I'm torn. I love Elden Ring so much, but the game is just too big. I prefer the whole build diversity in souls / elden ring more than I do in Bloodborne, but Bloodborne is much more replayable compared to Elden Ring.

Bloodborne is tight. Elden Ring is free. Both are amazing. Elden Ring actually pushes the gaming medium forward, though. So I have to say Elden Ring if I had to choose.

Elden ring by virtue of being an expansive open world with a shitton to do. But BB is still a second best for me. (BB never getting any kind of updates for the pro or 5 also hurts it a bit for me)
You knew this one was coming
Well no shit it was coming, everyone and their grandma keeps making elden ring threads. This topic was inevitable in a sea of related threads

I love Bloodborne's aesthetic SO much, but I love Elden Ring's gameplay mechanics. When you play a game, you, well, play it. So I think that improvements in mechanics and gameplay trump over everything. Jumping alone is just one thing, and it's huge TBH. Gotta say ER in the long run.

As someone who's played all of Fromsoft's soulsborne games since Demon's Souls on the PS3 which I had to get imported because it didn't come out in the UK for almost a year after its initial release, I am going to put my vote behind Elden Ring. I'm a big fan of Bloodborne and it pushed me to dive into Lovecraft and all of the horrific majesty involved there, but the dark high fantasy of Elden Ring scratches an itch for me that so far has only been reached by Berserk.

Bloodborne.

Elden Ring was great the first playthrough but I got turned off by its massive size. Bloodborne felt like a much more tighter experience with awesome level design, cool weapons and fantastic story and lore. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft and the game was basically a love letter to him and his works. Bloodborne is the definition of quality over quantity. Elden Ring is vice versa.

Elden Ring. 90 hours played so far and my GOTY. Definitely my favorite FROM game as well. Love it 🥰

Bloodborne, I jumped in late after listening to years of hype but the frame stutter annoyed me and it just didn’t hook me enough to keep going. I have only played maybe 5 hours though so can’t do any deeper analysis, would probably jump in again on a slick Bluepoint remake, loved their Demon’s Souls remake.

I have been playing Elden Ring lately, and I just don't like the open world aspect. But the game is FULL of content, tons of bosses, great build variety, and it's definitely the one with most players right now. That being said, Elden Ring.

Dark Souls 3 >>> Elden Ring / Demon's Souls >>> Sekiro / Bloodborne >>> Dark Souls 1 >>> Dinasty Warriors >>> Dark Souls 2

Horse double jumping. That’s enough of a revolution for me.

I'm still waiting for the guy who has never played Bloodborne but picked up Elden Ring because his favourite Twitch Streamer played it to answer. Something tells me your answer is going to be better anyways.

Dark souls 2. Ok and bb. Curated carefully prepared and balanced content wins.
I don’t believe er honey moon is not over.
Bosses suck ass, magic galore, repeated bosses and enemies many times. 13 erdtree avatars which is ds1 boss for example.

The balance is out the window. The level design is out the windows. I have a lot of gripes with the game despite being my goty. I just think it’s a step in the wrong direction. And the story could be so interesting…

Watch these. Good summary of why open world is not the best thing here.

And more on combat

The input reading is hilarious sometimes, npc invaders will always without fail run up to hit if you use a flask.

Bloodborne is the tighter game with superior combat

Elden Ring is a great open world game but isn’t as consistent, and the diverse combat options and hyper aggressive bosses aren’t as satisfying to defeat since it mostly ends up requiring luck or OP

I put reading was always there but I never noticed it like here. It’s so bad.
But the worst is weird balance and how huge the game is. Of course it is if every enemy is boss 3 times in different configurations. If there are 5 to 10 of each bosses repeats.
The game is huuuuge repeat.
And the quest suffer greatly because of open world.

Elden Ring suffers from being a bit long in the tooth, with some of the later areas being "meh", and Bloodborne is a very focused, very lean on filler content. That said, Elden Ring has insane build variety if you aren't worried about meta bleed builds and stuff like that, and just an insane amount of content and enemy types. Bloodborne also only has really 1 type of gameplay style - agile, duck in/duck out, counter with guns when you can.

For me, Elden Ring slightly edges out the win, but I could see anybody voting either way.

Voted Elden Ring, but Dark Souls is the greatest. Always will be.

No other Souls game comes close to the eerie, forlorn atmosphere. Absolute masterpiece and (in my humble opinion) one of the few times that a game has approached the status of art.

That said, does drag after the chuckle brothers.

Honorable mention to DS3, which never gets enough love.

Game should have had more fat trimmed. Everything after Morgott feels like padding. I like open world games too and even it was too much for me.
