God of War Ragnarök – Hands-on gameplay report

sounds like 4 modes on PS5

Resolution = 2160p 30 Hz
Performance = 2160p DRS 60 Hz

Resolution 120 Hz = 2160p 40 Hz
Performance 120 Hz = 2160p DRS unlocked VRR

HDMI 2.1 shouldn't be required for those modes above. 2.1 isn't required for 120fps when at lower resolutions such as 1440p.
The console outputs as 2160p 120 Hz, thus the 2.1 requirement.

In the VCG it's said it looks so much better than the previous one but I'm just not seeing it. (not just basing this on screenshots but also all the footage they've released).

I'm glad there is more enemy variety though!

Game isnt even out and some of you clowns have decided how good it is already. Lol jesus yall need to grow up
?

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the game will be good based on their performance from the last one, provided (Nu)God of War is your cup of tea. That being said, I'm not going to pre-order it and will wait for reviews.

You can change the resolution in the settings. I had to do that to get rid of some HDCP handshake scanline that slowly strolled down the screen that happens with 4K once in a blue moon. I just switched to 1080p then back to 4K and it resynced properly and was gone.
Yes and 1440p is also an option now, but there are no dynamic change of output, so it's better to just use a HDMI 2.1 cable if your system supports it.

This game is a PS5 exclusive, no PC port has been announced. Like GT7, HFW, TLOU, Dreams, Rift Apart, Demon's Souls or GoT to name a few relatively recent ones.

Sony will port a few games per year to PC, not all their games. In fact they'll release more new PS5 only games than PC ports per year, which means that over time the total amount (not only for that year) of PS only games will increase, not decrease. So this game may end being ported to PC or may not.
They ported the first one, it wouldn’t make any sense to not port the second one. Question is how long it would take, they haven’t outlined any strategy here so it might be a year or four years. = Double dip.

Why was my post deleted for trolling? I truly meant that this game looked great and that cross gen was a good thing at least for now. Look at what talented devs like these guys and Capcom, and playground can do with cross gen. The ps4 was never maxed out. Bring it to it's knees. Make it run games at 720p sub 30 fps like the PS3 was doing in 2013 2014

It's all about developer talent. Blobber team can't make frogger run on a ps4.

Besides. I love that the game is cross gen. Lower end PCs like mine should be able to run it!

This is a bit frustrating.

But yeah, probably the only thing I’ll notice being a nuisance I’ll notice in regards to the game being crossgen.

Fextralife said it has the best textures he’d ever seen in a game which bodes very well because I’m all about them textures.

It would make more sense to port GoW2018 and not Ragnarok to use it as a bait to sell PS5s than what they did: to port GoW2018 without having ported the previous ones before.

The strategy they outlined is that they won't port all their PS Studios to PC and that the ones ported will be released generally years after their original PS release, but will depend per game, being the fastest at least a year for the SP focused/no GaaS ones and in the case of the GaaS some of them might be on PC day one.

More enemy and boss variety. Everything else was already great structure wise.

Except of course:

"Ragnarok has so many “slide through the crack in the wall” loading screens just in the intro and first area alone. "

yuck

Yes. Elden Ring pushed and improved upon the already hugely popular Souls format, and gave us the most creatively crafted, innovative, and densely populated open world, offering compelling main and side content that never gets dull, even after 100 hours.

GoW:R will be an absolutely brilliant game, but it will be a continuation of the first game... without looking like it'll innovate all that much.

Elden Ring will still be GOTY.

This game has PS6 level graphics when you connect it to a OLED.

Surely Elden Ring can't match that.

This is exactly what I was referring too with my earlier remark. I don't think its unreasonable to be a bit frustrated with this if you're a PS5 owner.

Sorry but I don’t believe for a second that they’re porting games to PC to lure PC-only gamers to buy a PS5 or that PC-only gamers would buy a PS5 just to play games Sony don’t port.
I think they’re porting games to sell more games. Both to PC-only gamers and also to PS5+PC gamers who double dip for better visuals and performance.

My body is so ready for this.
Got a Collectors edition with a pretty good discount late September and I can't wait to play it!

You have mastered the art of backhanded compliments when it comes to a certain console/publisher, I'll give you that...😉
Don't worry, the same Fextralife also said this game has the best texture work he's ever seen.

As for feeling the same, almost all these games in the series were like this. You start off, and you need to get stronger and unlock new abilities, etc..

Most games are like this, especially in the same series. "Nothing new" would be hyperbole, however. Right off the rip Kratos is faster in combat.

Ha! Knew it all along:
Playing this on my PS4, the system it was designed for.

*Laughs at Gotham Knights
in general.

Sigh.

Everyone expected this, but still disappointing to see.
I must be the only one that doesn't mind them too much. I like the close up view to see the textures, and while I know they are used to hide loading into the new areas (more often than not), it ads a hair of suspense sometimes when you come out the other side into a jaw dropping sight.

Kind of like when you're out exploring certain state parks and you come around a view blocked rocky area and it opens up to an amazing hidden waterfall.
