Forspoken, the upcoming game from Square Enix has been rated in Europe by PEGI, and has received an 18 rating.

According to the rating board, this is due to the “use of strong language (‘f**k’), as well as milder terms,” as well as violence, both realistic and in the fantasy setting.

The use of alcohol and the inclusion of in-game purchases are also cited as reasons for the rating. “The player’s character can order alcoholic drinks at a bar. The drinks affect the player’s statistics, but do so in a random manner with negative outcomes possible,” claims the PEGI website.

According to PEGI, “the game also includes scenes of realistic violence, including a woman being set upon by a group of thugs who punch and kick her and hold a gun to her head. There is also violence against fantasy characters, who are knocked backwards by attacks and bleed yellow blood.”

The rating board also highlights that at one point in the game, it appears that the main character plans to drunkenly take her own life, before being saved by a mysterious entity.

Announced in June 2020, Forspoken is the debut game from Square’s Luminous Productions studio. It will reportedly be a PlayStation console exclusive for two years.

The lead character Frey is portrayed by English actress Ella Balinska, who is known for starring in 2019 film Charlie’s Angels.

Following a delay, the game will now release on October 11, 2022.

In VGC’s recent preview, we said that Forspoken had the chance to be a “PS5 showpiece”.

“Coming from the team behind Final Fantasy XV, which revolutionised Final Fantasy combat, by making it actually fun to play is a great sign. The various abilities that have been teased in the footage seem to point to a game with a lot of variety, but how much of that will make into the final experience is yet to be seen.”

Why would you put Micro transactions in a game like this. Doesn't surprise me Square Enix would do something like this. It is almost like they are trying to let their fail. Are they that obsessed with getting into NFT's that they will abandon all sense? Despite my criticism of what I've seen, I was hoping this game would surprise me, but I'm even more skeptical.

Tales of Arise has MTX... you can buy game currency, xp boosts and whatnot. It's very easy to make MTX for SP games. AC games also have MTX. But MTX doesn't make or break a game. It depends on the implementation.

Part of me wants this to succeed. FFXV team, new IP.

But they haven't sold me just yet. But SQEX marketing can be notoriously ineffective. Didn't do justice to Triangle Strategy or Guardians of the Galaxy. I'll be waiting to hear player impressions for sure. Soonest I'd jump in is $60. $70 is a non-starter for me.

You mean a single player game? In game purchases might mean FFXV like episodes.

MTX are never a good thing. They were not a good thing in Tales nor in any other singleplayer triple a priced game. Defending MTX is an idiot's adventure, that which I do not respect.
Fuck off. As long as it's optional is not a problem at all. Arise has it and it's not needed at all, unless you're lazy. MTX is for lazy people. Now stop acting like a dick.

I may have jumped the gun a bit, but while these things don't necessarily break the game, having stuff like XP boosts and in game currency tell me the game is probably a chore to play without paying extra. I did kind of like how the EXP DLC pack for SMTIV was handled. I didn't break the game and made the pacing much better but did trivialize some of the challenges. I really like how TLOU Part 2 handles difficulty and options with various sliders all for free. I've been wanting to get Tales of Arise really bad and it seems the MTX are in the same vein as SMTIV and V.

Yes, in single player games it doesn't make as much sense to me. I don't have as big of an issue with episodic content, although I think FFXV was heavily mismanaged, and those episodes were a result of that rather than something that made sense. You also had to buy the movie, watch 5 anime episodes, and play a shoddy mobile game to also get the full story. I enjoyed the LiS games and depending on how FF7 Remake goes, I don't see that as a huge issue either if each segment feels complete.

Hating it on principle is meaningless at this point. We're getting it whether you like it or not, so how about we just see HOW it's being put in the game before completely shitting the bed.

Glad its got a hard rating.
Hopefully it means there some real stakes and action in the game.
I just hope they have the PC port working well at launch cuz im fully planning on getting this day one on PC.

Prequel chapter DLC. - Pretty much confirmed.
Extra chapter DLC.
Cosmetics for the fools fans DLC.
White Male Skin to cater to those so scared of black females.

Single player games can have alot of in game purchases and while I love the idea of getting expansions for free....I live in the real world....few games are gonna give us new SP chapters and DLC for free.

You havent liked any DLC expansions ever?
So would have rather The Witcher 3 be delayed until Blood and Wine was ready for them to release the game? Like a year later?

Expansion is not the same as microtransaction my dude. Emphasis on the word micro.

It never is. The fight will always go on.

Arise isn't. The game has a nice pacing for getting xp and you can get boost your xp earning using food in game. The MTX is clearly for lazy peole.
It's always a problem.
If you're lazy, sure. I've never bought or felt tempted by MTX in my life so I really don't care about them.

What makes you think this game has micro transactions?
And when does a transaction go from being a micro transaction to "just a" transaction for content?

The description says:
This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items, in the form of downloadable content packs, which some parents or carers may want to be aware of.

Those Downloadable Content Packs could be new chapters or new regions right?

I don't understand...Nothing in the OP seems to me to guarantee the Pegi 18. Both the foul languange and the violence seems pretty mild. From theexample in that list, I would expect a Pegi 16 maximum

In-game purchases are 99% of the time microtransactions. Considering this is Square Enix, I highly doubt the in-game purchases are huge expansions for the game, at fucking launch rofl. Cmon. If you wanna suck Square Enix's balls at least do it better.

Probably the protagonist being suicidal.
And the liberal use of swearing.
And the liberal use of alcohol.

Combine them all and PEGI might think its too much for a 16 years old.

Self harm and suicide actually carry quite a heavy toll in the PEGI rating....heck pretty much every ratings board is very heavy on suicidal story telling.
Even on TV these days if a show/movie has any sort of suicidal connotations its rating immediately goes up and a trigger warning is mandated.

If a game is planned to get any DLC they have to disclose that to PEGI which is why games get the in game purchases rating even if the DLC will only show up months for now.
Final Fantasy XV got how many chapters?....And who made that game again?
And we already know that Forspoken is getting a prequel chapter.
In Tantas we trust DLC is slated for Winter 2022.

How am I sucking balls when Square have already announced a DLC chapter which is why im assuming a DLC chapter will show up?

Mate grow up.

King of Gaslighting
Whining about MTX (posting dick-sucking gifs) is just as embarrassing as moaning about the cost of a large popcorn at the movies: that fight is long over and you can just walk right by the concession stand to enjoy your flick. Or go on a forum and posture about being so principled that you wont even bother with a game that has MTX regardless of how it is implemented into the finished product. Both equally fine and noble actions.

. . .also an 18 for MTX?! They really take that shit seriously I guess.

ugh Jesus. In-game purchases and future possible expansions are not in the same bucket. Also stop changing the words, DLC can also be classified as mtx or as expansion. We'll see when it launches.
