Sonic Frontiers won't be delayed despite fan feedback

I love Adventure 1 & 2 as much as the next guy who loves bad games, but the series needed open world like a decade ago. He needs room to run around.

Also, Sonic combat that's not just the homing attack? Yeah the series needed that too. The enemies actually look like they fight back a little and aren't braindead easy.

Not sure what you're asking here, but...
This isn't even as different from "Boost gameplay" as Sonic Unleashed's werehog levels or Sega's various interpretations of "Classic Sonic". The people who asked to drop boost gameplay aren't getting what they asked for here either. All the people propping up how "different" this is are grossly overstating it.
Yeah, you can really run around freely with boost gameplay. I thought the ones who didn't like the boost gameplay are getting exactly what they asked for, no on-rails gameplay, no just bosting to finish a level and the ability to run around a huge environment freely

The game looks really good, and is only getting hate because of Sonic Team and half of that is not from so-called fans IMO

A lot of you seem to have faith in a game when they decided to show an early build first, one week before they brought out a better build. Then they tell people that criticisms are from people who "don't understand" the game. I mean, yeah. That's what happens when you dish out inconsistent previews to the internet. That's crappy marketing 101.

I want this game to be good. But Sonic Team does this to themselves, and Iizuka needs to keep his mouth closed for a while. Bring out a good build, let the game do the talking (if possible), and let it happen. And for the love of everything, don't reference a Sonic Adventure 3. How long has Iizuka been dangling that carrot in front of Sonic fans? Give it a rest until it's under development.

All the previews look almost exactly the same. You guys are massively exaggerating how different they look to hide how much the negative hyperbole is going to backfire. In the second batch of previews the people playing look a little better at the game, but that's it. You guys couldn't figure out that it was someone playing a brand new demo?

Good, companies need to stick to their artistic vision, stop letting social media and toxic gamers run the business.
I mean, that's nice and all. But Frontiers is a direct result of poor reviews and fanbase criticisms from the Sonic Forces release. Which is why I want this game to be good. Finally, Sonic Team is being reactionary and trying to get something of some quality out there, instead of just tossing out some 2-hour boost game. They just need to follow through here.

They don't really look that similar. The new previews are showing a more populated world, there is less pop-in, and it's 60fps (minus a few drops here and there). It's a pretty big difference. I would be on board with what everyone is saying if the IGN preview came from a few months ago, or something.

Trust me, I want the criticisms to backfire. I want this game to be good. But I also know that this is the same director who did Forces. A game that was pretty awful overall. They're both Kishimoto games. Some people may like that game. I'm sure there are people out there that do love it. But we can't pretend like it was some high quality release in the Sonic franchise. It was a bare bones game that shoehorned in a plethora of annoying elements. When the general consensus is that Sonic Team has dropped the ball several times over, it's up to them to pick it back up again. It's not the problem for the fans and their "hyperbole."

But not by the traditional sonic producers. The guy that made it is now bankrupt.
I don't know about this. This is a project that was green-lit by SEGA Japan and USA, it exists because they decided so, and it wasn't targeting the modern audience at all.

Well, greenlit by SEGA because Taxman's MODs and engine recreations were so impressive that fans kept screaming, "This is what should SEGA should sell as actual Sonic games."

Thank god. It's looked good since day one. I'm excited to play it this year.
To me it looks cheap and like a "learning UE project" but for some reason I want to play it, I've not played any Sony and didn't like Generations so I left it lol, I'll probably like this one tho... """"probably""""

I'm sorry on some of the Boost stages one can't even turn around and go backwards. Far more freedom shown in Frontiers
I mean, yeah, I guess by the standards of boost games, being able to go in more than one direction is "Far more freedom", but that sure as heck is not saying much when you're still being railroaded and having control taken away from you to push Sonic in a certain direction every few seconds. Breath of the Wild sure as heck did not do that, nor Super Mario Odyssey, nor did any other "Open World" game I can recall from memory.

Simply being "better" than the last Boost game isn't good enough, especially when that last Boost game was Sonic Forces.

You must be viewing a different game. It looks like you're in complete control of Sonic now in 3D, a move not really since the 1st Sonic Adv game. I guess one was never in complete control of Mario In Galaxy since at times you had control taken away from you when you went down a pipe or flew to a different planet

I think you're just looking for issues to have on Sonic, no doubt you must have disliked the old Sonic games, when you did the lopp the lopp Ect... not being in full control ;)

I think it looks dull but with the extreme popularity of repetitive, low content copy and paste open-world games, they may be on to a winner. I applaud the dev for sticking to his guns at the least. Most important thing is satisfying controls and gameplay feedback loop.

The combat-focused gameplay looks repetitive and button mashy. Having just recently replayed Sonic 06, it reminds me of Shadow's bad combat-focused levels in that game, but at least he had fun cars to drive around in some.

It's essentially PSO2 New genesis bouncer. which makes sense as Sonic Team worked on both these games and they share an engine.

I guess it is good that developers believe in their product and not change it because people react badly to it.

Not may not end well but I think it's a good approach anyway. Especially at that point of development. Maybe they should've asked opinions sooner?

I think it looks awesome. The parry is cool. The cyberspace levels look great. Showed him doing some twists after ramping off a hill. Looks like one of the best Sonic games I've seen.

Meanwhile the modders are creating 3D settings that are more faithful to the franchise than that filth

God, if Nintendo just starts to add other franchises to the core game like Smash Bros. Mario Kart will be so big I can't even imagine.

I remember posting something like that here. First thing that pop in my mind after seeing this was that stupid Shadow kicks in air.

Enemies with multiple hitpoints really are the worst. Glad someone decided Sonic Team could make an open world character action game and that this would work out for them.

Edit: waitwaitwait. Those cyberspace levels are just reused Generations & Unleashed assets! Come the FUCK on!

Combat still looks completely off-topic for the series.
I don't know why. Sonic has never been a pacifist. He bashes machines since the first game. Same thing here. Just a little more depth added. Looks like he jumps on enemies, runs around them, has his same old dash attack, or has a few limited kicks/punches like Mario has had for a while now. 🤷‍♂️

Sonic Heroes had stronger enemies (with life bars) and it ruined the flow. This looks much worse.

You don't spend 5 minutes fighting a single enemy in Sonic games. Except for bosses.

That's true. This seems to have many moments where they slow down the pace though. Towers, puzzles, mini-bosses / strong enemies. I guess that's not for everyone.

To be fair, You could still defeat them easily if you used the right team member at the right time. Heroes as a whole is a more slower paced game, that plays more like a puzzle game but can still be enjoyed if you're good at using the mechanics.

I feel like the linear stages won't have enemies that take more than a homing attack to kill, which will make them still have a good speedy pace. I don't mind the more elaborate fights in the open world if they keep the linear stages as they were, with badnicks taking just one hit

Oh, it's you again. Are you going to post every single video you find prophesying the demise of Sonic ? This is getting old really fast.
I'm on the verge of making an avatar bet thread for Sonic Frontiers meta-critic score. I think the entire forum except me and a handful of other people would be stuck with Furry avatars for 6 months. On one hand, the entertainment and satisfaction would be worth it - but on the other hand, we'd all have to look at furries for 6 months.

The game is gonna suck, in the few moments of preview it felt boring, and no element of gameplay should feel like that ever. I’m gonna call it now.

I think it will get a green or good rating on Metacritic(75 or higher rating) if the game comes out polished and with minor bugs. I heard during the hands-on some people were falling through the the ground and dying at Summer Games Fest. The IGN guy said the boss battles need some tweaking too. From what I have seen thus far IMO the foundation for this game looks good.

If you follow this forum you would think Sonic is going to be the worst game ever. But if you actually listen to the people that are playing the game most of them are saying its good. here are recent previews.

They should have called it PSO: Sonic Edition. Why wonder Frontier looks off. It is borrowing a lot of the framework for PSO2 instead of building a world carefully crafted for Sonic. It looks a lot like Someone made a mod with Sonic in and had him reuse animations instead of creating ones that fit. People are optimistic about this game, but in my experience, games that don't do enough unique handcrafting usually turn out soulless and bland.

Isn't IGN the one with exclusive showing about this game?

I honestly dunno why people get so touchy about this. Looks surprisingly janky, no matter how you look at it. They could fix those details, but people insist on thinking these are the only problems the game has. Guess will be a swarm of "you didn't play the game" excuses, when the criticism is supposed to be a good thing for the game.
