Microsoft's Unorthodox "Inclusive unexclusive" Strategy in Gaming Jeopardizes Exclusive Games.

Exclusives in the end do matter to differentiate each console from each other just like streaming movie services do. If they didn’t, why is Microsoft procuring these huge companies to make exclusive software for them? What do you think mostly sold the PS2 and Nintendo Switch? If all consoles had the same games with the same graphics capabilities and features, then you may as well have one platform that plays everything which would probably lead to other problems.

Multiple platforms or new even new competitors would be essentially pointless because they would all be practically identical to each other. If all consoles have the same software, then movie services like Netflix, Disney Plus, Tubi, Amazon Prime, etc should share all movies as well in that case.

Of course they do but not console exclusives. They will matter more in the stupid GaaS future more than they do now but they will be service exclusives. They would be a reason why you would need to pay £30 a month to 2-3 companies rather than own 2-3 consoles. Maybe even forcing you to do both, buy 2-3 consoles and pay 2-3 companies every month to access some exclusive.

i'll use Disney as for analogy and benchmark here:

Disney acquired both Marvel and 21st-century established content, locked all of their Films and series behind a streaming service removing them from other competitors, and fueled more money into those IPs to produce original exclusive content. They also have an entire legacy of Disney content all under the same service.

Microsoft has done the same yet only has acquisition and a bare service to show. Im not saying Gamepass is bad, im saying exclusive IPs, games, is needed on all fronts.
Well, Microsoft and Sony buying developers will mean more exclusives so you should be happy.

I am sorry, but isnt a Playstation ecosystem like a service? Don't know if you can really blame Microsoft. Just comes across as a stealth hate Game Pass thread.

Yall keep making any little critique toward Microsoft /Xbox into a console war / Gamepass hate.

i don't get why people get so upset about exclusives. i guess it's an age thing. maybe i'm too old for this shit. personally, this is my deep analysis of how i feel about some exclusives on each platform:

- halo / gears suck
- forza is made for little kids
- last of us / spider-man is boring
- god of war was cool on ps2 but it's the same shit every time
- mario is fun
- zelda is good

I'd also like to add that sex scenes in a video game may possibly be in the top 5 cringiest things created by humans.

They made this a race for quantity over quality (for better or worst)
Welcome to subscription services at large? I mean this isn't invented, or even particularly driven by MS - it's been well established trend for a decade prior.
But I wouldn't worry about exclusives - 'service exclusivity' already is, and will only grow to be more of a thing. Just like Netflix/Prime whatever originals - you'll have a growing stable of GamePass/PSPlus/NO exclusives before long.

I'll agree that some exclusive content is needed, however I don't see a problem with any of the platform holders publishing IPs on competing hardware either. Especially in MS's case with GP, CoD on PS or Switch at full price just acts as an advertisement for choosing MS and GP instead. A good balance could work fine. You need enough exclusive content to make your ecosystem "UN-skipable" and once you have that owning a few huge IPs that exist across multiple platforms aren't going to hurt you. I'd expect that the platform holders would keep all content exclusive to their specific subscription service, even if the titles are available for sale everywhere, thus even multi-plat titles would be subscription service exclusives just like what Netflix and Disney are doing. Unless of course there was some type of outside influence that necessitated something different (Deathloop, MLB Show, etc.).

Xbox is just trying to come out on top which makes sense from a business stand point. But at least the games will be on PC too, and their Xbox ecosystem is better than Playstation's. But Nintendo is the worse, hogging Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade, those are the only reasons why i bought a switch. I dont like their console and their business practices, also not a fan of Mario/Zelda/Pokemon, but got the console anyway.

Fuck exclusives. Let me play what I want, where I want.

Also, Game Pass (and PS+ I guess) everywhere. Give me a Nintendo subscription I can play on Xbox or PS too, then I can choose the best hardware.

Don't worry, this will happen eventually. Everything will be containerized from an App you can launch on your mobile phone. No physical GPU accelerated hardware will be needed. All content on demand. When connection to the cloud becomes interrupted, you will be forced to play outside, read a book, and spend quality time with your dreaded family.

I know this is old, but i just had to say THANK YOU. Nothing screams "made for virgins" more than sex scenes in a video game. I say this despite considering Witcher 3 among the best open world games ever. Goddamn, "cringe" doesn't even begin to describe it.
