UK Market: PS5 stock improves and Lego Star Wars breaks records in April

PlayStation 5 and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga were the big winners in a quiet April for new game launches.
Over 92,000 consoles were sold in the UK last month according to charts company GfK, a drop of 18% over March.
PS5 was the best performing machine, due to a significant improvement in stock levels. It is the best month of the year for PS5 so far, with sales up 59% over March. However, year-to-date sales are still down by 51%.
It was the opposite story for Xbox Series S and X, which was No.1 last month but is down into third position in April as stock levels fell 59% month-on-month.
The second best-selling console was Nintendo Switch, although sales are down slightly over March.
Overall, console sales are down 38% year-to-date, primarily due to stock shortages for PS5 and Xbox Series S and X.
Over in the accessories space, 517,000 add-on products were sold in April, down 19.2% over March and 13.7% over the same period in 2021.
The rise in PS5 sales has caused an uptick in sales for the White DualSense controller, which rises three places to reclaim No.1. That means last week's best-seller, the Xbox Wireless Controller (Carbon Black) slips to second position.
The Black DualSense controller also shoots up the charts, from No.19 to No.6. Finally, also up the charts this week is the PS4 DualShock 4 controller, which leaps ten places to No.3.
Finally, in terms of games (digital and physical), data firm GSD says that 2.3m titles were sold in the UK during April. That's a drop of 18% over March, but up 12.5% compared with the same month in 2022.
847,000 of those games were sold in boxed form, with the remainder (1.46m) coming via digital download stores.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was comfortably the No.1 game and is the fastest-selling Lego game in history, according to publisher Warner Bros.
The second best-selling new release was Nintendo Switch Sports at No.5. Nintendo currently doesn't share digital sales with the charts companies, so it's possible the title may have charted higher if it was included. In the retail-only charts, the game was No.2 behind Lego Star Wars.

Amazing month for ps5 hardware. Keep em coming Sony.

Horizon seems low for the month when you see how well its performing weekly. Strange.

Red Dead 2 charting, over 40-50 million units sold and then some... and R* treats it like a bastard child.

Feels bad man.

What issues is it currently having?

There's all kinds of analysis videos out there that get into the deep dives, but overall it has terrible screen tearing in many levels, the overall image during gameplay is blurry quite often and doesn't look anywhere as good as the cutscenes. The overall gameplay performance just feels sloppy to me. Ive gone through the 9 stories for the episodes, but im not even going to attempt freeplay mode for all the extra stuff until they patch it. When you look at the Series X version next to the PS5 version it's quite awful in comparison.

ShopTo has some in stock (bundles, Horizon bundles sold out).
Xbox Series X in stock on Amazon (not sure how to change the URL to add the affiliate link)

Hopefully anyone who wants one bad can get one before they are gone, fuck the scalpers. Seems like it could be a good month for both PS5 and Series X, it's the first time I've seen stock last this long for either of them.

I honestly think the people moaning about scalpers spend more time moaning than actually trying to get the console tbh.

They were never hard to get.

Red Dead Online flopped and the single player is sub par next to GTAV
It flopped due to their admittedly super slow drip-feed of content. That was all on them.

I vastly preferred RDR2s single.player, in not only story, but the setting and world.

50+ million in sales is far from paltry that only R* can be cunts about with lack of support.

I pre-ordered as soon as it was available in 2020 and got mine day one because I wanted one, but scalpers have had some effect, especially around Christmas time I would think though I would never pay those prices myself it's a bit like with GPU prices, fuck that.
I'll wait for a normal price 3060.
My friend couldn't get hold either one until late last year, she managed to get a Series X first and a few weeks after a PS5 I think from PS Direct.
Things seem to be looking up for the 4K twins stock (Series S and Switch are readily available).

I can't stand GTAV/Read Dead Redemption 2 online, not sure if it's because I don't like 3rd person pvp or because of the shit controls.
Oh that reminds me I need to get GTA V for £10.
