Sony VP fired after appearing in pedophile sting video

Thanks for the clarification. I thought you were suggesting that Sony already knew about his behavior at home and didn't do anything about it until it became public. That's something people like MrFunSocks MrFunSocks was suggesting and I thought you were doing the same.

Sorry about the misunderstanding.
There is no misunderstanding.

Streetsofbeige and former partner-in-crime Bryank75 has been suggesting Sony is as responsible as Activision for their employees actions. And been using Strawman101 with Honors level type of arguments to support it.

Then goes “How are some people defending this?” Like anyone is defending a pedo. And not attacking their illogical chewbacca prosecution of Playstation as a whole.

Son of a bitch I had this post typed out and put it in the wrong thread and now I can't get it back cuz I edited it and apparently didn't copy paste it right. Don't got time to type it all out again so I'll just keep it short:

Are we positive he will even face legal action/criminal charges over it? I remember the Chris Hansen show claiming the guys would get jail time but apparently it wasn't necessarily true and most were just put on a watch list or given a slap on the wrist? Obviously I'm no lawyer so I dunno what the end result could be but I'm wondering if this guy could possibly get off with a warning or just put on a watch list or something? I dunno how the rules of entrapment work or if they apply in any way, or the fact this was done by a third party would change things.

Does anyone know for sure if this guy will likely get charged with anything serious or not?

I've wondered that as well. I guess it all depends on if the local DA starts to look at things and verify this information. You'd think intent would be enough to do something, plus they might find other contacts that lead to real victims if they start looking closer at this Grindr profile.

It probably depends on local laws. Amateur stings like this don't always capture evidence in a way that can be used to prosecute someone. A lot of law enforcement agencies can't or won't work with amateur groups because they use tactics that could be considered entrapment by police officers. It was obvious that Sony had to fire this guy because of how he made the company look in that video but whether the guy who caught him out has anything that could be used to actually prosecute him hasn't been revealed yet.

Sony wouldn’t have flatly fired him if it wasn’t true. They would have said something like “ he is on leave while we investigate “. Blah blah..
more than likely he broke down and confessed.
They can fire him for anything like perceived damage to the brand. Which this fits the bill. People get fired all the time for much less.

Honestly not sure where people get these ideas. It's US based so they can fire him for next to nothing.

Yes they would have. The negative image of him being in that video at all would be enough for most companies to fire him. Corporations don't put people on administrative leave for activities that harm the image of the company. They fire them.

He won't get jail time. Guys like him have money for big lawyers.

All he will get is sex offender registration.

True. Most states (all?) allow firing at-will so long as the firing isn't the result of the persons religion, race or something like that.

Yep - Most companies today follow an "at will" policy with respect to employment (depending on the state of employment). It's given to the employee as soon as they accept an offer and essentially means that the company can elect to terminate the employee "at will". Same with a person's acceptance in that they can leave the company "at will" as well.

Wow. Sickest scumbag I’ve seen in a while. This pedophile was actually wearing a PS5 t-shirt and using his position/prestige at Sony to lure in his prey…

Is this likely to reduce or even cripple Playstation sales? This is an unprecedented case, but how might this affect the gaming industry as a whole?

It isn't going to affect anything as far as Sony or the gaming industry at all. The dude was fired. It is over.

We both know that it isn’t true. A pedophile was caught red handed here. Image is certainly tarnished, parents aren’t going to be as willing to support Sony for starters

Of course it is true. Some parents *might* be concerned on the principle if Sony kept this guy employed and it made national news at some point, but they swiftly canned him as they should. Do you really think we are going to see PS5 on the shelves, unsought, because of this? The only people even talking about it are on select gaming forums like this one. I just searched CNN and nothing mentioned at all. This isn't even a story any longer because Sony fired him quickly.

NY Post, Newsweek and Yahoo Finance posted it.

Parents don’t read huh, great logic. This is a massive scandal

It’s really not. Fired or not, does that negate what happened? I think this has a ripple effect to some degree, yes. There will probably be much news ahead, this a the former Vice President of Sony that got caught trying to have sex with a 15 year old boy…

okay kid, firstly - the majority of the population isn't forum going super nerds.

Nobody outside of the small gaming nerd base knows about this story - it wasn't covered on the actual news on TV nobody knows.

wake up, get out of your bubble.

They posted that he was fired for what he did. As far as they are concerned the story died right there.
No doubt the story ended after he got fired.

But just because CNN didnt post anything about him doesn't mean the story was only mentioned on game sites and forums. There's even a Fox station that did an article if you google it. Fox 17 in Nashville.

It factually negates Sony's involvement with this guy.

Story died right there eh? riiiiiight

Show me the follow up reporting then. Show me all the editorial columns trashing Sony for.......whatever. You are saying this is a "massive scandal" and yet CNN apparently doesn't even know who this guy is:

Right..I wasn't trying to say that only gaming sites and forums "mentioned" him. I said this is the only places this is being discussed, as in actively. I agree with you that non-gaming outlets covered this when it happened. This very thread came from the news being reported on CNET that he was fired.

“B..b-but CNN doesn’t have an article on it!!!”

-Topher

Yeah, CNN has a tendency to cover "massive scandals".

As does....

Fox News
CBS News
NBC News
ABC News
BBC

As you see from these links, the search results for each of those news outlets show nothing.

So there you go. You can continue to be ignorant if you want. Right now you contribution here is limited to: "B..b-but". If you want to make claims that this is indeed a "massive scandal" then I suggest stopping with the shit-posting and actually show how this news to going to reach parents and affect PS5 sales. Frankly, right now, you are just talking out of your ass.

Yeah... the ex-Vice President of Sony sending sexual texts to and trying to sleep with a fifteen year old boy just aint massive enough of a scandal, is it now, Topher?

The guy is a horrible person and I certainly hope he is punished. As I said from the beginning, if getting fired from Sony is the worst thing that happens to him then he is getting off easy.

Beyond that, there isn't much else to say. You wanting this to be a "massive scandal" does not make it one. Sorry to disappoint you.

Put words in people's mouths much? I never wanted this to be a massive scandal. Yet it is. Do you understand what a scandal is? Or should I hold your hand there as well?

Then why isn't this "massive scandal" being covered by any of the major news outlets? Tell me that.

You've seen the footage. The texts, the buildup leading up to the actual meet, and then him being exposed. Do you deny that this happened? Do you need an article to tell you what footage has already?

StretsofBeige apparently found one. Are your reports going to change anything already made evident via the documented texts, film?

The only scandal here is on a personal level for this creep. Like I said, if this is the worst that happens then he got off easy. Sony did the right thing by firing him within 24 hours. Nothing more to be said.

That's why MS has gone down in flames after it was revealed that Bill Gates was friends with Jeffrey Epstein...oh wait lol.
Good point. But it still stands, this will affect the company on some level. Business will continue but people are not going to forget
So you can't answer the question then. Thought so. Acknowledging what happened and proclaiming this as a "massive scandal" are two entirely different things. The reports on this have been limited to the fact that the guy was fired for what he did. That's all. The news coverage began and ended right there. You are engaging in pure hyperbole here.
Lol you can't be serious. Once again, do you understand what 'scandal' means? It is a fact, that this is a massive scandal. By definition. Why downplay it? The man lost his job, Sony lost a prominent executive? Why? Because their executive preyed on a fifteen year old boy. You'll never be able to change that

I'm having trouble understanding where you two disagree. He isn't denying that this is a scandal for the creep. He just seems to reject the notion that this will affect Sony beyond having to replace him I think. I don't understand why you think he's wrong on that. If Sony kept him on board despite getting busted that could definitely make Sony look bad considering how many of their customers are kids, but it seems Sony terminated him right away. And if it became a pattern among higher ups that could raise questions too of course.

The only way I can see this being a huge scandal for the company is if Sony are protecting some of these people. I've seen some suggest that here but I don't see any evidence pointing to that.

This was just some sick exec doing this stuff at home without Sony knowing about it. That's really what this seems like to me.

Get your facts straight. There was no actual 15 year old boy involved here. This was a sting. The 15 year old boy was fictional. And you know damn well you never heard of this executive before any of this so calling him a "prominent" is just more hyperbole.

He came into this thread proclaiming Sony would lose PS5 sales because parents wouldn't support Sony now and it went downhill from there.

You are right. Sony would look extremely bad if they kept this guy on board. Thankfully they didn't do that.

Nah that's just dumb. I could see that happening if the entire was behind a pedophile cult. But that simply isn't the case here.

Ah, so you want to go to semantics and fine details now, after you failed repeatedly to comprehend what a scandal is and still continue to struggle with that? This is still a major scandal, and this major scandal involves one party, and that’s the man who was caught. That we know of, Sony has done nothing wrong. You’re still wrong, unfortunately for you. Keep crying hyperbole though. I guess Vice Presidents are no longer prominent members in a company…

What part of "The only scandal here is on a personal level for this creep" did you not understand? I disagree that this rises to the level of a "major scandal" or that this will have any impact on Sony or PS sales, as you suggest. If you want an example of a major scandal then I suggest you read up on Jerry Sandusky and Penn State University.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were not such a console warrior that you'd excuse underage sex with the dictionary definition defense.

Banned for being a console warrior. LOL.
Wait you think I was defending Sony here? lol

I got banned for "console warring" for bringing up the Naughty Dog harassment claims and saying that Sony swept them under the rug after internally investigating themselves. That was wrong of me, not the topic for it I guess.

Also if you had've actually read my post and the context, I was trying to stop the dogpiling that was happening on that other poster who was simply correcting people on terms. Like it or not, paedophile has a definition, and what this VP was doing does not fit that definition. He is technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. I also said that in this context it doesn't really make any difference because pre-pubescent or not, it's sick when the kid is 15 and underage. Guess you missed that bit though, right?

Words have meanings, and legal terms especially have meanings. If you use them incorrectly there can be big consequences. What's so wrong about wanting people to use the right terms?

Maybe I gave you too much benefit of the doubt in assuming you could understand context and conversation.
