Unskippable end credits

Anyone else get annoyed at this? You've taken the time to complete a game, you probably enjoyed it if you completed it. Then you are forced to sit through roughly 3 minutes of names of people you probably don't know or care about knowing. Especially beyond the first 30 seconds to a minute and just listing play testers and translators etc. No disrespect intended.

Now I respect the time and work Devs put into a good game, but not giving me the option to skip, is definitely a pet peeve of mine.

It's not a huge deal, obviously... and it doesn't happen often.

It's not so bad if they have made the effort to stylise the credits with illustrations/theming/doodles whatever. Something other than just scrolling white text on a black background. But even then I'd appreciate the option to skip.

If not, and unskippable, you are just going to make me to put my controller down and look at my phone for 3 minutes till the credits end. That's the reality for a lot of people I'd guess?

I know, I know, it's trivial in the grand scheme of things. But it happened again recently and it ever so slightly took the shine off completing a game I really enjoyed playing. Just a bit.

I also tried to think of an original idea for a new thread on this forum that hasn't been made before.

Do I seem ungrateful to the devs?

Disrespectful to the game studio?

Or is it a universal truth that all games should have the option to skip end credits?

Thoughts on this highly important issue facing gaming today!?

I'd even settle for a speed up credit roll button prompt at the minimum!

Press the PS/Xbox button, close the game and restart it if you want to skip it. On PC just close the game and restart it.

Not sure what the big deal is here.
I wouldn't want to risk missing a cutscene at the end, and or a screen explaining some info I'd otherwise miss. Maybe stats on my play session, or intro to new game plus.

After investing what can be a lot of time playing and completing a game, I want to ensure I don't have to re-do anything, and I want to ensure I see everything. Just not the end credits!

What recent games do this?

Yeah, it's an issue with narcissistic devs. Fortunately, most devs aren't dicks and let gamers skip the end credits.

I couldn't imagine watching a movie in the cinema, and not being able to walk out until the credits ended.
I take it you don't watch Marvel movies. I mean sure you can leave but then you'd miss the secret mid and end credit scenes.

I like how a lot of games took credits out of the end and make them available up front. For those that have unskippable credits, if there is nothing good after them, I will be pissed

I always watch them because Im afraid I'll miss the achievement or trophy lol.
Yup. Same here. Well, if I can't skip them. Sometimes I'll watch pretty credits that make an effort as previously stated though!

Nobody saves the world, I believe. I have completed a few games recently. The aforementioned game, Yoku's island express, Tunic and guardians of the galaxy. Think it was Nobody saves the world. But I'm sure that can't be the only example of recent games not giving players the option? Anyone else know of any?

I had my power go out during the end credits for yakuza kiwami 2 and had to redo the last mission.
Yeah that's silly of the game to not save before the credits roll but it happens. Another reason they should be skippable!

I have seen a handful of them. But I don't care much about them.
It would be very annoying to have to slog through several minutes of credits to watch an extra minute of film.
Those I have seen, I've seen them at home and just fast forwarded, skipping the credits.

it should be unskippable only the first time. All other times you should be able to skip it.
So you think all credits should be unskippable first play through? Damn!

Cheers for contributing but I respectfully disagree because of all I said in my OP, but also I think that's no good just because how useful would that be in practice due to how many people play through a game twice? Must be the minority surely? But I wonder how much of one.

Sounds like a punishment for a lot of people! Sadist ;)

Reason I ask is most of the games ive completed recently either have a roll credits option in the menu separate from the game, a skip prompt or press up to quickly.
I actually cant think of any recent games off head that forced me through the credits....either that or I was going through a huge adrenaline dump so didnt even care that the credits were rolling.

Im genuinely curious if games still force the credits on you.

Wouldnt most AAA titles have 1 hour long credits when you consider all the outsourcing, which is why more games just have a roll credits option in the menu.

I always watch them thoroughly and kinda get annoyed of they're not made with care.

Credits are, like, the final closure. If i just skip them i feel like i didn't really do anything, it's just another session.

It's like climbing in assassin's creed 2 and look only for the next objective instead of taking time to enjoy the scenery.

Also, sometimes credits music can be hugely surprising, like in the case of Mass Effect or Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Maybe that's me.

I think that's fair. Makes sense. Well I hope more games make an effort to have pretty credits and decent music, if indeed you sit through it every time.

If I can skip I don't do it right away...I wait to get a feel of the credits, music etc. then skip after a minute say...it depends. I guess I could miss a new, previously unheard of music track potentially, on some games.

You are probably right...it's probably more indie games and it's probably increasingly rare to find a game with credits you can't skip, thankfully!

Sadly, personally, I have a backlog with games going back to the OG xbox. Played and completed psychonaughts for example, the first time, just before the sequel released. Oh well. I'm sure I'll find a way to survive. Worse problems to have!

If you did play the first mass effect and didn't listen to the credits music, make yourself a favour and look for it on YouTube :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I don't mind the ones where it recaps the story or shows epilogue still images while they play. But in general if I see unskippable end credits Alt+F4 then uninstall.

That's next after elden ring. Well its that or lost in random. The trilogy remaster on Gamepass is installed, ready to play on my Series X. Will be first time playing any mass effect game. I know, I know!

I'll remember your advice about the credits. Thanks! 👍

Noticed this the other day on completing Lost Legacy on the Legacy of Thieves collection.

Thought it a bit odd- I assumed unskippables where a thing of the past (especially with big hitters like Naughty Dog).

Simply Yes!, no one ever reads them, too many names to remember and you should always be able to skip them, they go on for ages.

Not really that different. You can turn the game off whenever, but you may miss post-game scene or NG+, etc. Movies now frequently put a post-credits scene which require you to sit through the credits just to find out if it exists or not.

Too platinum / 100% The Quarry you need to have roughly 3-4 full playthrough, and they didn't let you skip a single cutscene, plus you have to sit through the 20 min long ending credits everytime, it drives me crazy. I mean come on, this is a interactive cinematic game, like 80% of the game is cutscenes.

Uncharted 4 fcking ruined my speedrun (for the trophy) I hate it so much that you cant skip it. Its just insanely especially when it affects a trophy.

I always watch end credits but there should be a skip option for people who don't want to.

Cutscenes should always have a hold-to-skip option, especially if I've already seen them. In most games, including story-driven games, the "story" is awful and I'm capable of figuring it out without being beat over the head with worthless expository dialogue.

Ok that's just unreasonable.

That's basically any Ubisoft game, I swear they credit the entire staff of the contractor that cleans the toilets at their offices.

Shame you can't do it with the obnoxious opening credits. But most of the time I can just replace them with empty files and skip them.

I started to watch them on youtube. Fuck those narcissists, I'm not sitting in the theater for 30 minutes more to just watch a 30 second bullshit scene.

Depends it can be done with a nice way, like with the game flower, you continue to play.

Or with journey! With that awesome music and showing you the path you took backwards to the beginning!

Brilliantly remembered. The smash credits being interactive is great I enjoyed that a lot when I played smash. Not heard of the 2nd part of your post as Ive never owned or really played any playstation games, but cool idea non the less.

I wonder if there's any other special or different/unique ending credits... interactive some how or just... Unique somehow. Psychonaughts 2? No...

I'm sure there's one I've played at some point that I can't quite remember... Damn.

The upcoming plucky squire game looks like a potential contender.

They had like 10 full studios working on Unity during its development I think.
