UPDATE: Jason Scheier and other insider sources say the game was delayed internally, but still aimed for 2022.

Gamereactor reports that they confirmed it by multiple european outlets:

Although it seemed closer than imaginable based on its registration with rating agencies and other databases (as close as September), God of War: Ragnarök will finally hit physical and digital shelves on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2023. The delay, which has yet to be made official by Sony, has been confirmed by various European sources to Gamereactor.

PSA: Still take this as a rumor or until bigger news sources report it too.

Fine by me. Gotta dig through that backlog anyway.

they never announced a release date and this is not official. I’d wait for the official release date before outraging and even then… who cares?
They did, 2022. Then they said on multiple occasions that the game was still coming out in 2022 despite it not looking like it would due to the complete lack of info.

edit: Correction, they announced it as a 2021 game. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Officially? Nah. Either way, I don’t care. I’m not going to waste my time being mad at this.

I'm a bit surprised because it looked like an old school sequel - and by that I mean lots of reused assets. That's the way things always used to be.

Triple AAA game development timescales really have changed a lot in the last ten years.

We will know this week or next week if this leak is true.

I was expecting a delay to be honest. And with Naughty Dog now being moved up to this fall for a release it makes sense. I was still holding out for DECEMBER.

From the gameplay that was shown, it does seem to have a lot of reused assets but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I wonder what the delay means in terms of development. Probably just perfection, knowing the developer and the quality of God of War.

If we're being fair, we should probably have 6 weeks of threads about how Sony project management is incompetent, just like that Starfield delay lol. And this game has ALREADY been delayed if I remember correctly. I've lost count.
I get the reference but that’s not fair at all, MS hasn’t released a single game this year and we still don’t know if they’ll do that, Sony on the other hand has released Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, UC Legacy of Thieves and might release TLOU remake too in 2022 if rumours are to be believed,

uses 'M$' - What year is it? Not 2002.

Not official yet. But unless Game Reactor Spain and other Euro game sites are lying, looks like GOW delayed.

The most obvious delay out of all big name games. Even bolder was the claim it was a 2021 game from the first logo snippet shown in the PS5 2020 show.

Originally slated for a 2021 release, the game was delayed in part due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on development, and also because of Kratos actor Christopher Judge's health problems in August 2019.

By February 2021, neither Sony nor the game's developer, Santa Monica Studio, had given any updates regarding the game's release, prompting Cory Barlog to tweet that the game would be out "when it's done".[17] In June 2021, head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, stated that Sony had decided to delay the game until 2022 "to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play"
