[I collect VHS tapes]

I think I've exhausted movies to watch. I'm sure there are some flicks that I've missed, but I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Showtime, Shudder, Tubi (along with the other free streaming services), Apple TV, and I'm sure some others I'm forgetting and I can't find anything I'm interested in.

I've been using Letterboxd for a while now and it allows you to pretty efficientially and systematically track down stuff that interests you. I think a downside of this is that you can burn through shitload of excellent films quickly.

I love cinema, even more than I love video games, so I've always consistently watched lots of movies, but the pandemic has really accelerated this.

I'm not really sure what do. I might subscribe to Criterion streaming as I'm sure they have a shit load of movies I haven't even heard of that are great. A friend has it and it seems like they have a great selection.

Anyone else dealing with something similar?

It's kinda depressing ngl, especially because there hasn't been all that many great movies coming out during the pandemic due to a variety of reasons.

You should watch more foreign stuff. Try Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy.

Edit: also watch this. Incredible film. Seeing as you're into horror, you'll probably dig it.

I read before bedtime to unwind. I actually just started the witcher series of books. I picked up The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, will grab the rest of them if I end up liking the first 2.

prior to this I burned through all of Bukowski's novels. that was a blast, definitely plan on rereading them.

seems like most of these can be found easily on streaming services. definitely will check these out seen most the Jackie Chan 90s films back in the 90s. either way that makes them worthy of a rewatch.

I'm honestly trying to transition away from physical media in general tbh.

My VHS collection is in a storage unit. I live in Southern California. I wouldn't be surprised if the heat destroyed most my tapes by now.

People bitch about video games/dvds/blu rays taking up a lot of physical space. I don't think most people remember how much damn space VHS tapes take up.

This is after getting rid of the majority of my collection. Sold off a decent amount of tapes worth over $50, but I still have a good amount of rare tapes that are probably not doing too well in the heat.

I have like 10 sealed copies of Gummo on VHS. Last I checked open copies that weren't sealed were going for like $50-70 each.

Green Room is fantastic as well. as is Murder Party. his newest Netflix film Hold the Dark was a bit disappointing but still enjoyable.

I’m not out of movies to watch. But I feel there’s no movies that give you a sense of adventure like LOTR. Why is there nothing in the market like it? Big epic old school adventure movies are extinct. I guess that’s why I watch the trilogy over and over. Nothing else gives me that.

Nope not at all. I use https://www.icheckmovies.com/ with lets you track how many movies you watched on their various lists (critic lists, award lists, country lists, there's a lot there) and you even get awards for checking enough movies off.

I watch about one movie every day and I have watched around 6901 movies as of yesterday (tbh I also checked some complete seasons of TV shows, never individual episodes) and I still have 1000+ movies on my NAS that I collected based on these lists. Not all legal but fuck streaming in Europe, even the Amazon movies are not on my Prime. And yeah I'm not going to bother with VPN.

The other day someone said this to me and my response was, "have you checked out some of the great movies from the past that aren't going to be found on streaming?"

Here are some of my recommendations for TV & Movies (just a few for now):

The Visitor (1979) very abstract and interesting sci-fi/action movie which never got proper North American promotion.

Dark Star (1974)...one of my favorites (Dan O'Bannon the writer of Alien putting on a comedy performance)

From a Whisper to A Scream (1987) w/ Vincent Price hosting an anthology of interesting low-budget bliss

With TV...

Beastmaster TV -- this came out in the early 2000's and was meant to fit into the Xena/Hercules environment. I'd always enjoyed this one but I think it was just bad timing and likely low ratings...

Andromeda TV. Gene Roddenberry wrote this but I believe he'd already passed away before the first episode was made. My only recommendation is to stick with Seasons 1-3. The final 2 seasons are...meh.

i'm using that time to read more books and play more games. i'm sure there will be more movies to watch soon enough.

I like watching all the businessy documentaries on Netflix. Toys that Made us, Movies that Made us, He-man doc, a movie about the the guy who invented Delorean cars etc.... There's tons of this stuff on NF.

Then again, only fun for people who like these kinds of movies.

Literally thousands of horror and generally under-rated movies out there to watch, and that's my forte obviously, but if you haven't seen a lot of low-budget horror, then I'd recommend hitting up Letterboxd for some suggestions. Watching movies should be fun, doesn't need to be an intellectual experience all the time, so yeah, go knock yourself out watching cheesy holiday/Christmas comedy flicks too.

Watching movies should be fun, doesn't need to be an intellectual experience all the time, so yeah, go knock yourself out watching cheesy holiday/Christmas comedy flicks too.

I'm a bit of a night owl on the weekends. I stay up pretty late Friday and Saturday nights watching movies while she's asleep.

she loves film too tho, finally got her into horror movies. after watching The Witch, she's decided to give the genre a chance. We recently watched Hereditary and Rosemary's Baby which she also loved. I think a lot of people don't realize that some horror films are fucking amazing and they aren't all lacking when it comes substance.

I feel pretty lucky since horror is my favorite genre.
