...ouch.

public alpha sign up if you care: www.playhyenas.com

So instead of this:

Alien-Isolation-2.jpg

We get this:

HYENAS-Ann-Inits_06-22-22.jpg

A paint by numbers, diversity/woke checklist pile of hot garbage I'll never play.

The Youtube comments section(if not turned off) along with dislikes should be entertaining.

How the hell does Sega still have an "ALIEN" license btw? Hopefully it runs out soon?! They got the license back in 2006.

CliffyB realizing someone is trying to copy his billion dollar Lawbreakers franchise idea:

Can’t believe CA, one of my favorite studios for strategy games, would try to push out a turd like this. I’d play the Saints Row reboot over this.

We posted a similar post at the same time 🤣

This thread is so cringe.

People freaking out over a non gameplay trailer because...checks notes...multiplayer + art direction.

Casual status building.
Because when you get into a repetitive trend where toughts start to be confirmed with the game's release, you know it's no longer somone being on a poor coincidence but deliberate, as a dogwhistle. Notice that i'm very open to anything but at this point these games are very corporate driven.

No.

. . .also, why would someone be wearing a "Tricky Dick" Nixon mask in the future? Do modern gamers even know who this guy is beyond maybe FUTURAMA and/or hearing their name mentioned during (at this point) overused references to Watergate on Twitter?

Probably a Point Break reference.

Oh. Okay that would make sense. . .and be absolutely hilarious if an artist on this was referencing a movie that referenced a bad politician, instead of referencing a bad politician (Nixon masks I feel like are fairly ubiquitous in "heist" movies, like Point Break).

The gang in the film were called the ex-presidents, they all wore different masks. I guess it is a cliché now, but so is the "Alien".

This is why video games as a medium will never be art: you have immensely talented people who are forced to work on popular trash.
At this point every talented team should just join forces and become independant. I mean, that way there is still a high chance to become successful. They could also start with smaller projects and work their way up, if they're having trouble gathering the right amounts of funding. Wouldn't that be cool? You'd be free from your greedy, soulless, industry-trends-chasing publishers.

Game doesn't look too bad. I guess from the companys perspective, this hero-shooter-multiplayer-gaas-mtx-br thing makes sense. I immediately ask myself what the money spent on this could have accomplished otherwise. Something Shining, Crazy Taxi, Altered Beast, Border Break, Condemned, Dragon Force, Ecco, Fighting Vipers, Golden Axe, Herzog, Otogi, Phantasy Star, Sega Rally, Shinobi, Spikeout, Thunder Force ...

I thought that too. An OTT BR Crazy Taxi could actually be good.

I do like the art style, I guess I'll see what it turns into.

But then this forum and other social media sites wouldn't pay attention to their projects or worse yet, call their hard work 'a waste of time' or 'filler' during big showcases. There's no winning either way.

Why do they think this will be successful? Why not play Fortnite instead?
This looks like it’s going to sink. There’s only a certain amount of these games that will be successful.

I don’t think they asked themselves the right amount of questions before financially funding this game and it shows.

There is no "trend" as you see it.

We all complain about CGI trailers because they all tell us so little about the gameplay. However, as soon as it's a CGI trailer for a multiplayer game we hear the moaning of casuals because their magic 8 ball apparently understands how it will play.

Also, I find it hilarious to hear the "market tested, corporate driven" design complaint as if that isn't just as prevalent in the AAA single player space. As if the 200 million dollar single player games are all made by French auteurs.

Please. It’s been said to have been in development since 2018. They could’ve shown gameplay in this reveal, but chose to just talk about gameplay “elements” that have been littered throughout similar games for years.

And I don’t want to hear about covid either. I’m sure they could’ve constructed something better than this for generic edgy shooter the game.

How did dollar store children's costumes, unathletic and androgenous bodies, ugly visages, overdone party make up come to define video game fashion for young adults? Fortnight is cartoony, but every game has come since has gone to unlikable extremes, is this what kids think is attractive, or what the suits thinks kids will like? Why does it feel like Ru Paul's Drag Race and Influencer aesthetics thrown in a blender?

You go from making Alien:Isolation, a truly unique and terrifying horror game that still till this day stands against games in the same genre, to just another generic cash grab battle royale game that will get lost in a sea of other games chasing the same moneybag, sad.
It's still terrifying, just in other ways.

I don't get it... were the last batch of game devs (folks in their mid 20's through early 30s) breastfed with varnish and WD40 instead of milk or formula? How can they release something like this

We need a new version of this video. Back then the plague was the military FPS. Now its the generic MP cartoony "United colours of Benneton" non offensive shooter.

Nah, I'm not buying this.

They said they were inspired by Battle Royale, with their asymmetrical engagements and high degree of variance...which is basically brand new thing in the industry.

We've choked on team based arena shooters for 30 years now and this game seems to be leaving that formula in the past. BR has been the most recent monumental shift in the industry and THANK GOD the this team seems to appreciate that fact.

This thread is just filled with multiplayer whiners who have almost certainly complained about every smash success multiplayer game released over the last 5 years.

As I said, it feels very casual in tone. It's not art direction over gameplay...it's gameplay over art direction.

Hey, I hope you get a lot of mileage out of it. I feel like it’ll be fairly mediocre. If it comes out and blows everyone away, I’ll stand corrected.

There's a trend, this game tick all boxes

1) cartoony colorful purple? check
2) battle royale and other today's trendy done to death stuff? check
3) bland characters? check

Just like Arena Shooters were trends from 99 to mid 00s, this is now the current trend and its tired by this point just like the genre I metioned, only Fortnite and Apex Legends are alive and that's because the devs were on time and knew what people wanted, even Blizzard at their current awful state at least managed to show Diablo 4 for a positive reception and the latest trailer for OW2 was at least something well done to walk through the graveyard it has been the last two or three years.

I'm a very open person, but I know when it gets too much "out of touch" and getting a very comittee feeling done for an attempt to have a security finance position, which honestly CA doesn't need to do it like that as their Total War games franchise are major yearly pillars for Sega. Devs keep missing what made success cases... successful.
