One problem. Smash is not a fighting game. It is a party platform brawler.

Ah yes, back in the day the arcade was my second home, used to school mfs in games like Tekken 2, Soul Calibur, Rival Schools, Killer Instinct and more. I'll stick to the OT and only pick 5, 1 per franchise. In no particular order:

Eddy Gordo - Tekken 2
Orchid - Killer Instinct
Voldo - Soul Edge
Blanka - Street Fighter
Baraka - MK2
Yes... Eddy Gordo in Tekken 2...

I would love for that to be the case. I would enjoy the addition of Yakuza characters in Virtua Fighter 6 or Fighters Megamix 2.

What game is this? I recognize the chracter from the arcade places when i was little. I remember the game was more like team vs team, each team havibg 3 characters.
The character is Chang Koehan from King of Fighters franchise. The sprite source is probably KoF '99.

Wii Fit Trainer
LeBron James
Geralt of Rivia
Cloud Strife
Joker (both Batman and Persona)

Smash is a platform fighter and a party game. So Party Platform FIghter would be the most specific description. Platform Fighter would be it's Fighting game classification though.

The types of fighting game subclasses im aware of are 2d, 3d, Anime(Air Fighter but no one calls it that.), Platform and Arena. Team can apply to any of these but it's a sub of a sub class.

I always really liked Soul Calibur 3 Setsuka as a great design in a complete way. The look, the stage, music, animations and her technical stylish fighting style. Great in every way.

Savage Reign is a platform fighter. Smash is a party platform brawler. It does not obey fighting game rules such as rounds, movement and attacks relative to opponent position, health defining victory, resets without juggle floatiness modifiers, outside of ring =/= round lost.

I'm just using common terminology in the fgc :/ but you can call it what you want \(×.×)/

It's also on Wikipedia if that matters lol

1. Sub Zero - any Mortal Combat (yeah I even loved this character in the old cartoon from the 90s, in mk 9 he was just badass).

2. Kirby - Super Smash Bros (beat the game 15 times with this character, yeah crazy I know).

3. WarMachine - Marvel vs Capcom on one of those Arcade machines that I can't quite remember the name of.

4. E Honda - Street fighter 2 (the hundred hand slap was the 1st cool move that I ever figured out).

5. Nightmare - Soul Calibre ("I NEED MORE SOOOOOUULS").

Wanted to add Yoshimitsu and Christy from Tekken but that would be cheeting.

Only things on wikipedia worth a damn are dates and sources. Pretty hard to screw those up in public edits.

1: there are other fighting games without rounds.
2: you can play Smash with health instead of damage meters
3: other fighting games that have ring outs exist

1. The team games with character switching have rounds. The only deviation is a health handicap. Rounds are defined by pauses between player versus player gameplay when health is depleted or time runs out.
2. There is a versus mode in Streets of Rage 2, but that does not make it a fighting game. There is a beat 'em up mode in Tekken 3, but that does not make it a beat 'em up.
3. True. It was late and I made a mistake writing it that way given the context of the sentence. The reason Smash does not follow fighting game rules is when the characters fly out of the bounds of the ring they have the ability to jump back in without losing anything. The characters have to leave the bounds of the stage to lose a life in Smash and that makes it different. Put another way, imagine a fighting game with a hole in the middle of the ring. If the hole was jumped across, it would count as a loss due to the preexisting rules.
