Whats the most souls/runes you've ever lost in a Soulsbourne game?

So I've never been massive on From Software games mainly due to the high difficulty and time investment, but have really been getting into Elden Ring the past few weeks. I built up around 40,000 runes and completely forgot to spend them as I was just too busy exploring, long story short I ran into mini boss in some cave and tried about 30 runs trying to get my runes back, even tried 4 player co op, no dice and I eventually died. It made me think, what's the most someone has ever lost in one of these games? 40,000 was only about enough to level up 5 times but I'm sure they are rookie numbers, so share away any stories you have of pain and dispair below!

970,560. Dark souls 3.

It was enough to level up three or four times but i got cocky in the demon ruins while playing co-op and ended getting killed by one of those damn fire throwing sing rat-dog demons

And this was perma-lost btw. Ive lost waaaay more in elden ring (nearly 2m) but ive always been successful getting them back so far

Probably 50,000 or so, as soon as I can level up I spend them.

But once you’ve found a solid farming spot, souls/runes become academic. The “shoot the dumb bird” spot in Elden Ring basically broke the levelling system for me, if I’m struggling I’ll just spend half an hour or so gaining a couple of levels.

I still suck though…🤷🏼‍♂️

The spot next to them with the rolly guys is way better, but it basically requires a certain weapon to be good.

I dunno man, I’ve got a spot to slot an arrow just between the branches three steps away from the grace, can trot back and forth and score a kill in 5-6 seconds, I think it’s 13,500+ runes per shot with the scarab and a golden foot, no idea how many that is per hour though.

I just set up my iPad to watch an episode of something while I perform the ritual, it’s tedious but I never subject myself to it for more than 20-30 minutes at a time. I have no idea how folk farm a spot like that for hours at a time, jeez…

depends on the level/experience of "loss"

I lost like 10k in bloodborne when I was a total noob and that really hurt. losing anything early in the game sucks.

but losing like 60k when I was over-leveled with totally OP weapons was like "whatever I just grind cathedral ward for 15 min get and get them back easy" lol

The spot I'm talking about you'll get probably a million runes in a few minutes.

Fair, I think I know the kind of spot you’re referring to but I have no magic at all in my build.

I just cheese the dumb bird like a real tarnished, 😅
32 million blood echoes in bloodborne.
I was in a chalice dungeon grinding out arcane to reach level 99, and I wanted to do large chunks in 1 go.
Yeah, fatigue caused me to die, and a wolf cornered me, losing it all.

Never bothered to max out arcane afterwards.
Ah, no way!

I can’t believe you banked that many souls without cashing in. I know “the thrill of losing it all” is part and parcel of farming, but cashing in takes mere seconds and is a regular reward for your tedious busywork.

I don’t have the balls to go more than a few levels without banking, one step too far cheesing that dumb bird and it’s almost as if you’ve wasted your time, 😂

Probably about 200k or so but I never care. Because when it happens, its easy to regain, or I don't level up anymore.

I've lost 90k about twice last week, but in reality its just 1 level up. So I see it as nothing.

100K runes, or close to it, several times

Really not that hard to get it back though if you know the good farming spots.

Well shit
Goto layer 5 of the Izu chalice dungeon you get from ebertias or whatever her name is you can farm like 100k be every 4 minutes or so.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
A lot. Don't fucking remind me.

If bloodborne ever hits PC I'm using infinite blood echo cheats.
I'm done spending hours doing so. Lol

No idea, but once I lost almost 300k runes in Elden Ring by getting pushed off a cliff by the most basic bitch footsoldier. Honestly, that was hilarious.

I'm intrigued to know what this 'dumb bird' is?

What bird ? Lol I run around killing things like a chump
Grand Mausoleum. Palace Approach Ledge-Road site of grace. You can fire an arrow at a Ostrich and it'll charge the cliff. Die and give you 11k-13k runes for no effort. Play like a masochist and keep rest resetting and you'll get 3-4 million runes per hour if dedicated.

Anyway the correct answer is all of them since you lose runes when you die, level up or buy anything.

It’s a farm spot where you can snipe a bird off a cliff in mere seconds from a Grace for 13,000+ runes, you can literally do it on repeat every 10 seconds or so for easy runes.

But in typical souls fashion you need to jump through some hoops that you’d likely never find on your own by simply playing the game to end up there, but just search on YouTube and it’ll be right there in the top few results.

As above.

There’s 15-20 minutes of hoop jumping to get there, but there’s plenty of YouTube videos to walk you through it.

“Elden Ring Farming Bird” as a search and you should find it.

Remember when death means losing your unsaved progress forever?

Anyway, something like a million in 2 from pvp-ing I think. Didn't matter by that point though.

I was going to insert a pun but it's felt a little gay so I noped tf out

I'll probably look into it but surely it ruins the game a bit?

I mean it does break the game a bit, yeah.

But you’ll come to realise as you progress that the game openly cheats the player later on with the “god mode” bosses who seemingly have infinite stamina and such, so fight fire with fire innit.

Number alone means nothing, 100K is different when you are at the beginning of the game compare to later area. Its heartbreaking in the early areas, where I could lost millions without giving a second thought in the later area.

Ahh .. I can’t do that as I’ve killed the guy you need to reach that place early. I didn’t like the look of him. 😂

Can’t remember exactly but in my NG+3 run sof both DS1 and DS3 I probably lost +900.000 souls plenty of times because I stopped leveling to be able to keep invading and co-op.

Elden Ring will probably break this record though, some of the end game bosses give absurd amounts of runes even in the first cycle.

Who cares about souls how about 45 hours saves getting corrupted?

I won't touch elden ring again until the PC version is fully patched

Don't know. Don't care. A bunch, probably. The thing about soulsbourne is that, yeah, losing a bunch of "currency" is soul crushingly devastating...... and then you respawn and rejoin the fray because holy hell are these games bloody amazing. Why cry over spilt milk when you can just go buy some more milk? Vae victis.

500k-1mi a couple of times in the good ole days of dark root PVP in Dark Souls 1.

The secret of these games is just embrace the suck and don't even care about runes at all. The problem lies in itens that you can't farm that easily like spend your "titanite shards" and mess up in some weapon evolution etc.
