Cyberpunk 2077 achieves massive success with 1 million+ playerbase

According to CD Projekt, Cyberpunk 2077 has surged in popularity on consoles and PC. Over 1 million people have played Cyberpunk 2077 every day this week thanks in no small part to the new Edgerunners anime. This trend clearly validates CD Projekt's transmedia focus which stretches its key IPs and licensed franchises into merchandise and TV shows, including Edgerunners and the Witcher Netflix series.

Cyberpunk 2077 was a massive success for CD Projekt RED at launch and generated nearly triple earnings over The Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077 was only on the market for less than one month and sold 13 million copies across all platforms. In less than a month, Cyberpunk 2077's massive success helped CDPR hit a new all-time record high of 2.139 billion PLN (roughly $541.9 million as of March 31, 2021 conversions).

I've just seen that there's now a flying car mod on PC.

I'll be reinstalling to try it out. Never finished it the first time round so will probably start again fresh to see how much of a difference the patches have made.

Did they fully fix the game? I'm interested in playing it but the negative buzz around the game over the years makes me wary

Which is disappointing since I'm HUGE fan of The Witcher 1, 2 and 3
Depends what u expect them to fix. They fixed alot of bugs and the game runs well on next gen consoles and PC. The engine they use, the AI, the way stuff spawns is still crappy and can lead to imersion breaking moments. Overall the game its in decent shape, and much better than at launch, to be enjoyable now.

I played this a few months ago and I loved it. I usually don't go back in on huge games, but I want to play this again on pc when i get a new video card. The big update sounds interesting and I will have a look around for any mods I might want to try.

There is a vr mod that looks great. idk if im going to end up buying a card that can push that, though.

Unless you have a base console, in which case the experience is probably not good.

I'm gonna to buy the game on Steam

I'm gonna be updating my graphics card to a 4070 since that's a good boost

I have 2 980 gtx at the moment

I still game at 1080p settings when it comes to PC gaming

Not surprised considering how brilliantly the anime captured the look and feel of the Cyberpunk 2077 world.

I'm guessing popularity will reach peak height once Phantom Liberty drops and acts, essentially, as a re-launch of the game.

Just don't go into it thinking it's GTA in terms of the open world and emergent gameplay. Nobody does open world like Rockstar in my opinion. Don't go in with that assumption and just enjoy the world they've built and the stories (some of the side stories are fantastic, continuing the same thing we saw in TW3) and I think you'll dig it.

There are still some technical issues and things that I think are just limitations of the game engine like some pop-in etc ... so I'm glad to hear CDPR is transitioning to Unreal engine starting with Witcher 4.

You will have to play at 1080p/30 with around medium settings with a 980 (thats what i had to run at when i had a 980ti). The game doesnt support SLI.
Still the 30fps is perfectly framepaced so if you're used to console gaming you will be fine until you get your 4070.

Sweet, sweet vindication. To all the people who called this game a failure or wrote it off entirely claiming nobody was interested in it anymore? You were all wrong. Games, while we would all like for them to launch flawlessly, the fact remains that so long as the studio is committed to the game, how the game launches is not how it will remain. Games can and do get even better, sometimes a lot better, with time. This game is one such instance, and I'm loving every bit of this.

I bought the game due to the huge 1.6 patch buzz and B Bulletbrain 's post (https://www.neogaf.com/threads/cyberpunk-edgerunner-patch-now-live.1641107/post-266549930)

Loving the hell out of it so far. It's not even close to an impressive or groundbreaking open world in today's terms (and I don't think it's trying to be), but it's got an intriguing story and enjoyable RPG mechanics.
Make sure to check out Nexusmods since you are on PC. Loads of QoL stuff and more wild mods (flying cars!) already available.

My main problem with the game is that is light on content compared to Witcher 3, but other than that I found it better than most open world games. That and the disastrous launch.

Good for Cdpr. Looks like they got a second chance. They should be really careful next time.

Went back and played the game recently after last patches and am about to end it. The game is really good (not as good as Witcher 3). So well deserved.

Bad excuse. They shouldn't have bothered putting cars in the game if they can't program basic things like ai car chases.

Only if chasing with police was some massive part of the gameplay or something, it's not: you can play entire game and never fuck with police once. You can list lack of good police/traffic ai as an issue (and it is) but in reality it doesn't have fucking anything to do with majority of the gameplay, cars are just here to move from point A to point B (just like real life LOL) and missions set at these points are the main selling points of this title.

Overall Cyberpunk is quite amazing, I like that more people are discovering this right now (and anime is even fucking better).

Enjoyed it on PC first time round. Did they add anything new since launch or is it all just housekeeping?

Thankfully, they're adding the police system in a future update. They announced that at a recent stream with the expansion.

Personally, I didn't mind. If that is a deal breaker for y'all though, hold out until it gets here.

Oh, I will die on the same hill. It's a brilliant game.

I'm happy for the devs.

I'm one of those returning they tweeting about. I lasted about 5mins before I uninstalled the game again. Best to wait till they've added actual content with their major DLC before returning I feel.

Yep, I will never let something like the police system impact my enjoyment of this awesome game. When they add that part in perhaps it will add that much more to the experience, but I'm surviving without it right now.

Eh many promised features are still not in the game, there is still ugly pop-in and distance rendering, so I wouldn't say that it has been fixed in the complete meaning of the term. But the performance has been improved (but it worsened on the PS5 in the latest patch for some reasons, as some people are reporting)

Happy for CDPR. They made a mistake with going cross-gen but this doesn't mean that the game is trash. Another mistake was to market the game a bit like a cyberpunk GTA, which it is clearly not.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
i am not sure how much did consoles contribute to that million number. We only see signs of it performing very well on Steam

I've been playing on PC since launch and I loved the game right from the start. It's easily in my top 3 favorite. But it was a mistake to release it on old gen. I'm very happy that the game is doing well because I really hope that we see a sequel in the future that builds up on it.

Even if it has flaws, it's one of the rare games I love playing over and over because it has such an incredible atmosphere, I find it truely special. And with the ever growing mod support, you can really taylor it to your liking (on PC of course). I will take CP2077 over almost any other open world that is not The Witcher 3.

What a turnaround. Cyberpunk went from an unprecedented disaster that nearly killed CDPR to a beloved game that is getting rave reviews, increased fanbase and shows on Netflix. They rebooted the game in a very impressive way.

I started playing too, I thought it was a good time to give it a chance and the PS5 version seems to be much better so far.
