I’m not retarded if that’s what your suggesting. Really don’t know if it’s a complete success or failure since I don’t really have any metrics to compare it to.
So your on the fence... Ok.

I bet you dont have such an issue declearing weather other games are success or failures.

Actually I’m struggling to decide if Horizon Forbidden West was successful or not.

P.S I don’t mean to disrespect Horizon Forbidden West BTW since I do enjoy the game. Sorry if I offended you by bringing it up.

I didn't like it for several reasons, but unlike some in this thread I cant put my personal taste to one side and actually look at all the relevant metrics. FW sold very well, it scored highly, played well had great visuals....
I think as a general statement FW was a success.
For me personally it was not.

If you're going to judge a games 'success' on Steam player counts ONLY, then you have to remember that infinite is also on Gamepass, and the Microsoft store etc. And if you're going to judge a games success soley on Steam player counts after nearly a year then there are some pretty big sales successes that would also be classed as a 'flop' after a year.
Outside of the Dota's, COD's, and big BR games, very few big name games have large player counts after a year guys.

Thats my take on it, let the way continue though fanboys.

I was talking about Horizon Forbidden West. Zero Dawn is already known to have been a huge success both critically and sales wise.

Everyone knew Xbox One is losing, and ignoring the nobodies, the leakers already put box One between 50-57 million range which were thrown off because of the One S and One X being spit into their own categories iirc, but that range was always seen as accurate.

50 million started out fast and then got slow after Titafall and then Microsoft got scared that the sales evaporated and thought about dropping out until they unbundled Kinect, and then dropped the price in late 2014.

50 million was the number people though the Xbox one wouldn't even touch so that's a pretty good number given the all the gambles that didn't pay off and several games that didn't catch on like project spark which people didn't buy consoles for. It shows that the revamps later on really did give some life to the console an the whole project scorpio thing was actually worth it because that good will transferred to the Xbox Series consoles which wil easily go over 50 million, it's just a question as to how much further.

Microsoft is lucky that Sony is also having a harder time getting things into get regarding software and hardware. In any other case all these delays from Starfield, Forza, and Redfall etc etc would have been a finishing blow in any other time, they better hope those games actually release on time without anymore delays, two years into the gen, right now Xbox has a chance to take up a void that's still wide open, especially in the US.

is this your argument?.

Is common knowledge that Halo Infinite's hyped got the best of reviewers.

But the amount/lack of content was/hasn't being enough to sustain a GaaS.

Halo has been bleeding player left and right.

Zw6wSYK.jpg

Out of the top 10.

Even the disaster, that was battlefield...still has more players.

Halo Infinite as a GaaS is just a Fart in the wind.

So theres good and bad metrics....

If both were bad I would agree it is a failure overall, but they aren't...

Xbox did worse than it deserved to because of things not even related to the system itself. The latest consoles will end up with way different results.

Microsoft did that to themselves with dumb choices. They aren't doing that this generation.
The decision to buy as many massive studios as they can is not the greatest thing for gaming. They clearly are trying to make subscription services the way of the future. We shall see how that pans out. I for 1 hope it fails miserably.

The fact a release like Halo Infinite has an 87 is actually...sad considering what was missing from the game on release day.
Also...a game going from 102k average players on PC to 11k 3 months later is a disaster for such a supposedly huge IP.

As someone posted before even Battlefield (which everyone made fun of when released) which had half of Halo's players at release date has more players currently which shows how bad the situation really is.

Watching this IP going from Halo 2 and 3 to...whatever is happening right now is just sad.

Halo 2
The game sold 2.4 million copies and earned up to US$125 million in its first 24 hours on store shelves, outgrossing the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as the highest-grossing release in entertainment history.[50][53] The game sold 260,000 units in the United Kingdom in its first week, making it the third fastest-selling title in that territory.[54] It ultimately received a "Double Platinum" sales award from the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA),[55] indicating sales of at least 600,000 copies in the United Kingdom.[56] It was the second best-selling game of 2004 in the United States (after Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), where it sold 4.2 million copies that year
Halo 3
First-day sales of Halo 3 reached $170 million in the U.S., setting a record for highest gross of a video game within 24 hours of its release.[77] The performance beat the previous record setter—Halo 2—which earned $125 million within 24 hours of its launch.[77] The game was preordered by more than one million people in North America.[78] Worldwide more than US$300 million worth were sold in the first week, helping to more than double the sales of the Xbox 360 when compared with the weekly average before the Halo 3 launch.[79] By 2010, Microsoft reported total grosses at $600 million
I feel like some people don't remember how HUGE Halo truly was...or aren't old enough i don't know.

It's just another Ip run to the ground by Microsoft, like Fable, Gears of War, etc.

Infinite is actually has the most playtime in single player. Apart from MCC which is several halos.

As for the quality going back to the old games the visuals are certainly less pleasent and several other things I prefer in Infinite, things such as the grapple hook and semi open world design. Going back to the older ones feels inferior.

I think there is some confusion though im not disputing that infinites MP is not doing well. My dispute is with the general statement that Infinite is a failure. I gave my reasons and not there not much left to discuss on the matter.

I'm genuinely not sure how it scored that high. The campaign is a hard 7, its generic af and has literally no environmental variety. The multiplayer is fun but it's just dead as hell. I think the scores were carried more by enthusiasm than actual quality tbh

That's what happens with most AAA games these days. Almost every long awaited sequel will get at least 85 even if mediocre. A 90 means it's a good title. Only after 95 it's actually excellent now.

Reviews are now hype pieces that NEVER mention actual technical issues with the games.

To be fair, if you can't put out content at a decent pace you shouldn't make a live service game.
Pretty easy to say on the outside looking in. Multiple live service games had growing pains.

I guess that depends on the developer. Some are more efficient than others.
Well it's certainly easier to make a single player offline title over a live service multi-player one. Efficiency helps but it is not the sole metric.

Well, yeah, but I don't really think these are growing pains when the game launched without basic features that last games had.

Halo is ded unless they launch BR mode.

Playstation is always going to sell more than xbox. There is no two ways about it.

Best thing to happen to Xbox gamers.

The top causes companies to become arrogant and complacent. Xbox wouldn't have acquired all those studios, wouldn't have gamepass etc if they held #1 spot in NA. (Same happened with Sony and the PS3)

Comparing one of the most iconic multiplayer games of all time to single player story games is a weird coping mechanism but you do you.

Halo is also known for its single player...

So it aint a weird coping mechanism, its just the truth and the MP is not terrible, ive already stated in this thread some of its positive attributes.
But please read the whole exchange about infinite, everything has been discussed already, you ain't saying anything new, that different posters has not already said to me.

Launch was fine what do you mean? It made Microsoft think there was nothing wrong with $500 until later.
What do you mean?? The Xbox One absolutely had an awful launch. Almost all the news and buzz leading up to it was negative. The mandatory Kinect that everyone thought would spy on them. The idiotic decision not to have used game sharing, constant internet connection required. The push to be an entertainment center instead of a console. The large size, and comparisons to vcr player.... It was absolutely a disaster of a launch from a pr perspective.

I mean come on! Let's be real, they handed the start of the generation to playstation on a silver platter with how badly they messed up pre-launch. And yet despite such an awful start, it still sold half of the behemoth ps4 sales. It's definitely an impressive turn around!
