Yikes that’s rough.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Isn't it already confirmed in their previous video? PS4 on PS5 with BC had the most stable frame rate with minimal lost to visual?
Minimal is debatable but yes, you lose resolution, graphical effects, foliage and the faster load times.

They could make the One X version be able to run on XSX like the Pro does to PS5 to alleviate things.
I'm assuming the One X runs it as good or better than the Pro?

Would still have the load time issues though...

Playing the PS4 version on PS5. I'll take the locked 60fps at the expense of the next gen shine.

No.they say in the video there’s a workaround where you play offline and the lastgen version running on x doesn’t hit 60. Plus, the load times

Grass has shit draw distance so in reality PS4 build sometimes looks more stable visually. What a fucked up priorities for FS, they could just drop resolution more and make PS5 version stable 60fps.

after testing PC, PS5 and Xbox versions thanks to friends having those versions I finally decided to go with the Xbox version
even tho I couldn't test VRR since the guy who had it on Xbox didn't have a VRR TV I just took the gamble since PC and PS5 weren't really an option, and I kinda didn't wanna play the PS4 version either.

Xbox SX on a VRR TV at 120hz (to widen the VRR window down to 24fps) feels super smooth so far even tho my TV tells me the game goes below 50fps a lot.

basically what you get here is a smoother version of that 120hz 40fps mode in Ratchet & Clank... but since it's usually above 40fps and more in the 50fps range it feels and looks visibly smoother than that.

I really, really like the game, but it really is such a technical mess on the XSX (without VRR). It's artistically terrific, but yeah, there's just pop in, image quality issues and crappy framerates all over the place. It's not stuttering or sudden sharp drops, so it doesn't affect gameplay, but still...

I haven't even watched the video since it would just bum me out knowing the console I don't own has the superior version, but I didn't realize the difference in load times is that significant on top of it. Sheesh.

The drive is over 2x slower still.
Not sure if it would help much as you don't get blood from a stone.

They aren't using Direct Storage its really as simple as that. The first game using Direct Storage will be Forspoken. Series X uses DirectX no different than PC.

it would help a lot. especially because that would also entail that they use the decompression block, which it seems they don't use either given the load speeds.

what it seems like is that they simply use the CPU to directly load and decompress from the SSD, like a normal PC game would. which is basically the worst way you could do it on the SX

I don't think Direct Storage is the issue here, on PC even on a SATA SSD you can get much better loading times than the XSX/XSS.

exactly. that's because PCs have way faster CPUs usually. so it's pretty clear they decompress on the CPU on the Xbox consoles

That's exactly what Direct Storage is intended to alleviate.

They do but, and I'm just guessing here, if someone is using a SATA SDD I don't think they have a CPU that much better than a 8 core Zen 2.
And if they do, I don't think it's way faster. I saw reports of sub 10 second load times, that's a big difference.

If it was last gen CPU with Jaguar cores I could understand, but I don't think the delta of the average PC is that big over the Zen 2 cores on the new consoles.

Drive is slower still... so if PS5 is 5 or 6 secs to load than XSX, than XSX in a best case scenario would be double that.

We will revisit this when Direct Storage is shown off later this month at GDC with Forspoken. An open world game that looks technically superior to Elden Ring.

It’s embarrassing. Can’t wait to see how DF will dance around when VRR update comes to PS5.
Oh you PS5 owners still don't have VRR. Right.

Maybe when you guys get that the PS5 will be the definitive way to play. For now it's XSX. I wonder if DF will go back and look at games once/if VRR comes to PS5

For those who have a VRR TV, and not everyone have one of those. Tom Morgan for example don't have one!
(and even so the SeX and Virgin can drop so much that don't even VRR saves)

Exactly.

VRR helps a lot, but does not solve high delays. If a frame has 80ms delay, it's 80ms waiting to display on TV/Monitor, with or without VRR.

Was the game where the PS4 load times were comparable to the X Series? This entire game seems like another poorly optimized cross generational effort. Little can be determined from a title clearly designed around the PlayStation.

Are you actually trying to come up with anything other than buzzwords or you somehow believe Xbox will be able to match PS5 hardware I/O because… magic?

What's "magic" about DirectX 12 getting a brand new I/O that's been talked about since 2020 and is now ready to be shown off with a game shipping this year?

Load times are only like a 1-2 seconds apart between the PS4 and PS5 version on the PS5.

Which is a very clear indication this game was not very well optimized for PS5 (if the poor performance wasn't already telling you that). Although better than XSX, loading shouldn't be talking that long on any of the SSD consoles.

It looks better but isn't doing what Elden is doing plus if I was a betting man id guess the land size won't even be fraction of Elden Rings, finally Forspoken is a current gen only game so should benefit from faster loading by default.

Isn’t forspoken a timed exclusive for like 2 years?

Sure, but that’s besides the point. He actually believes the decompressor unit on Xbox has just been sitting idle all this time. Knows nothing about console development at all.

Yeah, because that’s how it’s been working so far in all the much better optimised cross platform games out there, huh?

Truth is simple in this case. It’s a poor port to the Xbox.

Nothing can be done about pure hardware speed differences in these systems. If PS5 isn’t loading at least twice as fast, then devs aren’t leveraging it, end of story.

Sony got the best version for sure.

I was going to buy this once I had finished cyberpunk, now I won’t bother. I don’t see them doing anything else on this.

How long until you realise that a sata SSD on PC can load just as fast as a PS5?

My pcie 3 m.2 load from one side of the world to the other in 6 seconds. Explain how XSX being slow is purely because it doesn't have cerny secret sauce drive?
