Superman 1978 - The 3 Hour Cut

I bought and watching the 3-hour version of Superman from the 70s with Christopher Reeve.

There's so many things I didn't realize or catch when I was a kid, such as they mentioned The Phantom Zone by name and that it is a different dimension.

I'm noticing scenes that I definitely don't remember some of the original version. I have seen the 3-hour cut when it was on television when I was a little kid. Specifically, I remember the scene where Lex Luthor was lowering the girl into a lion pit and Superman saves her. That was never in the original theatrical version.

This is the best superhero movie ever made.

Well I found Infinity War to be one of the best theatrical experiences and a ton of fun, Superman from 1978 still holds up as the best superhero movie ever made.

I always looked forward to Christmas as a kid, jumping off couches while the theme played. Was played more often than Star Wars.

And I'd seen SW sooner. Just seemed more bombastic.

I collected both as comics later in my teens. Superman was always the same shit. Star Wars also got that part right admittedly but they went over different publishers.

Still the theme music is more memorable for me as kid. No streaming then, just ads and a date and time.

In my opinion, it takes special people to make a convincing Superman movie in that time period. These days a bunch of CGI is just thrown everywhere. Back then, you had to work at making it believable.

Man of Steel is plenty believable. People just didn't like to see a Superman with flaws.

Also people just can't get off that fucking John Williams theme (as good as it is) but it belongs to a different era of Superman and will never work in the modern age. It sounds campy as fuck when paired with Man Of Steel.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
At some point someone will get a superman game right knowing he's a huge super hero, plus 1) batman games as evidence of good super hero games 2) superman isn't only about flying around, he's about strength, lex luther, getting people to safety.

This movie gives time for the characters to breathe. And it is beautiful for it. You can really feel that Clark feels out of place and that he is lonely because he isn't like anyone. It is a wonderful film.

(spoilers for those not caught up on the DCEU films)

Williams’ theme sounded pretty damn epic as Henry Cavill’s Superman stared down Black Adam, so

Christopher Reeve had insane charisma. He really was perfect for the role.
There's some ridiculous stuff like Lois's poem and the time travel scene though. When I was a kid I thought he made time go backwards by spinning earth the wrong way lol.

I watched this last night and in no way to 3 hours seem to go by. For all intent purposes, it seemed like a 2-hour movie to me. Maybe it's because I was enjoying it so much again that I didn't realize whatever extra was in there.

Burton’s Batman movies shit on every other super hero movie from great heights
I wouldn't say they shit on other movies that have superheroes but the first and second Batman were awesome as hell and probably my favorite superhero movies after Superman. Yes, I even like the second one with the penguin. I thought it was a shitload of fun and felt very Christmasy at the same time.

But...that's what he did, right?

Or are we supposed to believe that he flew back in time, fixed stuff, then couldn't wait around and so he went forward in time again? I seem to recall it very clearly that he spins the earth backwards, stops Lex or whatever, then has to spin the earth back forward again.

Def need to watch again. Someone should deep fake Cavill in this, though Reeves is still my Superman.

Haha maybe I was right all along then. I figured perhaps it had something to do with him going faster than the speed of light, although that's only slightly less retarded.

I can't believe they took out Luthers machine gun and fire tests from the theatrical version. They were so cool.
