LTTP: Just played and finished TLOU2

If you dont like the game you have poor taste and should stick to video gamey ass video games and MP focused shoot em up fests.

Game is an objective masterpiece
I feel more and more like my hobby was hijacked by a bunch of college activist weirdos (devs) and buyers that don’t even like video games for what they are.

Why else call a shitty wannabe movie a gaming masterpiece? “Gamey ass video games”. Fucking unreal.

I wish gaming was taboo again to be quite honest and not mainstream.

this "shitty wannable movie" have amazing gameplay. You might've missed that part.
It's a story focused game. It's not Dark Souls when it comes to gameplay but it flows well and combat is fantastic

Masterpiece of a game. Will be remembered as one of the best games ever in generations to come.

I don't see how people can not like it, but that's ok and a good thing, everybody is entitled to their own opinion and tastes are thankfully different.

I recently tried this because of ps now and yeah story wise its not great, the gameplay, atmosphere and graphics are top notch though, i played 10 hours of it before i stopped, i didn't feel it was fun enough to keep going plus i had already watched most of the game on youtube anyways.

I loved it.
But I have my complaints.

1st the story could of been totally different. They went for shock factor and it could of been a revenge story for Ellie and Joel for Tommy dying etc or something completely different. It was justified though cause like him or not, Joel was a ass for killing the dr’s who thought they had a cure for the virus.

2. One of my biggest issues was there was not enough “Uncharted” action/dramatic sequences like the first game. The island battle and escapre was pretty epic though.

3. Not enough memorable NPC‘s and there moments like Henry and his little brother, the pedo or Bill.

4. Also another big issues was there wasn’t enough clicker moments, hordes or bosses like the first game.

5. I believe if Abbey had like 15% less mass she would of been alot more realistic. Especially how she looks like before the time jump would of been fine.

I still liked the game alot, it was awesome and loved going to California and how long the game was.

Playing such a long game and ended up hating it? Sucks to be you.

I loved it. Not as much as the first, but one of the best games of the gen easily.

lol at people saying "discussion ended 2-3 months from launch". Look at this thread more than a year later.

Dont be this dumb

Isn't the doctor a bit of an ass too for performing lethal surgery without informed consent from the patient?

That would fall under murder(Jerry knows the result will be death for Elly) in modern western societies.

It was the best game I ever played that I didn't like. Phenomenal mood/setting, graphics and gameplay. Nonsensical and pretentious plot and storyline to resolve loose ends that imo should have remained unresolved. I know I'm in the minority and that's ok. I can see why people loved it. I just didn't.

People keep having debates about who was right and wrong but in reality almost everybody in this game is various shades of grey and have very human and understandable motivations. In these polarized times people really have issues realizing that all sides have a point. It isn't as simple as Joel or Abby being right or wrong.

Came here to reply about something, but your avatar made my brain delete all cookies so I don't know what I'm doing here right now. :lollipop_crying:

How the fuck did we get to the point where games were not about being games first? Why are these people even making games?
Open arena combat shooter with a lot of moves and good ai?
oh yeah it's like every 3rd person shooter. cmon

It's anything buy another bland game

Yeah man, mashing square for insta kills is GREAT combat. Such masterpiece.

Whatever, I know i’m just shouting into the void here. I’m not mad at you, i’m just sick of what Sony studios have become.

I love Souls games. These are the best games out there. unmatched in their gameplay.
But I still like this. I realize it's not as versatile but it's not just mashing square. The combat can be as deep as you make it .

I know you are not mad. It's fine really. You can have your opinion and the right to express it

I hope Naughy Dog makes a space or alien game. I could see them making a game where you have to survive in a horrific brutal alien invasion like the tom cruise war of the worlds.

Story driven games have been mainstream since the late 90s when consoles were powerful enough to run them so I don't get why they are all of a sudden such a crime against the sanctity of gaming.

Do you really think there are a lot of technical superior games out there than The Last of Us Part II that doesn't involve button mashing?

In most games today you're just aiming and shooting basically no melee combat whatsoever.

This is neither here nor there but I hate Souls as well.. it’s too slow and I don’t like the locking into animations thing. I dig fast combo based action games like Bayonetta. Plus on top of that they always have crap performance except on PC, i mean on ps3 the fps was just not acceptable.

Nioh was the one where I could stand to complete it, but I also don’t like the rpg build aspect of these games. I have Sekiro on ps5 to play as like a last chance for the formula, at some point i’ll get round to it.

I could see why people who like Souls might like tlou.

"Video gamey ass video games,"

What a preposterous concept. Someone playing a game to play a game, not to hear a sermon or watch a movie.

I enjoy a good narrative experience and storytelling through gameplay as much as the next guy, but you ex-high school band member, pseudo-intellectual types are actively ruining the industry by giving positive feedback to products that value actors and scripts more than gameplay loops and replayability.

I can't remember late 90s action adventures with so much time for story/cinematic/walking+talking stuff like nowadays cinematics.

Mr. Druckmann took a gamble. It paid off with critics and a sizable chunk of the fans. I think he got his Schindlers List. Another sizable chunk of the fans hated being treated like this. Similar thing happened with mass effect 3 which denied the player the triumphant ending of mass effect 1-2. TLOU2 will leave you feeling like s**t. TLOU1 leaves you feeling like you saved your daughter from the people wanting to hurt her. So you win some, you lose some. That being said, something was legitimately lost when they messed with the perfect pacing of Uncharted 1-3 in u4. The Rollercoaster ride was gone.

Congratulations, now you can be considered a hater, problematic and a homophobic for expressing a dislike on this game.

If you don't like or understand Abby and enjoyed mindlessly killing her friends as Ellie you were too dumb to get the message of the game.
Don't worry, you end up killing Abby's friends as Abby herself as her campaign goes on. The pacing was awful in this game. Don't think I've seen anything like it.

Bad memory?

I mean, MGS alone would be a perfect example.

Soul Reaver, Syphon Filter, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis etc.

I'd argue that MGS is the opposite of something like TLOU2. On first glance, the amount of storyline is the same (or greater) than Druckman's magnum opus, but the differentiation comes from what's in between the slices of narrative. Everything in modern narrative driven games feels like an obstacle between you and the next scene. Almost like a pest buzzing around your ears. In MGS, you were never walking through a city block. You were never having conversations with NPCs during gameplay. There was no BLENDING of the two disparate styles to integrate gameplay and story. TLOU2 wants cohesion, desperately. MGS gave no fucks. When you were watching a scene, plant your ass down, it's a movie. When you were playing, it was the most "video gamey ass video game," there was.

Not sure what that annoying "journalist" guy has to do with my post :) Personally I don't like the direction ND went after Amy was ousted. I was a diehard ND fan - the type that buys everything from them in all mediums - and they lost me after u4. Just trying to be positive here and state the fact - lots of critics praise the game. I think Mr. Druckmann was aiming for a "masterpiece" type of game and judging from the critics he got it. Amy would have been more humble in this situation - her aim would have been to maximize the positive experience of the player from the gaming session. After Amy's games, you would feel like "heck yeah!"... After the new ND games you feel like you need another game to relax from the ND game.

It sounds almost like games evolved since then....

I liked the gameplay, but story wise it goes downhill faster than the walking dead show.

To me its all just meaningless when you have these big odds in the first game (vaccine, cure, a chance to go back to where the world was before the apocalypse event) and now in the second it's just a bunch of stupid characters doing stupid shit in a world that is already fucked, the infected don't matter anymore, the state of the world doesn't matter anymore, just the feelings of unlikeable kids. It was pretty blergh. Come to think of it, it really goes the way of the walking dead.

The game is beautiful though and the gameplay is fun so it's worth a playthrough at least, can't knock that.

Yep that's my main issue with this game. Felt like they were obligated to put in a gameplay sequence in every slice of story narrative. The only interesting one was the Dinosaur/Astronaut sequence.

The rest felt like a chore.

Cmon... comparing to walking dead ?! Really ?
Of course nobody cares about state of the world. It's been going for well over 30 years. Why would they care and hope to change anything?
The game is about their personal stories and problems.
We finally get a game with ambitious unique take on story, writing and people bash it. That's why we can't have nice things.

Maybe I am he odd one because I also Love Death Stranding even more.

Didn't sound like it previously....

I do find it rather lackluster that a game that, while incredible in a lot of areas, is incredibly stale in gameplay innovation, was able to snag so much recognition away from titles and developers who put in the work for carrying forward the actual GAME part of videogames.

I mean, like what you like, champion for your cause, but you won't quote-gacha me. My favorite games are OoT, FFVII, RE4, and MGS4, so obviously I value a healthy blend, but I maintain that a lot of the praise this title caught was by pedigree alone.

I love Death Stranding and I loved TLOU1. The characters in TLOU2 just don't resonate with me at all nor do I care about their motives or feelings. They also take some incredibly stupid decisions in order for the game to go where the writers wanted it to go, that sometimes I would be left scratching my head and wondering how do these people function as humans.
