I love the PS5 as a console but I hate its UI

I hate how you open the store and then have to press down and then up again and then right several times to get into your wishlist or shopping cart. And if you accidentally press up one time too many you have to repeat everything again. Then sometimes you can scroll through a game's screenshots by pressing L1+R1, and in other games you have to press X on a particular picture, then exit with O, scroll, enter another with X. Then sometimes I buy a game and it doesn't appear in my library, and I have to go to the shop, then search and install it from there. And the "select version" is kinda awful, because sometimes you don't find the stuff you are looking for. Recent example: RE7 after it got the RT patch, several people and myself here on the forum somehow just couldn't find the correct game showing as owned because we had disc copies. Also it sucks that there are no user reviews. And last but not least, it's a farce that many games that cost like seven bucks when they go on sale every three weeks still cost a hundred bucks as a regular price. That is preying on ignorance, for me. Awful.

Nope, all I see there are people I might know based on mutual friends. Nowhere does it show people I‘ve recently met.

Yeah sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t
I think it depends on last game you played
Either some games brick the function or do not support it

Wait till you see the xbox UI. I have both consoles and the Playstation UI shits on the Xbox UI from a mile high. Xbox dashboard is utter garbage. It gets the job done, but holy shit, is it complicated.
I turn on my xbox series x once every other month or so, but I‘ve never had any problems finding settings or accessing certain features on it. But then again, microsoft is a software company first and a hardware manufacturer second, it‘s supposed to be better regarding the UI but not miles ahead, given that the PS5 is the third sony console with a UI (not counting handhelds).

Ranking consoles UIs it‘s probably Switch (something which has no features or settings cannot have a confusing UI) > Xbox series X > every other platform up until now > PS5 for me.

it's terrible. Kind of funny that we all were hyping up a new OS /UI and reality I would have much prefered a updated PS4 OS and them keep all the progress they had made.

It's fine for me as a single player gamer. Find game, play game. Easy. Also, I like that I can get to settings easily by pushing the PS button. Makes it simple to change sound devices which is handy for me.

I do miss themes though.

Looks neat but isnt the most intuitive thats for sure.

Sister just bought a new Samsung QLED and asked me to come figure some things out. Took me about 20 minutes to find correct inputs and set one default.

Wife just bought a new ROKU OS TV and i picked up the remote and everything made sense and was easy having never messed with roku.

It isn't as intuitive as the PS4 UI to me. I much preferred just pressing up on the d-pad to get to the system and notification options at the very top over how they implemented them at the bottom of the screen where you have to press the PS button to get there. I also very much dislike how it tends to default to the "Explore" option so they can show me a stream of ads for DLC or whatever instead of just focusing on my games that I'm there to play. It feels like the store is everywhere all the time and convenience when it comes to finding and organizing my games takes a backseat to being advertised to.

I liked its UI, but its not forward thinking. Once you have a small library of games, it goes to shit. Shutdown is a pain too, why not just hold PS button? I had to google it on launch day lol.

And where are folders?

Meh, 90% of the time I just put disk in and play the game, I barely interact with its other features.

I like the themes of ps4, but customizability of the ps3 UI. PS5 UI is ok, but is lifeless. The lack of a browser is comical other than the backwards browser you can access through twitter. I guess the best part about PS5 UI is you don't have to look at it long since the console functions so quickly.

I have the feeling that sometimes testers don't really have a say in this. Some design and upper management guys think this looks cool and want testers to confirm that, like pseudo-scientific or conspiracy people only allowing "facts" that support their claims and arguments.

When I did some testing for a web interface (where customers could order things and/or put ads into newspapers) for a company years ago, I was literally told that there "is no issue"... dude, I literally found several issues from a customer POV and pointed them out in a 2 page long PDF and the guy in management shrugged it off and went on waxing about this new interface for customers. I hate this "we don't talk about that" attitude. That's literally how Anthem went to shit because it wasn't allowed to talk about other MMO FPS and get ideas from those that did well.

It’s not a matter of which one is worse. They are both pretty awful.

At the end of the day you learn to get to your games and ignore it.

They've still yet to top the PS3 UI. PS3's ui felt so slick and futuristic at the time. They really should just give players the ability to customize it to each persons preferences.

Uhhh don't know why you are getting that. See if there is anything in your settings, cause that's not how it looks on mine. I get a "played together" view:

If I would‘ve found anything how to solve this problem I probably wouldn‘t have opened this topic. Again, settings and I are not getting along very well on this system.

Not hating on PS because there's a lot of companies out there that release some products that you just ask yourself 'Did they give this thing to anyone to test before releasing?'

Like seriously sit some people down and go 'Hey bro, check this out. What can we do to make it better?'

Stupid example but my logitech PC speakers make this loud 'BLEEP' sound when I turn on my PC. No way to turn this sound off or lower the volume of it and there's tons of complaints about it. Did Logitech not think hey this is going to be really annoying to some folks if its THIS FUCKING LOUD. Just fucking baffling.

I hate that you have to press multiple clicks to view all trophies while playing.

Does PS5 UI even have ability to create Folders? I remember that being the number 1 request from users on PS4. Just crazy man. How is it that the designers don't see these issue beforehand?

Trying browse plus catalog is weird. Otherwise I don't have trouble with it. I don't do much with but start games tho. I've probably spent most time with the storage management aside from that and I thought it was pretty good.

i luv PS5 except the UI.
and the store
and the light on the console
and the light on the controller
and the mic being on by default
how messy collection filters are
and how big and heavy the console is
no reviews on games
PS plus filled with shovelware and when u click on them u dont get a pic or video or anything.
it doesn't detect ethernet automatically

what ppl mean when they say they love PS5, is they like playstation exclusives. Because xbox does nearly everything better.
You can mute the mic by default. mine is always off. so you can cross that point of your list ;)

As I said in another Thread: I miss managing cloud saves for a specific game when I'm in the Collection. As someone who owns (or licenses for digital games ;) ) a lot of games, it is really annoying to have to start a game just to get the options from the main side. Why sony doesn't give us the same options in the collection we have on the games in the collection puzzles me. Also a check all installed Games for Updates would be really nice....

So many of the big/known names can't get basic shit right. My friend bought some Philips wireless earphones recently, put them in, and was greeted by a loud noise. Why is it necessity have a loud noise that you can't disable?

Back to Sony and Microsoft, you'd think that two behemoth companies with decades of experience would be able to put out UIs that weren't worse than their existing work. It must be intentional. I remember when PS3 had an update that forced Singstar or something similar to be installed and made your console land on it when you boot up. Not your games, not the store, not the friends list, just a shitty thing that 99% of users didn't ask for or want. I'm pretty sure they fucked up the PSN store at one point and it was a straight downgrade, but I'm not as clear on that one.

I really like the Xbox UI with it being very customisable, No complains from me except it's
not as good looking as PS5 UI but at least its more functional

Store is awful, it took me some time to find the MW2 Open Beta. You can literally type in the search "Call of Duty" and get 0 results back. Baffling if you ask me. It's crazy as big as UX/UI has become in industries all over, but the execution keeps getting worse with all of the research they do.

PS3 UI is the undisputed king with PS4 UI following after that.

My SteelSeries headphones make this loud auditable beeping sound when the battery is below a certain %. Problem is that the headphone is still useable for at least an hour before it dies. Imagine listening to music or gaming with that sound constantly ringing out. No way to turn it off or tap a button to acknowledge the low battery warning.

Its annoying. Why not make the sound come on the last 15 minutes?

Also for the bolded part, I'm starting to think that might actually be true with regards to Xbox and PS UI's.

This seems like a good place to rant about the horrible PS5 UI. To me, this is a new low for Sony. I’ve worked as a broadcast engineer for almost 20 years, and as such, I’ve had to deal with various Sony menus, be it cameras, mixers, CCUs, monitors, you name it. Some of them can be really obtuse but nothing too upsetting, there are worse manufacturers out there, that’s for sure.

However, the PS5 UI is in a diffetent league, even compared to Sonys worst offenders. Everything takes more button presses than it did on previous consoles and lots of functionality is removed.

So I had to move my PS4 library over to the PS5 this week. I have about 700 PS4 games with the majority on disc. So they recently added gamelists, should be kinda like folders, right? As it turns out, no, not in the slightest. When adding games to a list, I have to scroll through not only all of my 700 games, with no search function to be seen, every game I ever started on my account is there aswell. Within the list, I can’t arrange order and neither can I choose which list shows first. To access my lists, I have to navigate all the way to my library. Ok, fine I’m setup, let’s download a savefile from the cloud. Turns out this is only possible if the game is on the home screen. So just to download a save, I have to launch the game, quit it and then download from the home screen. Ofcourse I could always scroll through all games under the save data managment option under settings, but as you can tell, that would be an even slower option.

Then sometimes when I’m with the kids, I’d like to not have graphic violence show up among the games on my homescreen. So how do I remove games from there? Yeah, I’ll just have to delete them because no such option exists.

Luckily I’m mostly disc based so I can sort my games on the shelf instead and why not auto-launch discs like with PS3/4, so I don’t have to bother with the UI at all? Turns put they removed that option aswell!

That is without going into detail how every simple command takes more button presses than they used to, how those cards I have no use for take up half the screen or how the trophylists are butchered. I guess if you don’t have a big library of games it could be fine, but this is such a mess of a UI that it is unbelievable it’s from the same company that made the PS3s XMB or the functional PS4 UI. What a PoS, the PS6 can’t come soon enough!

It's not the best but at least it is miles better then the Xbox UI. God that is a mess.

PS5 store is extremely lacking. 2 that really bug me- Can’t search by developer, can’t search for demos only.
The search filters are terrible compared to Xbox. If I remember correctly, you can even search by 60 fps, HDR, 4K stuff like that on Xbox. It’s a pain to filter games on the PS5. There’s barely any options except for date of release.

It's better than the PS4 UI in terms of visuals (harkening back to XMB a bit more). I'd say it's probably the most athestically pleasing UI of current consoles.
Some things are oddly laid out, but it's got enough features if you know how to find it.

But most of all it's extremely snappy, it's leagues faster than the PS4 UI and the XMB.
Overall, it's a lot better than the xbox or steam big picture, about on par with switch and PS4.

It's not fantastic. But it does it's job well.

it feels that the ppl would prefer seeing wallpaper rather than their actual work-place (so to say)

I think it is the same ppl who asked Apple to make apps not to auto order, so they can put apps the way wallpaper would be visible

I could never care less about wallpapers, as soon as you feel that way I think that is the time you would prefer xbox UI

It is like ordering your belonging on the table, the way that the tools are on the peripheral area so that the table would be visible

Review your privacy settings maybe?

I can take a look a little later to see what is going on and see if I can help.
