Worst: Vaan and Relm. Hated them both. One has spray on abs and his bishonen worm bait brother axed in the first 20 minutes remained his most interesting character trait. His character arc ended 30% through the game in a fucking elephant ostrich farm and he only got reasonably cool and outfitted in a game where he was essentially a secret character.

Relm grinds my gears more because of what she represents than what she is. She's the third in a row of sassy young quirky female side characters, preceeded by Krile and Rydia. Two is a fluke, three is a pattern. Relm was the nail in the coffin that spawned Yuffie, Selphie, Eiko, Rikku, Penelo, and Vanille.

Worst: Zell (8) and Snow (13). Annoying and dumb. (I could also mention Hope (13)... However he is a kid so... Kids are dumb and annoying 99% of time so that's on par... I guess...).

Best:

Rufus (7) - Starts as the typical side villain and ends up being a really cool character, specially if you read/play the Before Crisis and other extra stuff.

Vivi from Final Fantasy 9 and Wakka from Final Fantasy X. Both go through some really impressive character growth and they're both very likeable.

As for worst:

It may be cheating, but it's the two characters from World of Final Fantasy: Lann and Reynn. There's nothing interesting about these characters at all.

The best characters are from Final Fantasy III (aka Final Fantasy VI I GUESS): Kefka in the #1 place, and then a four-way-tie with Terra/Locke/Celes/Cyan. All those characters are outstanding, well-developed, likable, and memorable.

Outside of that game, I do like Steiner and Cecil quite a bit.

Worst character is Cid Highwind from FFVII. I'm all for shades of gray, but one of our "heroes" is actively worse than many (most?) of the game's villains. People jump on Cloud for being "whiny," but no one's whinier than this abusive a-hole. He just whines while shouting so it's less obvious. Cid is a disgrace to the mellow Cids who came before him.

Second-worst is Seymour from FFX. I loved to hate Kefka. Seymour I just hated.

I don't feel like writing an essay on 4 characters but....

Worst: Quina (FF9). Ugly design, one dimension story and character, insanely annoying, awkward kit to use. Just everything about this character sucks with no positive points. There are other one dimensional characters in the series but they aren't on the same planet in terms of a grating personality. I don't know why this character exists plot wise.

Best: Garnet's (FF9) story arc is perfection. She defies the typical tropes of a princess character while still being lovable. Her entire storyline throughout the story is heartwarming and tear jerking and the conclusion is utterly satisfying.

Squall is one of the best protagonists in the series this board is full on capping.

Snow has Troy Baker as a VA but is a garbage character.

The best character in the XIII trilogy is probably The Last Hunter... Right down to being voiced by Max Goof.

After playing INTERMISSION I really liked Yuffie, made her much more of a character compared to the original game.

Best:
Zidane - a main character with actual charisma and game. Such a breath of fresh air after playing as emo douchebags in the previous two games.

Quina - some weird creature whose entire quest is to go eat as many things as possible. I thought Quina was genuinely funny and I was cracking up at how the rest of the party was completely confused and didn’t even know what gender pronoun to use. Plus he/she was overpowered as hell.

Worst:
Vanille - actually the whole cast of XIII sucks but Vanille was the worst of the bunch. All her stupid cutesy mannerisms and airheaded demeanor was insufferable. Especially her retarded running animation where she flails her arms around.

Tifa - she was engineered to appeal to virgin otaku/weeb losers. Girl with the body of a porn star but the personality of a sweet girl next door who has never known the touch of a man. And she does all the work of flirting with Cloud while he just acts like some socially retarded emo sad sack.
