To the people who are concerned about xbox this gen, this is what they will have this gen so far. Plus activision, if the deal is done.

Half of the game are not even out yet. The other half are 'unannounced project'.

I want to see the games, not 'something in the future'

People can be excited for unreleased games. There’s certainly a lot of folks excited about Spiderman 2 and Wolverine. Let’s not change the narrative because it’s for a console you down like. That’s basically what console warz is all about.

What was the last game they released? What is the next?

People: “Xbox future looks promising”

You: “they didn’t release a game yet in 2022”

How’s that related? and how many Xbox owners have you met that bought their console solely for H1 2022?

Games take time, especially these days. Microsoft had something like 4 first party studios at the start of the Xbox One gen. They didn't start acquiring more until near the end of last gen.

No but i mean i'm sure a lot of the studios started new projects when they were bought. So taking into account covid, 2-3 years really isnt a long time.
I said at the start of this gen that it will be the second half of the gen when the games really start flowing consistantly for Xbox.
some projects may of been cancelled and others not. we will see in a few weeks tie were they are unto hopefully

A global pandemic was tearing through society.

Sitting around and waiting is literally what happened to a lot of people, and we aren't anywhere near seeing the end of it's impact.

yeah global endemic where the likes of game designers could work from home.is that what you mean?

I feel we will just get a short CGI trailer for Indiana Jones, with that epic music everyone knows and loves, avowed however, I think we will get a nice gameplay demo.

I am probably asking for to much, but would love to see a Hexen remake too.
Indiana Jones likely won't be there. I think it's not an exclusive game that is coming on all platforms. In that case, the marketing will be slightly muted -- especially at times and events like these.

Agreed. They have like 23 studios and barely any of them have released a game this gen which just means that a flood of games will be releasing starting next year.

On the other hand none of what was shown on that list really hyped me up for xbox. Just a personal taste thing, but maybe I'll just need to see some gameplay to be convinced. Maybe fable, but not a fan of the humor from the trailers of the old games so I never jumped in to that series.

Sorry but this thread sucks. People are complaining before ms has shown ANYTHING this year. They haven't had a game showcase yet. If you want to complain at least wait to see if there really are any new or unannounced titles for this fall on june 12th.
Based on their track record of announcing games 4 years before they launch, what on earth makes you think they have unannounced games stealth dropping in the second half of the year?

They do release smaller things soon after revealing them :
Grounded - annonced november 2019, early access July 2020
Forza Horizon 5 - annonced e3 2021, released November 2021
Gears 5: Hivebusters - annonced december 8, released december 15 2020
Master chief collection - annonced e3 2014, released n
ovember 11, 2014
SoT: A Pirate’s Life - annonced e3 2021, released June

It wouldn't be far fetched to expect the next Forza motorsport, a gears collection and some DLCs(Certain affinity Halo infinite rumored new mode , FH5), maybe one or two smaller games.

I just can't be excited when I'm hearing the same narrative over and over again - 'next/this year will be/is the best Xbox year ever! I grew tired of this. Xbox doesn't had good track record of delivering games.

Some guys here were acting like people will buy an Xbox Series the moment MS bought X, Y, or Z publisher, when in reality it will take years to bear fruit (besides old games going into game pass).

Global pandemic, bud. You speak as if transitioning a company's workforce over to work from home, is somehow not a logistical hellscape that interrupts work flow.

I mean, nevermind people dying, being terrified by not knowing the limit of the threat, supply chains for essentials being disrupted, family disruptions keeping children at home; these game development people work on computers, in offices, so obviously they should be working at home without any sort of delay or setback. Amirite?

I said "nearly no" and you know that this place is fanboy/warrior infested. The most "concerned" people are always those who wouldn't even touch the games/console if you pay them to. I'm pissed myself that Starfield gets delayed, because i already got a new grapics card just for this game. But am i concerned? No. Even if Evil Dead was the last game ever released i would have enough games to play until the rest of my life. Most people here live in a bubble where exclusive games are the most important thing, but in reality they are not. Microsoft, PlayStation and Nintendo all are selling lots of hardware and Microsoft even does so without a single exclusive game.

I hear 'ya; won't pretend there aren't a few people who are probably gleeful about the delays because it lets them console war, but those types are always in the minority and they exist on both sides. Would not really be focused on them tbh.

There are valid concerns to be had with MS's game management, though, and I think no matter how much of a fan you are of them, you have to at least be aware of that fact. The things that affect them, in absolute terms, aren't exclusive to them. The problem is they have a much higher propensity of affecting MS/Xbox more so than other competitors or publishers.

And the reason that's an issue, for me, is because they've been in this industry as a platform holder for over two decades. I would think things like having a consistent flow of platform exclusives (1P or 3P) of AAA status, even with rare events like Covid, would be doable by them at this point. That not putting oddly specific release dates over a year in advance, then doing marketing for a year with video dairies and leading expectation you have a giant gameplay blowout at your showcase, only to then delay said game to a generic time frame of the following year (assumedly because it needs more polish, in which case we probably shouldn't expect much gameplay for it at the showcase), would be avoidable for them a this point.

Some of the things on the corporate & management side just feel like mistakes a first-time platform holder would make, not one who's been in the industry for two decades and has trillions of dollars. People would probably think I'm exaggerating when I say some of these mistakes have shades of the Saturn and 3DO in them (IMO), but that's what it really feels like at times.

That isn't true at all.

Two of the best indie games of the year so far just dropped on Xbox; Rogue Legacy 2 and Tunic (also on Game Pass). Games like Somerville, Slime Rancher 2 and Planet of Lana are still due this year among others.

Xbox has had a very steady stream of fantastic indie games coming out for the platform and Game Pass since launch, I guess it's a shame they don't get the attention they deserve.

The reason those games don't get attention is because MS has a horrible habit of not marketing individual games. It's even kind of a problem with their AAA 1P titles, but even more so with indie exclusives, timed or otherwise.

You might get an initial announce trailer at a showcase, but they lead all of that marketing with GamePass the service. Then maybe closer to release, those indies get a spot in the garbage Twitch ID @ Xbox indie showcase event, then a final trailer (maybe) on the official Xbox YT page. And that's about it.

No really extensive advertising for these games, let alone television spots etc. Seems like they rely a lot on WOM, but the problem too is this same thing's done with 1P titles too. A single trailer for Gears 5 Hivebusters that IIRC had no airtime on cable. Practically zero advertising for Psychonauts 2. I think I saw a Forza Horizon 5 ad on TV once, but can't remember seeing any ads for Halo Infinite specifically. GamePass though? Tons of trailers, tons of ads, commercials so on and so on.

I think MS have a problem of leading with the service when they should be leading with the games, when it comes to marketing & advertising. Ultimately people will buy into the service if they're aware of & interested in the game, but unless you're the type who keeps up with gaming news regularly (which is like maybe 5% of all gamers at most?), you won't know much on a lot of the GamePass indie releases which is already a problem because Xbox has smaller social media presence compared to PlayStation and Nintendo.

Dont play dumb dude. Sony also announces certain games extremely early. Its common for certain types of games.

What makes me think that is they could have waited until e3 to announce delays. They may have something that went unannounced last year due to delays. Not only that but half the first party studios have yet to officially announce a game.

Don't do that it's a bad look for Microsoft. Insomniac studios' game output and quality are pretty high and consistent do not draw an unfair comparison. I really want Microsoft to do well if only to keep Sony honest, competition is good but right now there isn't much to speak of.
I have been Halod, Forzad and Gearsd to death since the damn X360. Literally, not much else, and yes I'm sick of Uncharted and would have been sick of God of war had they not completely changed the formula.
All I know is if I don't see something from avowed or starfield at this damn June even I am not going to "Please be Excited."

Most studios don't announce games before the developers have even decided what genre the game will belong to or really anything other than the title's name.

Seriously, if you want to try to make it sound like Sony isn't releasing games, Insomniac is the LAST developer you want to put a spotlight on.

yes it caused disruptions of coarse, o denying that and yes pandemic. my Mac autocorrected it. my point stands though games were being made when companies were purchased. they weren't just sat on their hands.

Show me where I have been defending ANY publisher announcing games early. Good luck with that.
You're the one who brought up Sony, clearly showing that you're looking at this from a purely Xbox biased perspective, instead of taking what I said at face value. I don't want ANY announcements that are years away. Dragging Sony into the argument is a weak-ass deflection from the topic at hand. No one should be pulling that nonsense.

My head would fucking pop if they lean this hard in to the Halo/Gears/Forza meme in 2022. After having Halo and Forza as their tent pole 2021 releases.

Xbox rejected the possibility for Moon to work on Banjo, initially I thought ‘ok, it’s finally coming from somewhere else’. But then it turned out Mahler was a c u next Tuesday.

Playtonic are due to announce their next project and there’s been rumours one of their 3 games is a Banjo successor but even I acknowledge that that’s just a fans’ wet dream.

That’s not what I’m saying at all.
You’re basically saying people can’t get excited for unreleased games and I’m saying that getting excited for unreleased games is pretty much the standard here. Would it have made you happier if I’d used something like Hogwarts legacy as the example instead?

Not sure why you’re making up entirely unrelated strawman arguments.

I think at this point expecting all of these games this generation seems a bit naive.

Particularly Elder Scrolls 6.
WfN1mdg.gif

Man I wish they wouldn't have even announced it. To be fair I think this generation will last a bit longer due to Covid. We haven't even scratched the surface of what these machines are capable especially seeing as UE5 just released. As much as I hate to admit it that Engine SHOULD change the industry standard and quality by a very large margin.

Starfield better be amazing because it is the reason we'll have waited 20 years for an ES6 lol

I have been wondering why they did that. Why not do what most developers do: show the game first, impress people, and then ask for more time by pushing the release date. That works because people are less critical when they have already seen the awesome thing you're developing. This is exactly how Sony did it too. They showed Horizon Forbidden West's amazing gameplay footage in May 2021 that left everyone in awe. Then announced the delay in August 2021, and while people were sad, it wasn't a huge issue.

The only reason I can think of why they announced the delay now and not after showing the game is that perhaps they won't show Starfield and Redfall during the June 12 showcase. If they aren't showing the games, they can't use that strategy. And they couldn't announce the delay after the showcase either because everyone would have been expecting Starfield and Redfall on June 12, and suddenly not showing them then would be a marketing disaster.

They’ll have to show both games. Starfield especially. Because this is pretty much the last major Showcase before the game releases, unless they’re pushing the ‘H1 2023’ to the limit.

Thankfully, their delay note says Gameplay deep dive is ‘coming soon’, so it’s a likely lock for the june 12 showcase.

They will have more opportunities this year, just in case they don't show it on June 12: Gamescom in August, TGA in December, etc. They could also organize their own gameplay deep dive ala Nintendo Direct just for Starfield.

Speculation on my part but I can’t see Starfield launching in H1. MS like to have their big game come out around Christmas. It’s always been their way. I suspect Redfall in June 23, Starfield Oct 23.

That holiday would be avowed, maybe fable. And hell blade 2.

Starfield would mess up those games.

No chance.

In normal non-Covid times it would be believable that Obsidian might be able to get Avowed ready for next year. Now? I’d be surprised.

Fable is 2024 or beyond for sure.

Only fable is a doubt. But avowed and hell blade 2 have high chance of late 2023.
