My thoughts on spiderman 2018

Now that I'm able to play the game on PC, here's how I feel (haven't played for very long though)

The web swinging and animations are top notch. People told me about how its more dumbed down than previous games, but honestly it's still very fun, and the amazing visuals help with that spectacle.

The combat is pretty good too. Granted, it's nothing compared to yakuza, Bayonetta or DMC5, but for what it is, there is a lot of stuff you can pull off with the list of moves at your arsenal. I've been playing on the hard difficulty and it does provide a moderate, fun challenge while not being too overbearing (most of the time anyways)

The missions kind of bore me sometimes though. I feel like they should hone in on the combat and stealth since the game shines best in those 2 areas imo (the boss fights especially are some of the most fun events in the game) , but there's a lot of cutscenes and cinematic which can be a total pace breaker when you just got done rearranging the skeletal structure of some 2 bit thugs. Intact I find myself tending to crimes around the city and exploring more since the base missions can be so fucking lackluster at times.

Overall I still think I'm gonna really like this game in the future despite the problems I have with some of the mission design

It's really a great game. I platted it within a week. I'm glad the PC community can enjoy it as well now.

The only thing that bothered me were the stealth missions. Otherwise magnificent game.

A worthy succesor to PS2's spider man 2.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. They did a good job giving you a lot of freedom in the open-world setting, but at the same time the typical open-world repetitiveness creeps in strong and fast. One of my favorite parts was how they used the phone/radio to keep the plot moving in place of a ridiculous amount of cut scenes. One of the few games that I spent some time in completing quite a bit of the clutter on the map. Still have to give Miles a go.

I loved it. Only thing I didn’t really care for were some of the side missions were pretty shallow. Combat was awesome.

I'm halfway through and also find it a bit boring so far. It has that Sony quality but for me personally it doesn't hold a candle to masterpieces like Days Gone, Horizon ZD and God of War. I suspect it'll end up a 7/10.

I remember trying it on the ps4 a few years ago.
Web swinging was great fun, everything else is kinda forgettable.

It is better than Judgement and Yakuza in that at least you aren't forced into battle, and your health regenerates somewhat, both the former games you can't even turn around a street corner without being dragged into a fight..which then subsequently drains all your top-up energy supplies, which leaves next to nothing for the bigger battles ahead to move forward..

I enjoy just being Spiderman and swinging around, fighting crime.

Some of the side missions just sucked though. Admittedly if this game starred an original character instead of Spidey, I probably wouldn’t like it as much.

After I found out that all the side mission stuff sucks, I focused on the main storyline and enjoyed it a lot. Good thing it was relatively short, because by the end all the webswinging near-lost its charm.

Good games, but a tad bit overrated. Enjoyed Miles more because it was shorter and more focused. Spiderman was too bloated with all the repetitive sidefluff. The webswinging, combat and main story was very good though. Great graphics too, but I don't expect anything less from Sony 1P.

Played it on the PC recently. Nice graphics, traversing the city was good, story and combat were ok. Side missions were boring and forgettable.
Give it a 7,5 out of 10.

Haven't played it yet. Only seen some gameplay videos, but it got me worried about quick time events.
I hate QTEs and I saw a few in there. Don't know if they are everywhere, or just some few specific places.

I tried two times to get into this. Visuals and style is top notch, but the game bores me to death.

I have also realized that the cringy, annoying style/ personality of Spiderman himself is even more annoying in game form than in the movies.
I don't remember thinking about that stuff so much when playing the old Spiderman games, but that's probably because I was a kid back then, and also beause those games had really fun gameplay.

played & enjoyed it...

but i've yet to replay it (or even think about doing so), or play the miles version. while, on the other hand, i've done multiple replays of all 3 batman games (& origins). so, there's that...

Loved the Batman games. I had fun with Spiderman, but it always felt like they had zero own ideas and just copied most of the stuff. And this boring side content didn't help.

I enjoyed it, made you really feel like spiderman. I terms of sony open world games id say

Spiderman
Ghosts
Days gone
Ratchet and clank
Hzd

Brilliant gameplay, same for miles morales....just let down by weak side content for padding. I expect number 2 will be awesome.

One of the few games you never feel the need to use fast travel in, that in itself is an incredible accomplishment. Miles Morales was also really good, I almost felt it was better but it might just be recency bias.

I played it slamming through the main missions and just occasionally stopping to fuck around. Pretty good game.

It's a game that does what it sets out to do very well. It's more concerned with making you feel like Spiderman swinging through the city with nice graphics than super-deep gameplay. Nothing wrong with that either.

A very wise product for Sony overall.

Pretty good summary.

The main story and visuals are top notch, but like most games the missions do get a bit tedious and the open world has no depth, its like a giant movie set,

Best iteration of free flow combat, fun traversal and good story, open world and sidequest were boring tho.

It’s a great game but I think people overrate it a bit by putting it in the tiers of goat games. I’ve seen people say it’s the best game of all time. It’s a ubi game crafted to perfection but doesn’t do anything new. I hope they make the world more interactive. The open world aspects felt to much like set dressing. And less police activities.

Its definitely disappointing to me playing it now on PC after the hype. The game is kind of boring although even I'm still early in the game. The combat is okay, the open world is dull but goof looking, the story is okay at best. The voice acting quality is great however. Overall seems like a 7/10 game so far, maybe 8/10 on a good day at best.

I enjoyed it, it was fun, but I also always enjoyed Spider-Man games in general, and I think this one got so much hype and overrated only because it was a Sony Exclusive. It's a good fun game, but's it's still super similar to the previous games, it's just prettier, better presentation.

I was personally quite disappointed by the swinging, as it feels really scripted and not physics based, I think it lacks sensation, it doesn't feel like you're free falling and suddenly catching on a web, it feels more automated and it made it less enjoyable for me. It's still fun and visually it looks spectacular, but there's something off about it for me. One noticeable thing about this is how if you slightly press RT / R2 on the floor, you will notice that spider-man starts moving forward in the air before even throwing the web, which is a good illustration on how the swinging isn't really based on physics.

I didn't mind the collectibles because the free roaming was still quite fun, but I hated the crimes, there are way too many of them, especially when you reach chapter 3 and it's brand new crimes in all the different areas, and then once again for DLC. It was quite tedious and very repetitive, and some other side content was quite boring too.

I wish most of the side content was more scoring or various type of fun original challenges, rather than some of the boring quests and crimes.

I also felt the story slightly lacking, there's some cool stuff but when I finished it I felt like I didn't see much, it was a strange impression.

But it looks really good and it's overall fun to play, I think it's a totally decent game, but it got overhyped because of its exclusive status. I prefered Sunset Overdrive as far as I'm concerned because it was much less repetitive, it had a lot of varied challenges and it was always refreshing, while spider-man felt too repetitive.

Hopefully the sequel improves on that.

I feel that Miles Morales does what you recommended and increases the stealth. One thing I would say though is that getting gold on those challenges were pretty tough on Spiderman 2018 and not so tough on Miles Morales.

The side missions and bloat suck but I enjoyed the main campaign.

The story was very good and better than any Spiderman movie I've seen.

Game is a blast to play for the most part, but much like most open world games these days, I'm finding it quite hard to actually finish. I realize that's on me, but that doesn't make it any better. I also tend to cycle through games, and this one keeps getting put on the back burner in favor of less daunting prospects. I really do need to sew it up and get on MM sooner than later though.

The game feels dated to me, like an open world from early on in the genre. And those MJ missions and quick time events, urgh.
I really enjoyed the game for the first 3 or 4 hours but find it a chore now, and i quit after around an hour. The swinging is fun though.

That's the problem with playing games 4 years after they release.

Nah, the game is still mostly good even today and these sidequest\stealth sections would have been crap even 10 years ago.

The dude would have probably got bored even at release date if these things are where he draw the line.

Personally I thought the game is well made, beautiful, boring and repetitive.

Echo a lot of what people say. It's a fantastic template for a sequel. The core work is there, just needs more interesting things to do. If it was more Arkham like in the sense that you were fighting more actual Spider-Man villains in the side quests it would be incredible.

First time I ever played Mario 64 was 17 years after release and that game didn't feel dated and still stands above everything that released since
If a game was good then it'll be good now. Spiderman 2018 with all its flaws still feels very good to play 4 years later

The only thing I would trully complain about this game is those stupid stealth missions.
Like, I kinda understand Spider being stealthy since he is a super hero. But forcing you to play as those dumbass npc support characters its just stupid. Also, worst MJ ever displayed on a Spider-man.

Good -

I love the traversal as it is automated enough to be easy but gives you enough control that you can normally do exactly what you want to do while looking slick as hell while you do it.

The combat is great too - can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Once you get some practice you can do some really cool stuff and again look cool as hell.

The main characters have really high quality textures and look really good even zoomed in.

Bad -

The stealth missions are awful.

The world feels like a PS3 game as it doesn't react to you at all with no-clip NPCs that just stand there while you smash the ground around them etc. or cars that just push you around with no physics like that new Saints Row game. I'm sure their hands were tied as Spider-Man can't go around massacring civilians so not sure how to improve this. There is also nothing to do outside of a few collectables.

The city itself can look really poor with low quality textures and low res RT on PS5.

It feels like there is a lot of filler and things can feel really repetitive.

Loved the game, lose the MJ missions though, shit was painfully boring. Incredible visuals and moment to moment gameplay though, hopefully the actual game design is shored up a bit in the sequel.
