Is anyone else experiencing exactly the same passion for gaming as always?

I've seen both sides, but I gotta say, the old days and the new days are both equally great for me. With the PS5, and upcoming hard hitters like FFXVI, GoW, Dead Space, etc, it's feeling like I'm 10 all over again. I'm not like pants dripping NOTHING ELSE MATTERS GAMES NAO, but my drive has remained consistent! GAF?

This is actually what I was trying to say

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
One of the best parts about gaming is that old games are still fun. The more time that passes, the more choices you have and the better chance you have of finding a game that really clicks with you. I play "new" games (aka games I've never personally played) all the time that came out for the SNES, or DS, or Sega CD.

If you don't like the "modern trends" in gaming, you don't have to follow them.

It's lost the big hype that it used to have, particularly surrounding game reveals and events like E3. I blame a lot of that on just not giving a shit about the console wars any more. Once you can afford everything, who cares about that?

A lot of my favorite game series and developers are either dead or have been wrecked beyond recognition. But there is always fresh blood coming into the industry and new games to try, so i've not fallen out of love with gaming at all. Sometimes you just need to get out of your comfort zone. We get not only about the same amount of new good games coming out every year, but the backlog / favorites pile is forever growing.

We're seeing constantly evolving technology too. Not only the obvious advancements in terms of power and visuals, but also in preserving the past. Emulation just gets better and better, and is supported by more devices than ever. I have my whole SNES library on like five different devices now. And we even have FPGA devices that now offer us identical clones to the original consoles, except more comfortable and convenient to use.

Speaking of convenience, that is the real breakthrough this gen. Things like Game Pass are a complete no-brainer. People in the N64 days, paying out the ass for one game cart, would think you were insane if you said you could play literally 100s of top games for an entire year, for not much more money.

I am more picky with games than when I was younger, but when I find something I like I am as happy as ever

Less than during Covid but I still play from time to time, although longer games has been drastically reduced.

So I guess this is the new GAF trend? One person makes a thread, then a bunch of copycats post opposite threads spamming up the front page?

Ah yes, I don't like fun and gaming is serious.

Careful everyone. There's a very sharp edge here, I wouldn't want of you guys to get cut.

There's actually been some good discussion here. If you have an issue with it, report it, or whatever. If a mod has an issue with it, they'll remove it. I promise, this, too, will pass.

I’m getting that vibe whenever I think about The Callisto Protocol and Dead Space. Live-A-Live, Dragon Quest III Remastered, Front Mission Remastered, and potentially Final Fantasy XVI. Things aren’t looking down to me.

Yeah, I feel the exact same way. I can't really think of a console gen where I didn't find an adequate amount of things worthy of my time. There were no dark ages for me, as there were for some. I had the benefit of starting during the 64/PS1 era, too, so I had the entire Super NES and NES library to dive into. I never had the means to get into Sega stuff, and now that I do, I'm inundated with a more contemporary backlog, but maybe one of these days.

Our passion for gaming burns roaringly still, it is the industry that has become an utter disappointment (politics, feminism, allegations, live service etc.)
Couldn't have put it better myself. Games are as amazing as they ever were, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hate the goddamn industry now and find the vast majority of upcoming titles to be uninteresting cookie cutter garbage designed by committee to do nothing more than check boxes and be as safe as possible. I miss when the industry was absolutely filled to the brim with risks, ideas, innovation, and ingenuity. The 90's and 2000's were amazing years for gaming, and I still find myself preferring those titles.

Halcyon days.

These types of counter reactionary threads are kind of cringe. It feels like the people that make them are personally offended or something.

Counter reactionary? That's the coolest thing one of my threads has ever been called.

Nah, if you want to really be let in on the magic, the man behind the curtain, if you will...

I saw two threads about losing enthusiasm about gaming/gaming related topics, and I was like "Oh, that sucks, but I don't feel the same way. But it's cool that people have different opinions,"

And then I saw another thread stating the complete opposite, and I was like "Oh, I don't feel the same way, but that's damned funny,"

Thus my middle ground lulz thread was born, we've had a nice little engagement about the industry both backwards and forwards (a take that I think was absent in my left and right thread counterparts, thus legitimizing it's existence!) And we had it fly over a couple of people's heads and a few others were in the "if you know you know," crowd, and I even made someone else bitter because they don't appreciate my admittedly simple sense of humor when it comes to the creation and cultivation of threads! I mean, this thread is pretty much like one of those cheesecake samplers in the frozen foods aisle. IT'S GOT EVERYTHING.

"as always" I don't know. But it mostly because I don't have a lot of free time, so I'm constant playing and thinking about making food or cleaning

I don't feel like I like games any less, I'm just a lot more demanding. There are way too many shitty games that aren't worth anyone's time out there and relative few must play games in comparison.

It's very different from how it was in the 90s and early 2000s where in pretty much every year you had completely revolutionary games, that would create new genres or really take things to another level.

Now it's more about refinement than anything else and I still get hyped for games I'm confident will be special.

Love it 💙

Only issue I have nowadays is that I think it’s harder and more time consuming to pick out the quality because there’s more crap flooding the market.

If anything, I've played a little more recently than I had been. Likely because of GP and the recommendations and discussions about different games that I've seen here.

I enjoy gaming, but I enjoy it for many reasons, and not always the same reasons all the time. Sometimes it is a good distraction, other times it is just a fun time, and sometimes I get to bond with my kids through it.

I still enjoy games. I think not quite to the same degree as my 15 years old self (now 28), but yeah, I very much enjoy them.

Currently playing through Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves on RPCS3 (a port of a PS2 game on PS3, running at 4K60). I never played this series. I have no nostalgia for it. But I missed the platformer craze of PS2 exclusive titles, so I'm playing them now. They're great games. Very smooth, very chill.

It depends on what games you play. I mostly never play multiplayer games.

I find myself into that good old feeling of discovery and awe when I hear about a great new AA or Indie game nowadays, I think that answer your question, OP.

It's a territory where I think devs take more risks, and try to innovate much more so that fuels my passion about them.

I definitely do not have the patience like when I was younger. Repeating sequences in games more than a couple of times does my nut in and so it gets uninstalled and I move onto the next one. I probably spend more time reading about games and participating in discussion on here than playing them but I still get excited. Right now, I'm very excited to be able to play Spider-man, Returnal, AC Valhalla, Kingdoms of Amalur, Batman: Return to Arkham on PS+ in a month.

Yep, me too, I just don’t have enough time to play as much.

I enjoy playing games as ever, but i used to play much more multiplayer in my young years and i generally play less. Sometimes not for a full month.
I also often enjoy older games more than newer games. RTS, 90s shooters, old Nintendo stuff, p&p adventures, management simulations. No tutorial, not too much story or videos, no huge map full of "work", no farming. Just start and play.

I enjoy gaming the same as I ever did. What has changed is that games do not captivate and hold my attention as much, I've pretty much seen and done it all so little surprises me or hooks me in like it used to when I was younger. As I have become older and more experienced, I end up gravitating towards games that do not waste my time with average experiences since my time is precious and limited. Being an adult sucks.

I am more into gaming news and this community than actually playing games.
I think gaming culture has evolved in a direction that is not for me since I am not into streaming nor competitive gaming.
I tried watching a twitch stream or two but just found the whole thing brain cell destroying with all the "online speak" and memes that I do not follow nor care for.
