Epic Games has committed to donating “all its Fortnite proceeds” to Ukraine humanitarian relief efforts for a two-week period ending on April 3.

It has been joined by Xbox, which will also donate its “net proceeds” from Fortnite during this time.

The money is going to four humanitarian relief organisations – Direct Relief, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the United Nations World Food Programme, and the United Nations Refugee Agency.

Just one day after announcing the donation plan, Epic said $36 million had been raised to support people affected by the war in Ukraine.

The UN Refugee Agency estimates that three million people have fled to neighbouring countries since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

Many games companies have made significant donations to the humanitarian relief effort in Ukraine including Square Enix, Embracer Group, 11 bit studios, Bandai Namco, CD Projekt Red, Supercell, Ubisoft, Unity and The Pokémon Company.

Indie developers from across the world have also contributed games to a large bundle designed to raise money for Ukraine. The Bundle for Ukraine is available on itch.io and contains 991 items. Players who make a minimum donation of $10 will get everything, DRM-free. It has raised over $6 million to date.

And Humble Bundle’s $40 ‘Stand with Ukraine’ Bundle has raised over $10 million for charity so far. The 123-piece bundle is available until Friday.

Many companies, including platform holders Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, have suspended sales of their products in Russia.

Whoever plucked the number $10 million out of thin air, and posted in the other thread could not have been more wrong.

Really good news. Well done Epic and MS. And well done to the players.
I was off the mark by $26m. Guess I was wrong. Fortnite makes too much money from xbox.

It's a great cause and I love it.

But it really shows that F2P games are way to insane money, which is unfortunate.

Well it looks like plenty more free PC games to come on the Epic Store if that's the amount of dough they can generate in no time.

This is great, but how is it even possible?
That's just crazy 😳

You guys are reading this wrong

It's 100% from Epic's revenue (might actually be 70% depends on accounting) + plus the 30% from Xbox.
Its 100% of what Fortnite makes on xbox. The 70/30 is after that revenue. But for this period, all split will go to Ukraine. No one will keep the money.

If Xbox + Epic were able to provide $36 million in one day, then PlayStation being the console leader would have been able to do at least $50 million in the same time frame, not considering there are 13 more days in this commitment. A $2 million donation seems extremely low in this context.
That money is from PS pocket. This money is from the users pocket. In a essence, users are the ones that are paying this money, not MS or Epic.

It has been joined by Xbox which will also, so it's two separate sets of commitments/donations.

It's not fortnite revenue on xbox. Separately you can do the maths using the annual numbers and the platform splits to figure out what it is more likely to be.

Its the Xbox fortnite revenue + Epic fortnite revenue. That is what it means. So its 100% of what Fortnite generates from xbox before taxes.

Plus the fortnite revenue from PS and other platforms.

Those other platforms might not be donating the 30%.

That's my point.

How does that make sense?

So if Amazon donated all their future sales for the rest of the year worth $100 billion, it's not a big deal because it's not their money even though users will buy $100 billion of stuff from them?

Because users have to make a purchase, in order to get those money. They arent accessing their bank balance.
Out of pocket, is not needing the users to buy your product in order to pay it.

This is from Epic (inc. Xbox, PS, mobile and whatever else), not Xbox.
Did you check the date on that tweet?

And whatever money is available in Sony's corporate coffers came from purchases too.

Tell you what, if you ever owe me $20 dont pay me from your bank account. Dont want to cut into your out of pocket expenses. Just pay me $100 from your next pay stub.

you weren't off the mark by 26m. You guessed they'd earn 10 million for the whole 2 weeks and they earned 36 in a day. so by the end you could be wrong by 300-400 millions USD.

You are arguing about the previous sales. What they have in their bank, is their previous sales. That is the money they have on their pocket.
This money is not available. They dont have it. Users would have to buy it. The amount of money, will depend on how much users spend their money on those 14 days.

Seems like you're just arguing semantics at this point, yes Epic's not "paying" that money, the users are, but Epic's forgoing all of that revenue and donating it, which is the same end result as them paying it themselves as far as their bank balance is concerned

Epic isn’t sharing just the revenue from Fortnite on xbox. It’s all of Fortnite.

So no, Sony’s 30% won’t come anywhere close to that figure.

They are giving up their money for the cause.
This debate entirely started, because I said Sony was paying the money from pocket.
