Splitgate PlayStation version ‘is more popular’ after Halo Infinite release, dev claims

Might have something to do with challenging my ability to read. The use of direct quotes in this case is misleading at best as the way it's written it's stating Splitgate is more popular than Halo.
The article itself is fine, it's the title that's the issue.
It’s not stating that at all though. If thats how you’re reading that title, you’ve failed to read it correctly.

I read it just fine, your grasp of how quotations are supposed to be used is a problem though.

The quotations are irrelevant, not sure why you’re so hung up on them. They don’t change the sentence.

You said that this reads as “Splitgate is more popular than Halo”. That’s completely and undeniably an incorrect interpretation.

Probably more like overwatch or paladins. Characters with different move sets or at least faster and more interesting gameplay like Titanfall.
Thats not an arena shooter. In an arena shooter everyone starts with the same weapon, hence there are no loadouts in Halo Infinite unlike Call of Duty.

You mean it looks more interesting

I think the movement is great in infinite, though not as good as 5 due to no default thrusters, but I hate when people use what are essentially glitches to make a point like this. This “ledge slide” that he’s doing is a glitch, much like crab running and wall bouncing in Gears, and the side strafe bunny hopping in Titanfall 2. It’s an exploit of a glitch in the engine and should not be used to say that the game itself is “insane” or whatever else you want to say.

These "glitches" are part of the engine, they mostly happen due to how physics and movement are programmed into the game. Like how rocket jumping is used by Quake players.

These things require actual skill to pull off. Its called "Emergent Gameplay". Another reason why Halo should never switch to Unreal Engine.

A new day and fresh eyes I finally see how you are reading it. However it doesn't invalidate how I'm reading it either.

They’re still glitches. They’re not intended behaviour.

Saying that they are “emergent gameplay” is like saying that glitching under the map in PUBG is legit and “emergent gameplay” lol.

If your problem is ONLY with the fake quote then sure, that’s fine. If you still believe that it can legitimately be read as “Splitgate is more popular than Halo” then you’re still wrong and never will be right.

How are they same? Things like glitching under a map are always banned in competitive tournaments and are usually patched. But things like Curve Sliding is literally how the player was designed to move. Its like Sword Skating in Destiny.

These are part of the gameplay and engine physics. Just because you can't pull them off with a button press does not mean they are glitches. You need to learn how to use them.

This is a bug that was fixed.

It doesn’t matter what is and isn’t banned in competitive tournaments. This “curb sliding” is a glitch. You’re not supposed to slide and jump faster off small things. It’s not intended behaviour, it’s a glitch.

I guess trolls do agree with each other.

I wouldn't consider Halo a great example of doing it right. It feels too dated. Even if you want all the same loadouts there's a lot of advancements that have taken place over the years. Faster movement, more verticality, more items/pickups, some environmental destruction, etc. When it just feels like old Halo or old UT, you're doing it wrong imo.

What would a modern day arena shooter look like? Splatoon maybe?
well..... you need not look further than Halo Infinite

It IS a modern Arena shooter. The only arena shooter that actually feels new and evolved in mechanics and design

Splitgate just feels lika a game from 2007. It feels like Halo 3 - in every single way, inlcluding in age

I guess I meant "What does a modern day arena shooter look like that really makes a dent in terms of impact?"

Halo Infinite will be around for a while but it doesn't seem to be capturing players like the franchise did back in 2003.

Seems like to have a shot at disrupting the multiplayer hierarchy at the top, you really need to be a survival game or a BR at this point. I don't see an arena shooter becoming the next big thing unless the formula really advances and I don't know what that looks like.

Well if anything can dent in the Arena shooter market it is still Infinite imo. Time will tell what impact it has with upcoming content (BR mode?)

Just goes to show how hungry PlayStation owners are for this kind of shooter. I imagine a lot of people went out and bought series S or series X for halo.
I'd imagine they didn't. There's not a lot of people going out buying ps5's, xboxs or pcs. Prices too high on the second hand market and they all can't manufacture enough.

There's a reason these big games still come to last gen.

ummm... no. It does not feel dated.

you should play the game

Halo definately does not feel dated. In fact it feels like the most modern shooter I have played online - it does a lot of things no other shooter does just with the sandbox, weapons and interactions between everything

Since I haven't played halo infinite, I cant say anything about it, but splitgate has been pretty fun.
