As someone who’s beaten DS twice now (PC and Switch) just now got Elden Ring and…..

I’m brand new. Just began this journey.

I am sure it can’t ever be DS, I can restart that game 156x and it’s amazing every one of them

After just booting this game up and getting started, this is very modeled closely after DS

From the sound effects to the voice acting to the menu

I chose the Golden Seed btw and also playing on One X

Any cool things I need to know that you wish you had?

You should probably check out the OT, this game's still too new for a LTTP thread. The best piece of advice is don't force yourself into the story path if you're having a hard time. The freedom to explore and get stronger through exploration are the biggest changes over the Souls games.

Don't go east at the beginning of the game.

Not all popular bosses that people discuss at length are mandatory bosses.

Take your time.

If you're having a tough time, go explore and come back.

Use every tool at your disposal for when you feel you might need it. If you're the prideful type, just keep in mind what that comes with.

If you think you've hit a dead end too soon or something doesn't quite feel right, hit some walls.

Take advantage of your new jump attack and guard counter. The game wants you to use both.

Don’t try to beat the first mandatory boss early in the game. Explore the south.

Play some more.
DS to me is easily top 5 of all time. So it’s not a knock on it lol this game so far is an absolute masterpiece. As I expected frankly.

I’ve spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours in DS and I’m excited to get a fresh look at the franchise

make sure you use the blessing because if you just keep it sitting in your inventory it will debuff you. it's not huge but still... i think its -5% health.
I’m like a virgin again.

So umm. How do I do this?

My fear is, like DS… it’s a bit cryptic and I’ll miss out

Is there things to “pop” like souls to level up? Renamed obviously as it won’t be souls
souls have been renamed to runes in this and yeah you'll get runes to pop :) they are called golden runes and you can get hero's rune and lord runes later on. depending on the quality you can get between 200-50,000.

Knew it. Think I’ve collected some of the sort 😂

This game is DS. I’m learning it all over. Except I’m far more prepared at combat and know how to parry like a BOSS

The 3 most important things to do are (in order):

1. Get the Horse
2. Get the summoning bell
3. Get the flask of wondrous physick.

These 3 things are unique to ER and what primarily makes the gameplay different from previous Souls games.

All 3 are found in the starting area and aren't in any way hidden, you just need to go to the appropriate site of grace and either watch the event or simply collect the item.

Beyond that, just make sure you're setup in basic Soul's style. i.e. know the basic and advanced controls (i.e how to switch between 1hand and 2hand), have some means of generating light in dark areas, and have some form of both melee and ranged attack available.

Explore. Have fun.

On that note, one last tip, you can always see the location of map fragments in obscured areas. Look closely!

This sounds insanely cool. Do I have any of this and if not why? Dammit. I need A crash course like I’ve never played a souls game 😒

I've platinumed every Souls' game and everything I mentioned I waited way too long to get when I started Elden!

It didn't ruin the experience, but it made it way tougher to begin with than it really ought to. The Bell & Physick is particularly useful and are both huge deals because they aren't just "one and done" objects. They are the base building blocks for two systems you'll be adding to throughout the game!

Gotta say as well, I didn't feel the least bit bad about missing these things. The world is so big and there so much to do its actually very easy to spend hours exploring and fighting before you run across them, despite how accessible they are, if you come in blind like I did.

If you want to make yourself substantially stronger to start the game, you can ride your horse all the way to the northeast of the starting area, and kill a sleeping dragon for a huge amount of runes.

This game is dark souls 3 open world.
Has nothing to do with feel of dark souls 1. It's like a completely different era

I replayed some ds1 yesterday... christ.. It aged like rotten eggs. And I finished it many times. Thought it is a PERFECT game
I was always expecting it to age like RE4 but it's just clunky, annoying and corpse runs are terrible.
The combat feels like exchanging moves and enabling animations. oof
I did not had this feeling when replaying Demons Souls on ps5 for some reason.
It only makes me appreciate how much good did ds2 really tried. That's why it is my fav

Go spoiler free, even if you get stuck. The golden light arcs at the graces literally tell you where to go. I started as a Wretch and it took several hours to get a full set of armor and this was amazing. The bosses are hard but you can beat them all at low levels with practice. Alternately, you can grind the open world then cheese them to death. Enjoy the ride, it's the best you'll ever play!

But it's often best to go somewhere else. New players are gonna have a hard time if they just follow the main path.

If an area or boss is frustrating, go explore and when you come back, you'll be significantly more powerful.

We gonna have to disagree.

Ds1 is a game I can boot up and restart randomly for no reason and have an absolute blast. The voice acting to the music and scenery. It’s an masterpiece. I’ve spent hundreds of hours just doing non sense on it and it still manages to whip my ass from time to time.

Graphics honestly weren’t “good” when it released. It was acceptable. Still how I feel About it now. It’s a GOAT for me. Top 5.

Lol I remember your DS first playthrough thread good times!!

What ended up being your favourite weapon build etc?!
Do you? Ahh. Thanks friend.

I always Enjoyed a hardy strength/dex build.

I can truly restart the game and enjoy every second of it. Beaten it twice. Played online many many times. Spent hundreds of hours and yet feel I’ve left much undiscovered.

Weapon wise. Ehhh. Dunno. Probably the slasher blood lost sword…Uchigatana

Obviously loved me some Claymore and other long swords.

The dragon sword is my GOTO every time I restart the game. Obviously it’s not good longevity wise. But it’ll get you through a good portion of the game
