Looks like CoD Warzone 2 is cross gen, coming 2022

Blog post says the “all new” Warzone is coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year.

Development on an all-new, dynamic Warzone experience is also being led by Infinity Ward along with Raven Software. The new, free-to-play battle royale Warzone also features the same technology powering Modern Warfare II, so both titles leverage the Call of Duty engine that first debuted with Modern Warfare (2019), providing the most seamless and advanced Call of Duty experiences ever.

The new: Warzone is scheduled for release later this year on PS5 and PS4.

Whart differences would you of expected if it wasnt cross gen?. I mean it wasn't going to change into Pandora level graphics from AVATAR if it was current gen only.
I dont know where people get these wild expectations from, especially after haing 2+ years of cross gen games last gen.

Better physics, more destruction, etc..

The map could be significantly more complex, diverse, and large if it was designed for SSDs, and it would also open up a lot more travel options (including faster vehicles). Also you wouldn't need to have to sit through minutes of pre-match crap to give everyone time to load in.

Not being cross gen means take advantage of the extra CPU, faster storage and more modern features the new consoles possess.
It means not targeting the 2013 Xbox One with 1.3Tflop GPU and DDR3 memory.

Yes you do, even an SSD from the future wont speed that up when the game is dealing with match making, your level and region. Doesn't matter what tech you got the waiting will forever be there.

I really dont k ow what you expect from the map diversity wise...both warzone maps are massive with insane amount of buildings. The map wont just expand to infinity. Current map is so massive already and all that at 60fps.

Considering how much money Warzone has made, and the attention it gets from various platforms I'm not sure why this is so surprising to people. They want that money, so they'll gonna deliver it on whatever platforms they can.

ok, why not just update warzone.

Because they already did that twice and it is a cluster fuck was 170 different guns which is a balancing nightmare and based on the old engine. They need a clean slate, it already wasn't intended to be a multiyear game.

Why would it carry over? This isn't a new season, its a new game. You really still want Cold War and Vanguard shit in here?
IMO, if it was next gen only then by all means start clean with no carry over. But cross gen and no carry over strikes me as "and its gone" behavior.

Im all for a clean slate. And a new rebirth map, thats all I ask.

Surprised they've not spun it off into its own thing, miles better than the vanilla BR, or just a mode within MWII with multiple maps.

I legitimately think it's because they've messed up OG Warzone so bad by stitching update upon update on top of something in a way it wasn't built for. Weird-ass glitches everywhere that takes them weeks to fix. My guess is they're starting with a "clean slate" knowing what they know now and focusing on what will aid longevity and stability.

My friends and I have been playing BR for about two years now, and we only just recently got into Rebirth. So good. It takes everything fun and intense about BR and compresses it in both map scope and time. Encounters occur more frequently and rounds are quicker.

Yup, its fantastic. I know its very popular with the players. If they expanded on that mode on included it with the base game instead of ,or not whatever, they'd scope up even more $$$$. OR just gave us more maps. Rebirth mode requires a smaller map, less dev time, more fun for us. Use these bigger maps they've reported that are coming with MWII. Anything lol.

Rebirth mode in particular is the best shooter i've played in ages. I hadn't played COD since the old days but this along with Warzone before it brought me right back. Love it. Someone will copy it sooner or later and scoop up if they don't give it some proper love.

And like you said above, with the 3 games warzone is a bit messy, they should have dropped the guns from the previous release . I know why they didn't but shits fucked up right now. Clean slate, 2 years until the next game. If they nail it MWII and Warzone 2 give it time to breathe this could really shine.

Did people actually think it wouldn’t be? They want the game on as many things as possible to get those sweet sweet micro transactions

Cross Gen again ?!!

When is this going to end?!
When there's about tripple the amount of new consoles in the wild.

Ya'll wanted backwards compatibility, longer cross gen is a side effect of that IMO. Too easy now just to up the res and frame rates, push them sliders a bit to the right and call it a day.

I haven’t played Vanguard, but I did play some of Cold War Black Ops and didn’t really like it. The last CoD I liked was Modern Warfare, so a sequel to that is music to my ears. I’ll be picking it up even though I’ll get slaughtered online like always. 😆

I thought there was a rumour WZ2 was next gen only. Guess not.

Makes sense. Hardly any next gen consoles out there. Probably what 35M PS5/Series in the wild?

Maybe WZ3 in a few years will be next gen only.

Global chip shortage is to blame for the long cross gen just as much as backwards compatibility and the standardization of architectures.

See as sales are not that far off the pace of last gen, i'd argue otherwise. Development for most of these games started way before the chip shortage really bit.

For the record I hate backwards compatibility. I buy new consoles to play new games. Not old shit. So for me I'm all too happy to see the end of this cross gen BS.
The sooner the better.

They probably changed their mind when fuck all next gen consoles were being produced.
