PlayStation is for grown ups this is where things are bad for Nintendo they don’t see adults.

Insane numbers. It's a phenomenal game but I didn't expect 5.1 million in a week.

That's multiplat numbers.

Just imagine if Sony wasn't so short sight stubborn heads and released it already in the Switch.

I’m really enjoying it, have been avoiding the OP to stay away from spoilers.

They got the perfect voice actor for Odin.

Richard Schiff from The Good Doctor.
Ryan Hurst is fantastic as Thor too.

The casting is perfect. Hurst as Thor is sublime and he deserves his own game on the motion capture alone. Schiff as Odin is perfection. In Norse mythology Odin is sneaky and scheming and he brings that to the forefront. One of the best games of all time easily surpassing GOW 2018 for me and that in itself is a steep mountain to climb.

Best game I've played all year. Its better than GoW 2018 for me personally. It has been a long while since I spent 4+ hours or so on a game in one sitting. Pretty disappointed that we wont be getting any DLC or expansions, I felt there were some stories left to be told still, but the it has been a very fulfilling experience.

What?

The Norse mythology in Ragnarok was completely ruined by Atreus. Odin in Ragnarok is a mix of Odin and Loki and a modern corny mob boss with raven fast-travel.

This is awesome but also makes me think cross gen will be a practice for a looooonng time. As in we'll be playing PS5 games well into the 2030s to keep breaking sales records. The combined install base of PS4 and PS5 helped a lot, I'm sure.

That's great news. I sincerely hope they bring it to PC next fall at the latest since I'd love to play through it again there.

I think that is kinda the point. Odin is supposedly lying and manipulating the truth, therefore for the Aesir, Loki is depicted as trickster.

I don’t think they ever aiming for accuracy here, same way they didn’t with Greek mythology in old God of War games.

A DLC for the
giant
plotline would have been great. Make Vidar the big bad or something as well as
Surtr's
wife.

And on PlayStation once they all complete the first. I keep telling them they should start the series with GOW3 remastered.
I… I’ve never played that one. Or the second. Or the first besides maybe an hour. I did look up a story summary on Youtube though to better understand who this grumpy bearded man with face paint was lol

GOW2018 is still my favorite Sony game so I don’t think it’s needed to have played the pre-reboot games. I never got the feeling that getting the blades was awesome though, that’s about it. I always liked the axe more, less button-mashing, still like it more even though the blades are clearly better in this game.

GOW the first time you play, it means so much more when you've at least played GOW3 first. Zeus, Athena and the blades carry so much more weight. You really understand why he's so grumpy and why he protects his son so much.

I'd personally recommend people watch a short video summarising GOW1/2, chains and ghost of Sparta. As they're dated. But GOW3 is newer and is still an excellent game. It's also not long to complete. Different style of game so no chance of burnout.

What do you mean by paced higher?
The first TLOU at least wasn't at over 10M after a year and half for sure. TLOU2 also never "dropped off a fucking cliff" considering even this year it has been top 20 in europe multiple months, and just last week it was #18 in the UK in a time plenty of games are on sale. Clearly interest is there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game was at 12M or 13M by now. Surpassing 20M in 7 years is just a matter of time, specially after the eventual PS5 sku.

Yep, which is why it will ultimately fail.

Should have just licensed it to an anime company, you know the thing sony has a complete monopoly on already lol
Nobody but Sony gives a fuck about Anime. I can't believe people complain.... about Sony having a monopoly. Like be thankful someone is promoting it.

The bottom of the top 20 in Europe is like 3000 units sold. #18 in the UK is like 1500. If it didn't chart in those markets it would be a disaster.

The original TLOU was released at a completely different time and follows different sales patterns. It sold 1.3 million in 7 days, and that was a record on the PS3. It continued to sell 3.4 million over 3 weeks.

The sequel sold 4 million in a few days and likely sold around 6-7 million in its first month if not more. That means it took 2 years to go from 6-7 to 10. That is over 2 holiday seasons on 2 consoles. That is weak for a monster game like that.

Remember what Jimbo said? "Success begets success."

God of War (2018) was a commercial success and raked in way over half a billion dollars. That led to an even bigger and more awesome God of War Ragnarok, which will likely again bring roughly $500 million in profits.

Now imagine, with all that success, how epic and ambitious the next Santa Monica games would look like. 🔥
