This is only the global version. However, the China-approved store apparently doesn't have the bigger games. So users who want to continue with the status quo may need to find a workaround.

I have to ask.. do Chinese gamers know about VPN?

or does that not work either ? lol.

I mean yeah it sucks. but China isn't the first country to do so and wont be the last. If I am not mistaken all middle east ( specially the gulf area ) have controlled internet.

Like how you can't find GTA in Saudi Arabia Steam or Epic. or how is all online porn block in these countries.

People in these regions already got used to it.

People know, but it's not 100% safe as the Chinese government is cracking down more on those things. As far as I know those VPN ads you see are somewhat misleading and your ISP can still see what you access.

Wait does this mean they also cut off Chinese VPN users for steam or is that still business as usual?

Soon, Epic Games Store will become the official game store of China after all other stores are banned. Congrats, Tim Sweeney!
EGS also operates in China within the same grey area as Steam did. I think they'll be banned as well to pave the way for clients like Tencent's own WeGame X.
Soon we'll have WeGame X shills on GAF accusing us for sinophobia for not using it and accepting all the free games.

Yeah, man, you sure about that? Censorship is ain't something I would cheer for (in most cases), but "destroying everything"? It's #1 economy in the world.
Then look at Evergrande, Kaisa, Fantasia, Modern Land and Classe-B - just because they say they are "No1 Economy" doesnt mean they are.

Millions of people are about to lose their homes now.

I don’t understand how in basically 2022 we still have governments like the CCP exist.
I mean still exist huge communities and relevant religions who believe woman should be submit to men without the same rights, what's the surprise.

And the worst thing? Try to say that to chinese people.
What is it supposed to mean? Chinese government is one of the worst evil of the human society, whatever chinese people could think, even if they would give to them a welfare government.

China never had a democratic regime. It was always emperors, warlords and communist dictators.
They have no point of reference to a free lifestyle.
Also, in the last 20 years, 800 million Chinese got out of extreme poverty. So as far as they can see, it was the CCP that made their life's much better.
They never realized that it was the CCP that made China a miserable country to live in, for so many decades before. That it was the CCP that cause famines and kept the people in poverty for so long.
And also consider that Han Chinese don't suffer the same fate as Uyghurs, Tibetans and other ethic groups that are being treated very badly.
Most Chinese probably don't even know about the concentration camps and other crimes against humanity that the Chinese Communist Party did, and is still doing.

Isolation always leads to demise. Good luck with Mao ZeDong-like China, Xi.

They have a good reference point. 2 of them I guess. Opium wars and rape of nanjing. Oh, and that small thing called Great Wall of China was built for a reason.

Censorship isn't about isolation, it's about controlling the masses/keeping the system stable. It is US government who tries to isolate China, not CCP.

China building new roads and buys infrastructure all over the world to prevent its isolation. Does it look like an isolationist project:

Ok let me die then. How am I supposed to get anything if I am to avoid China made

A good start is to make an effort to purchase products made in Taiwan. You likely won't be able to avoid everything unless you are very careful and very purposeful, but at least it's some money that goes to fuel the economy of a democratic country and not that of a despicable dictatorship. Every little bit helps.

Wonder what's that going to mean for chinese games. Will they no longer receive updates? No new games? There's a few I like.
I doubt it, probably nothing will be changed for the outside world releases. China wants to promote/sell their games while controlling the message inside the country.

Imagine coming to a thread about China removing even more freedoms for its citizens and trying so hard to glorify it. 😂

How much does trolling on the internet for the CCP pay nowadays, besides the social credit boost?
Imagine being such a boring person as you are.

And having a reading problems:

Damn, must be rough for you.

Hell, Final Fantasy XIV's recent rules pretty much give the GM's discretionary power to suspend players that simply hurt other players' feelings, and I can guarantee the game's thriving.

Unfortunately for you, I'm not in your guild in FF, you can't ban me for harming your feelings ;_;

As someone in China, yes they do more than the regular person.

But this week due to outbreaks of Covid by coincidence some VPN users (A group of myself and another China based GAF member, as my source) have had their VPN service blocked.

How exactly does blocking your VPN connect with the covid outbreaks? 🤔
