Callisto Protocol Devs ask for patience... and deserve none

The audacity of them to ask for patience. Maybe release a finished game first? The PC version clearly wasn’t finished, and, given the PS5 and Xbox versions, likely would be a good game even if it was. We, the people, the customers, have shown patience. We didn’t demand you release the game unfinished.

Fixed that for you.

For those saying it runs perfectly on console... great... delay the PC release then...

But they didn't do that, again because they wanted to capitalize on their marketing dollars.

Hilarious to see some people shilling for con-artists here.
Game was fixed on PC within HOURS of release, which would not have been possible if they had intentionally tried to swindle. Someone published the wrong build on PC, they pushed their ready-to-go patch, and I've had nearly zero issues with performance in the 10 hours I've played on PC post-patch vs game-breaking stutter every few seconds on night of release

This appears to be an accident, and whoever is responsible is probably going to be shitcanned and blacklisted, but this isn't the same case as BF 2042, Cyberpunk, and Arkham Knight where it took MONTHS to improve the state of the game

Imagine simping for a videogame developer.

"It's their first game, they tried their best, it's a nice throwback to simpler times, works fine for me"

Meanwhile these assholes have no problem a) selling you their broken game for 60 bucks, and b) shoveling out season pass DLC bullshit before the game is even out. And don't get me started on the actual quality of the game's design.

The sheer audacity of taking your hard-earned money, give you a broken game in return and then [and only then] say "yeah we know our game is broken but please have some patience with us". How can anyone be okay with this? I swear to god this only happens in the videogame industry. Imagine buying a music album and the first 4 songs are busted and they go "yeah well you know, we're gonna fix it at some point, just give us some time okay. But thank you for your purchase".

Their entire objective is to make as much money as possible. All the bullshit about "The first AAAA-game in the world", pure nonsense. They are not our friends, all right? And then you have guys like this who say "go easy on them". Man get outta here.

Have some standards.

The game still has compilation stutter. I dropped Elden Ring and Ghostwire Tokyo for the same exact reason. Why would I want to go through a game that realistically I'm only going to play once full of hitching every time something new gets introduced on the screen.

I’m guessing this is mostly PC version, because I had no issue on my PS5 when it comes to its performance.

Jesus, you didn't like the game big fucking whoop. At least it is a new IP.

This is exactly the kind of hot take that buries a game, and dissuades devs from branching out (especially in the survival horror genre, which we barely get any games in anymore).

I wouldn't really consider this a AAA game. It's more like a Control or Hellblade AA-budget game that is punching above its weight class because it's a graphical showcase and has a big marketing campaign.

I hope they clean up the technical issues but it sounds like a 7/10 regardless.

That is the point. Just because its running nice on one platform, doesnt excuse the lackluster launch on other platforms.

If a dev launches their game, they need to be in acceptable condition on all platforms.
My point is Cyberpunk WASN'T running well on any platform, including PC. It was just running so incredibly bad, to the point that of being unplayable on Xbox One and PS4, people ignored the fact the PC version was a mess itself.

So you're trying to outrage the mob for the state you believe a game you never played and had no intention to play is in?

Go away.
I kind of agree on this one.

If OP doesn't even own the game then the outrage is on others behalf.

That doesn't change the fact the game launched in an terrible state, granted, but we are all responsible for our own personal expenditure and it's not really for others to pass judgement...at least that's my opinion.

Xbox and PC issues should not affect or even mislead PS5 players.
I am playing the game and it's pretty good with only technical issue being HDR raised black levels

If I had only three games to play per year I'd be. But with so many games coming left and right and the prices they're asking my patience is close to nil.

I'm done with buying and waiting for them to fix shit (in this scenario, the PC version) and to have the most basic technical stability beyond "it runs".

Deliver first, then get the money.

Yeah, patience is a reasonable thing to expect before a game has actually released. Once it does it should work properly. Not saying it's inexcusable to ship with a few minor bugs, it's very hard to catch and fix absolutely everything with how complex games are nowadays, but there's a difference between a few bugs and a broken unplayable mess.

I've played this on PS4 and PS5. Nothing wrong with it in comparison to say Skyrim or Fallout 76. Talking out your arse.

Nobody is complaining about the PS5 version AFAIK (don't know anything about the PS4 version really). PC and Xbox versions launched in a pretty broken state.

The observer bias is strong on this one.

The hostility against this game and the company - especially Glen - as a whole is real.

If you put the performance issues on PC (and only PC) aside, you'll realize the game is pretty good outside a select few subjective issues such as the combat (which, IMO, it's good but needs time to master), replayability and the game's length.
The majority of console users enjoy this game. Possibly more than PC users since they face little performance issues in comparison to PC.

Speaking of PC, it took less than 24 hours for the developers to release a patch that fixes most stuttering issues for most players. I doubt I have seen such a quick response much less from AAA games but it's there.
The OP reeks of Dead Space overexaggerated fanboyism who expected The Callisto Protocol would be a 100% replica of Dead Space when it isn't.

So, yes, the developers need time and deserve praise for the game they created outside the technical side.

Reposting this because I think that article is missing key information and is now outdated, and I'm not sure if users get tagged in edits. I was ready to hop on the hate bandwagon with you all, since I'd bought and tried to play the game at release, but it won me back.

The game was fixed on PC within HOURS of release, which would not have been possible if they had intentionally tried to swindle. As far as I can tell per Glen Schofield's tweets on Friday, someone at Striking Distance published the wrong build on PC, Striking Distance then pushed their ready-to-go patch, and I've had nearly zero issues with performance in the 10 hours I've played on PC post-patch vs game-breaking stutters every few seconds on night of release

This appears to be an accident, and whoever is responsible is probably going to be shitcanned and blacklisted, but this isn't the same case as BF 2042, Cyberpunk, and Arkham Knight where it took MONTHS to improve the state of the game

Apologies if this is annoying and you were already tagged in the other post. I'd just hate to see fewer AAA games trying new things like this game does because outrage media wants to group this game into the existing "broken games at launch" narrative

This doesn't deserve a thread of its own, you could have posted this in any of the other threads about this game.
People love to dogpile or feel like they are the flagbearer for a righteous cause, in which case this isn't. It's a fucking videogame with issues, they're aware of it and so are the people who actually purchased it, which the op didn't. Believe it or not their are actually more important things going on in the world that the op could focus their attention on, which will come as a surprise to them I'm sure.

This outrage is so dumb to me.

If you have a doubt of the condition of the game, don't pre order it.

(Proabay not smart to pre-order a game without demo)

Everyone else can make a choice for themselves.

What is getting upset going to do outside of wasting time?

It's like people forgot what personal responsibility is.

Within less than 24 hours*
I didn't do precise math and I won't but someone said it took them precisely 20 hours to fix the issues.

Compare it with Cyberpunk 2077, BF2042 which took them more than 24 days weeks+ to solve serious issues.

This happens every single time a game releases and it ends up having issues, people pretend as if personal responsibility was never an option. Those same people also say "never again!" then the next game with issues launches and there they are once again complaining cause they got burned. These people deserve to be let down over and over cause they obviously can't be patient or use their brain.

I always find people angry/upset/offended over something like this, super weird.

It's like they go out their way to find something to be upset/offended over.

Is this you OP?!

The insane amounts of hate this game is getting is insane, what triggered all of this? It's a decent game, must be years since i've seen so much hate and directed at such an inoffensive game

Is this another culture war issue because Glen Schofield "bragged" about crunch?

"“It’s ship day dude, mistakes happen,” Schofield said to a PC player. “Every process is new too. We’ve stress tested everything but man this is complicated code. We even had to build the publishing team so we’ve had our hands filled for 3.5 years. Please bare with me.”

Wow he really said that like that? "Its ship day dude"....wow what a dick. Be better

I’ve bought the game day 1 and finished it a week later (85 hours).
It worked way better than some other games and it for sure was not a mess.

I consider the Dead Space trilogy some of the best games ever, flaws and all.

Callisto Protocol is more stuff like that, just less so. I'm not hurrying anywhere. I can wait 2 years for this to get polished. It would've been if it was perfect on release, but we live in modern times.

The only serious issue I have is that the weapon select is busted and often gives me a different weapon to the one I chose. Needless to say, this presents problems. In fairness though this is only an issue that comes up during boss fights.

Otherwise, it's a damn good game that I'm enjoying the hell out of and will be replaying immediately.

In the real world the problem with the shader compilation was fixed within a day.

That’s the problem with these articles. They’re not asking players for patience, they’re asking PC players for patience. The game runs well on PS5 but if you state the truth, that only PC has serious issues, it will minimize the issue and therefore minimize clicks to these gaming sites.
If you have a PS5 I would recommend it, the complaints about the combat are incredibly stupid, I’m destroying fools left and right with my baton and hand cannon in 4 v 1 fights, the dodge is very easy to do and so satisfying to pull of and then punish.

If you come here expecting Dead Space combat you’re going to have a bad time, this is not a shooter, this is a melee driven combat, the guns are support weapons.

I actually love what they’ve done with the combat, it’s easy to learn, hard to master and not like anything in other games, which is a plus in my book.

It’s a fantastic effort by a small team to deliver this in a very short time frame, Im sure the sequel will be more polished, and I’m going to be there day one.
The complaints about difficulty are stupid, yes. Those are simply people who don’t like when things are different, were expecting a full-on shooter, or suck at games. The game is not difficult, it just has a learning curve.

I have an issue with the combat design and its influence on the rest of the game. I don’t know if it was the best choice, but I applaud the effort to try something new. If they make some tweaks to it it might even become really good.

What are you doing playing at 30fps? Disgusting. Switch to performance mode and turn on motion sensor aiming. The game gains 3 points to its Metacritic score when you do.
