They can hire me too.

For the next years I'd buy, in this order of preference (depending on availability and budget) for PS Studios:
  1. From Software
  2. Rockstar
  3. ARC System Works
  4. Kojima Productions
  5. Netherrealm + Rocksteady + TT Games + Avalanche Software + WB Games Montreal
  6. Quantic Dream
  7. Probably Monsters / Firewalk (if their first game is good and successful)
  8. Deviation (if their first game is good and successful)
  9. Supermassive
  10. A handful of top VR only devs who successfully worked for them like Camoflauj, Impulse Gear or Enhance (Tetris Effect & Rez Infinite)
  11. People Can Fly (and poach tons of Polish talent from CD Project and Techland secured under good Sony studio managment and working conditions)
  12. Arrowhead (if Helldivers 2 is good and successful)
  13. Emberlab (before that sign them a 2nd party game, if good and successful then buy them)
All the future games of PS Studios would be PS5 exclusive and some would be ported to PC years later.

I also would buy these publishers to keep them publishing multiplatform games (including rival consoles) using their own label under SIE but outside PS Studios. Keeping them exclusive for marketing, game subs, console+game bundles, exclusive demos/betas or from time to time some timed console exclusivities:
  1. Capcom
  2. Valve
  3. Bandai Namco
  4. Square Enix
  5. Kadokawa Games (all their non FromSoft publishers and devs merged)
  6. Devolver Digital
  7. Sega
  8. Ubisoft
  9. Konami
  10. A handful of succesful mobile studios like Gameloft, Scopely, Cyber Agent or Nexon to help them bring their IPs to mobile
Bandai toys and figurines division would get a push for the western market and would get access to Sony games, movies or anime IPs to make merchandising for them. Bandai and the Sony toy robots team would team up under a new division: Sony Toys.

All Kadokawa mangas, books, magazines and game guides publishing labels, companies, teams and IPs now would placed directly under a new division: Sony Books. They would get access to all the Sony IPs from the other divisions to make mangas, books, official game guides or artbooks of them.

All the movies, tv shows, tv channels, anime and music labels, production teams and IPs of these acquired publishers would be transfered to the respective Sony divisions.

Steam would be merged with PSN to become the PSN PC store, all future 1st and 3rd party games would be crossbuy between PC and PlayStation. The Valve Index team would be merged with the PSVR team to work on a PSVR3, PSVR2 would run on PC and would get Half Life Alyx as launch game. Steam Deck would include the whole PSP and Vita (TV?) catalog and Steam Deck 2 would be renamed to PS Vita 2.

All -or most- the arcades or amusement centers would include a small Sony store to sell Sony products like PS stuff, (Kadokawa) game guides, game themed artbooks, magazines or books, (Bandai) toys and figurines. If big enough they would also include a bar where they would stream PS eSports like EVO. They would expand these Sony store barcades to the west.

Experts on GAF want to buy defunct Konami IPs and have 0 perspective.
There is a lot of potential value in Konami and their IPs for Sony. Look at these market trends to get perspective:
  • Gaming in consolidation period where a few companies will end having all the big studios and IPs
  • Game subscriptions are growing
  • Cloud gaming and internet connection quality are growing
  • PC, console, portables and mobile converging into a single hardware family with relatively similar horsepower
  • The most important game engines (UE and Unity) are full multiplatform including mobile
  • Console platform holders and big publishers are moving to a more full multiplatform approach
  • Big game IPs expanding to cinema, tv shows, anime and so on
  • Apple is making their 'console' and unlike with Pippin they are now a key actor in the gaming market and have the support from every publisher
This leads to think that platforms like PlayStation will evolve into digital platform agnostic platform that will compete against a few similar ones from MS, Nintendo, Apple, Tencent and so on. Or that minimum, their game subs and cloud gaming will be way more important in the future.

To compete there, content is king. They will need the biggest amount possible not only of new games, but also from old classics, in the same way some people prefer Netflix, Disney+ or HBO mostly because some classics they have even if never will watch them again. They will also need to differentiate their brand and one of their main assets to do so is the popularity of the PlayStation consoles and its classics to generate nostalgia. So would be also be able to use Konami IPs for this.

In addition to this, they have many teams who could reboot these key IPs like Castlevania (From Soft, Sony Santa Monica..), Silent Hill (Kojipro, Supermassive, Quantic Dream...), PES (Sony San Diego), Metal Gear (Kojipro, Sony Bend, Bluepoint...) or Contra (by Housemarque, Bungie...) as modern AAA who would sell way more than they ever sold, and could also use classic IPs for smaller titles (like a new Bomberman by Asobi or Media Molecule, new Gradius by Housemarque...). Plus would be able to exploit them in movies, tv shows and anime etc.

And well, if they also buy other Japanese publisher like Capcom, Sega or Bandai Namco they could share their classic arcade games for their amusement centers.

In addition to this, Sony wants to bring their PS IPs to mobile to grow in mobile and Asia, and Konami has been very successul at doing this.

Sony could make an excellent open world prequel series about young Solid Snake’s adventures, and a terrifying Silent Hill series that is more serious and scary than Resident Evil.

Sony go to Facebook and acquire Ready At Dawn from them.

Also get either Quantic Dream or Supermassive Games.

kojima Productions too.

You don’t need to buy a publisher.

I just hope that the guy who takes this role can speak some sense to Sony to not buy further GAAS developers, The PS plataform needs a RPG and a Fighting Game, Microsoft has Bethesda and Obsidian, and Sony owns EVO wich is kinda ironic If you don't own a Fighting Game.

Why hasn’t Sony bought Kojima productions? Just go ahead and remaster MGS4 and right after than announce MGS6, be aggressive with the era of acquisitions.

Can GAF be hired as a collective?

I'm sure our resume would more than exceed Sony's expectations for the position.
It would also solve the financial difficulties the site faces. This is a great win-win proposal with no downside other than Sony's future, when can we start?

Because they don't need to.

All they need is to buy is Cerny Industries to secure Knack 3, Knack 4, Knack 5 Knackle Royale, Crypto MetKnackverse and Knack Racing to dominate the gaming market during the next 4 decades.

Pretty much. With Blizzard and Bethesda games locked out, they have a hole that needs filling for big AAA WRPG. Fighting games.. that would be nice but not necessary.

A modern AAA RPG from PS could have crazy potential.

Sony already have enough studios and partners to keep releasing 3 or 4 big games each year (not counting sports game) and the market doesn't support much more than that. Very few studios can compete with Sony when it comes to big budget AAA games, they have the audience and the willingness to spend.

It makes sense for them to expand into other markets and GaaS is clearly an area where they are lacking (Gran Turismo, Destiny and MLB to an extend are all they have going on for them in that regard). It's about finding a balance and finding areas where they can complement what the third party publisher are already offering.

The problem with GaaS is that success doesn't correlate with budget as much. You need to fire plenty of shots and it's hard to tell what is going to be a hit. Sony had a great game with Dreams and didn't know what to do with it, while a garbage game like Roblox found success.

This game was underrated ! i really hope that they can bring It back. Arc System Works it's so good i wonder if someone is scooping the possibility of acquiring them they are probably one of the fewest fighting game developer no tied to a big publisher.

Indeed, a RPG with Sony's AAA budget could be something really special, the question is who could make the job done in your opinion ?

True, the GAAS market is so specific you could spend millions and do not produce a single hit it can happen with Sony for example all this 10+ GAAS projects that they are creating maybe none of them can turn successfull but then when they shift focus something with a really low investiment can turn good, it is so variable.

You can spend all the money in the world and up getting a fraction of the attention some random low budget game that no one saw coming is doing. That rarely happens with more traditional releases.

One thing Sony could use to take advantage of their resources is to get into the business of cloning/copying popular games and making more polished versions. That's pretty much what all the most popular PC multiplayer games are.

Apparently Sony found the infinite money glitch when they can afford all these publishers.

I said "in this order of preference (depending on availability and budget)".

So starting from the first, if don't have enough budget or isn't for sale, move to the next one. And repeat until you complete the list. And then in the future, repeat the process once you got more budget becomes available or one of them decides to sell.

With their available cash etc I think they could afford any of these individual acquisitions excluding Rockstar and Valve. And well, they could always get some debt or pay with stocks if needed more money (but I think they won't).

If they don't buy them is because the owner doesn't want to sell them or because Sony doesn't want to buy them (maybe because consider they price isn't worth it, because they think it's fine to continue having them as 3rd party, etc). The problem isn't the money.

Dreams needs to be ported to PS5 and PC with crossplay/buy day one. It's a fantastic tool/game but needs a wider audience and more clever marketing.

Square Enix and Capcom are the first to come to mind. Both have experience with high profile open world RPG's. Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter / Dragons Dogma.
