PlayStation acquires Haven, the new studio led by Jade Raymond

What is the big rush to acquire them? They're already making an exclusive for you. Why not let the game come out, see how it does, then decide at that point if you want to acquire them or not. If the game comes out and it's not good, this acquisition is going to look really stupid.

I think the idea is to lockdown people who will put out hits, mainly senior talent.

Remember what people who left initiative didn’t have other things lined up because they can name their price where ever they want right now. Industry is begging for senior talent.

Look at Bungie acquisition. Sony spent an added 1.2 billion to retain talent.

You just can’t help yourself can you. To ignore you go. Yes Sony who has literally put out consistently great polished single player games is expanding to multiplayer games which some if not most will be service games in some form or fashion.

Your thread concern is seen as you created another GT7 thread to let everyone know how bad the practices are even though the entire community including press have covered it to death.

Thanks for informing everyone how much of a James Bond villain Sony is.

Christ.
K bye

Lol, let MS first make sure they can manage their own studios. If there is 1 party that people trust with dealing with studios and what they manage to get out of them it is Sony with PlayStation.

MS cant manage is studios lol, they are just buying time. But they are also buying IP’s that will keep them in the game and probably buy more.

My concern is Playstation not getting IP’s theyve had before, I dont really care what MS does as they aren’t really good at gaming altogether.

But that doesnt mean Playstation should make pointless decisions and let them buy IP’s. They need to counter properly, not Bungie and Jade lol

Fuck yeah. New studio built from the ground up
That's not necessarily a good thing anymore.

That's what The Initiative is. They've had over half of their employees quit over disagreements, have gone 4 years without putting out so much as a clip of gameplay for a game and have resorted to bringing in a third-party studio to take over and make their game for them.

Building new studios from the ground up is a very difficult thing to do. There's only so much talent and they all pretty much already have jobs currently.

That Jade Redmond woman must be REALLY good at social relationships. Otherwise I don't understand how she gets away with important industry places everytime, despite not doing anything worth more than a failure in all her recent years of career.

Exactly. 5 years MS has been buying studios and nothing significant has come of it. Yet people are concerned with Sony purchases......purchases that actually show results.

Thread has nothing but sodium filled trolls.

As expected of course.

Since… their last acquisition?

True but Bungie was an exception in the last 2 decades for Playstation purchases unlike what MS does with purchases.

And Bungie has a proven track record of games and had a deal with Playstation regarding Destiny. Jade’s new team hasnt done anything

so this is a legit question, what has Raymond shipped since Splinter Cell (i think that was under her, right?) i find it silly that someone who has done so little keeps floating to the top (and I'm all for female creators, designers, etc)

So you do not care about new IP's? Buying up publishers for their IP isn't going to guarantee you that those IP's will stay relevant in the future.

At this point, MS hasn't done shit so far....

Why...because of The Initiative....for real? It only shows that MS is not capable building up studios and manage them.

I get it for Bungie. They are a proven studio. Haven has done nothing yet. Also, if senior talents leave Haven midway through this project, that should inform you on what shape the project is in. Let the game prove itself first. Sony will have plenty of time to retain these talents.

Well she knows how to make money that's for sure. Hasn't actually created a single game in her life but manages to build and sell a studio within a year.
Someone explain the fascination with Jade Raymond to me. She hasn’t done anything in like 15 years lol
Its more the industries perception of her, everyone she has worked with says she is exceptional.

Unfortunately she has been in situations where she couldn't even complete a game because of structural changes in the orgs she worked with (EA/Google).

At her other jobs she was only there for 2-3 years since leaving Ubisoft.
She's an exec. She's good at opening studios and getting venture capital funding.

I think that's about it. Maybe she'll help with recruitment in Canada
None. She was executive producer of first 2 AC games and SC:Blacklist.

She was first a programmer at Sony Online Entertainment, then a producer for The Sims Online and later for Ubisoft in the first AC games and after that studio manager of Ubisoft Toronto, studio she was tasked to create and grow. At that point she also was Executive Producer for a few games more, starting from there she mainly became studio manager (the boss of the studio).

She and her teams co-created many super successful blockbuster AAA games and new IPs like Assasin's Creed, The Division (best selling launch all time record for a new IP in Europe), Watchdogs, Splincer Cell Blacklist, Rainbow Six Siege, some Far Cry games just to name a few.

EA hired her and asked her to create a AAA studio. She created Motive, that started as a support team Battlefront 2 (not for part that made this game a mess), released Star Wars Squadron and started to work on Dead Space remake.

Later Google hired her to became a VP in charge of the Stadia in-house games but Google shut down this area once they saw the initial reactions to Stadia before she was able to ship a game.

Then in a few months she created Haven and brought with her many top staff who worked in these or other super successful AAA games to continue a project they started to create for Google. A big portion of the Haven team has been working with her since the first AC games and followed her to the different companies. Other ones joined her later and also followed her, or moved to other AAA teams and came back to her later.

A top tier team, working on a project that should be promising enough to make Sony sign a 2nd party exclusive shortly after they created the studio and a year later to buy them.

Very few active people in the gaming industry created a bigger amount of super successful AAA games, AAA new IPs and AAA studios. This is why top people like EA, Google or Sony appreciate her and her teams. In addition to this, who worked with her agree she is very talented and a great boss.

But everyone just left....and there was rumours Jade will up and leave soon....that's what I saw on here anyway. lol
No. Sony bought Haven, not The Initiative.

I honestly don't know. The fact that this is a service game being made makes me less than excited. Her name doesn't mean much to me but wishing for their success, I'm just kind of cautiously pessimistic about this project since its service based from an unproven team, and after the gt7 service debacle sony got alot to prove from a service front.

The organic thing is beaten to death, it sounds retarded bringing it up like its negative point considering so much has changed.

You expect Sony to stay ”organic” while MS buys publishers and IP’s they had nothing to do with creating? So Sony should carry on doing things like they done before because they said organic and thats what they are use to doing?

Clearly after MS started buyings IP’s and publishers, Sony no longer could do things how they mainly use to. Which was, work with or build a studio slowly, publish and create new ip together and then purchase them.

So, basically, she formed Haven, pitched an idea to Sony, they liked it and funded some development.
Then Haven run out of money and Sony bought it to not lose every penny of their prior investment.

At least, I have seen this story for non-gaming studios quite a couple of times.

Just like Knack :D

Anyway, we know this is a live service based multiplayer game ala Rainbow Six Siege etc and its a small 60 person studio, so probably shouldn't expect the next Uncharted caliber game.
If its like destiny 2, it might be lit. As long as they don't ubisoft us though.

Talent isn't assessed this way.

Gamers assess game makers talent by the quality of games they produce.

When you work with someone every day for an extended period of time, you know who the talented people are regardless of giant milestones.

How is buying another studio organic? Neither are organic. Doesn't matter if they made games for MS or Sony systems. They didn't make those studios.

lol another con by raymond

she really has to thank ubisoft for making people think she's an "expert" in gaming. Imagine if AC never happened lol

You underestimate just how attractive I am. I have to carry around a jar of Nutella and a jar of smooth peanut putter to smear over my nob because I get propositioned for a blow job 5 or 6 times a day by women in the street.

You are an exception Banjo, hope you work it out with Kazooie though

Their game/project was in the works when they were under Google Umbrella for stadia. It changed when they left and created a new studio, but most of the developers/talent who were under stadia all left to join haven on top of top talent from ubisoft being poached. Who now work at Haven.

I do care about new ip’s but I care equally if not more for IP’s that have had me playing games for decades. Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, MGS, Tekken, Etc. Id hate to see them not come to playstation. And Sony would be stupid if they think their console would be as popular if they didnt have these games.

Having some key ip’s like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Persona, MGS, Final Fantasy will serve playstation well instead of Jade’s new Ip. Fans of those games will always go where those games go. Same as how Elder scroll, Fallout and Doom fans will go where those games go. MS now has that to fall back on forever.
