just chill. On the back foot they bought out the Wii and the Switch.

VC in the Wii. Switch gets err a few Rom

if Nintendo had the hustle of the DS and Wii era and the switch. They would easily get 150 mill in sales

but still good numbers. Just don’t rest on your laurels Nintendo you sexy bastards

Pretty confident; using a fixed USD:JPY conversion rate of 1:100 which is actually probably very helpful for Sony and Nintendo at the moment. I need to make sure that I start adding definitions to my excel sheet now.

Need to add more of the nintendo metrics, I would like to do hw vs sw rev splits per platform holder.

Thanks.

It will be interesting to see how it develops. I personally think Nintendo will milk the system for all its worth. I don’t expect to see any hint of an actual upgrade until 2022/23. And even then, it won’t be an out and out Switch 2 - rather an incremental performance boost.

Nintendo are so deeply conservative, they won’t do anything even slightly dramatic.

Splatoon 3 hype seems a little low, so hopefully it manages to keep the momentum rolling for the series. I guess they'll ramp up the marketing next year.

Nintendo are just on a whole different stratosphere when it comes to sales. Those software numbers off their trolleys.

This is almost legendary. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has not only become the best selling Mario Kart, but is edging out Super Mario Bros. on NES to becoming the best selling Mario-game period. SMB is officially at 40.23 million. MK8D is less than 2 million away from that.

Sure, they'll milk it as much as possible. It will continue having great sales for some years and I don't think they will release its succesor until 2023 or 2024. And I think Switch will continue alive for a year or two after that.

I have to think Mario Golf underperformed. I was going to get it, but watching trailers decided against it.

I do want to know how Metroid sells.

Damn was hoping for a Luigi's mansion 3 update for confirmation of 10m, this means it didn't sell one million in half a year. Oh well have to wait another 3 months.

Launch aligned the NSW is tracking ahead of the PS4 by 10.57m and Wii by 5.28m, however it can't keep pace with the Juggernaut NDS and has fallen 14.88m units behind. NSW still has a shot of beating life time NDS numbers if it has a stronger tail which is possible.

And that's not even with combining it with the Wii U sales which we honestly could probably do.

Top 15 Best selling Consoles ever, NSW is 7th and should Leapfrog to 5th by next quarter. It just needs a 9.63m holiday Quarter to displace PS1.
