Batfleck No More: James Gunn and Peter Safran exploring how to make Battison canon to the DCU

They even have him mangling/killing(?) people in the new DC game in homage to Conroy's voice work in that trailer.

All of the JL characters are killing people in that game because that's the story. They're mind controlled or something and Task Force X is sent in to kill them.

So, the Batman who straight up murders goons in a warehouse fight where he performs grossly exaggerated superhuman feats of strength that no human could accomplish… or the Batman who takes down an entire swat team, killing no one, in a display of strategic genius, as well as physical prowess, using the gadgets at his disposal.

Fuck me. Anyone who bangs on about how great Batfleck is has never read a fucking Batman comic, I swear to god 😂

You guys don’t want Batman. You want The Punisher in a bat costume. Very little about Batfleck is actually who and what Batman is. He’s Zack Snyder’s dudebro , thick as shit wet dream, not anyone’s idea of how to do the character well.

You seem to be unable to disconnect the actor and the Batman appearance from his actions in the movie.

We're not talking about script, we're talking about actors, suits, looks and appearances. Batman killing people in BvS has nothing to do with Affleck being a good Batman / Bruce Wayne.

Look at this fucking guy. How is he not the perfect Batman?

I will stan for this man until the day I die.
He looks like he's suited up in a low budget costume from target to head to a local comic-con.

I'm all for Bob's Batman. Let's goooooo

Tag, you're it.
I thought he had a suit tech that caused the strength enhancements just to take on Supe? And yes, Dark Horse Batman (where vs Superman was introduced) he was savage and mangled people.

The full message of BvS is that Batman killing people is EFFECTIVELY bad.
But somehow some people turned their brain off after a certain moment or just don't want to understand.

That Twilight boy batman... hmm. It just felt like he was always losing, chasing the villain than actually anticipating and getting him with all the power and arsenal.
Literally, he looked like weakest Batman ever. Kinda had to force my way to the end... I do like the look of him, but it was just only dark and gloom with zero humor too.

But Batman has killed in the comics before. In fact many superheroes have gone down this path. I'm sure if you googled if ironman has killed before in the comics you'll find that he has.
I liked Snyder's idea that these characters are initially flawed. That gave the characters room to grow into the ones we know and love.

These are movies so creatives are going to be taking creative liberties with how these characters perform, their levels of strength etc. After all its a movie and not meant to be a 1:1 representation of the strength of an ordinary guy.

Nolan's version of Batman was also grounded in reality so the combat scenarios were always going to portray realistic feats of strength and endurance from the character.

I appreciated the efforts to show an unhinged Batman in a less than glamorous light. Might not have been everyone's cup of tea but at the end of the day everyone has their opinion on who and what Batman should be. The source material is there as a guide but any creatives taking on these projects will add their own twist to it.

I think maybe you were expecting too much from a year 1 Batman. He's only just started.

The Batman(2021) was one my biggest disappointments. I looked forward to Battinson, but that version was just a mopey emo dude. And the way he walked ever so slowly towards thugs instead of using shadows and stealth made me bored.

I see - that's more understandable. I kinda thought he felt way too green, and even the bat mobile looked like just a souped up muscle car... and figured its rather early in his career - but wasn't quite sure of the timeline. I would have liked more superior abilities though.

Yeah the bat suit, his weapons and gear is going to improve as he finds his feet doing his shit in future movies lol. I mean that's what I've read about this version of the character in interviews with the director.

I do hope they'll add a bit of humor though. It did feel like a hard-boiled detective story chasing the villain, but it was just so dry. :)

The Office Thank You GIF

Seriously, why people are so dense in getting this is beyond me. Or maybe they’re feigning stupidity in a desperate attempt to shut down any argument purely because they don’t like Affleck’s performance. Regardless, it’s beyond obnoxious.

We’re praising Affleck’s performance. The script is a separate factor.

I love Bale as the character but he wasn't intimidating for me. Like you fancy yourself against him in a fist fight.
One look at Ben and you'd want to check if the local hospital has a spare bed in the ICU.

…..okay, I can’t remember if he did the same for TDK and Rises, but Bale muscled up quite a lot for Begins. So no, 99+% of people on this forum would NOT fancy themselves against him in a fist fight. If you’re a professional fighter or some shit, sure, but Dave from Accounting is going to last seconds before his ass is on the floor crying in pain.

This would have been a better way to put it in my initial reply. Thank you.

If you want a skittles commercial with an attempt to make you laugh every 30 seconds their are plenty of Marvel movies to choose from.
Well, every batman that I know and watched had at least some sense of humor. Even Nolan's trillogy as well. I think that's part of a charm for any super hero movies.

I hate WB, they don’t deserve the DC rights. And Gunn can bugger off too.
Should’ve 100% stayed with Snyder but WB was too interested in trying to make Marvel money with no lead up.

Also Cavill news is actually trash. I’ve read DC my entire life and never cared for Superman till his portrayal.

Hope he has the best of luck on future projects. Was hoping we’d get at least one more solo film, but alas.

But dear god, WB, the first Superman solo film with a new actor, no Lex and no Zod! They’re great villains but let’s do others for a chance. Brainiac preferably.

It's always like this when some new manager comes along. They know better so they need to change everything.

Without Witcher and Superman, hopefully we'll see Cavill's triumphant return on Onlyfans.

I don't think Snyder was the answer for DC, but I didn't want a complete reset either.

I thought The Suicide Squad was a perfect way to handle it. A sequel that existed in the universe but wasn't pushing a connected universe too heavily.

I trust Gunn will make a good Superman film and like Joker and The Batman this can do well due to the popularity of the character. But I think MCU level success for their B and C level characters is going to be hard to muster though, even if high quality. Even a superb movie like The Suicide Squad bombed at the box office.

I like the idea of a total reset. They are basically going in a bolder direction than the MCU which is just dragging alone a dead horse

If they end up working the Reeves/Pattinson Batman in a new DCCU I am expecting them to be leaning into how each major city in the DC comics have very unique, exaggerated presentations like Reeve's vision of Gotham. So Metropolis will really look like the City of the Future in a way we haven't seen before on film. Etc. Also guessing the universe will feel more grounded overall on an inter-character level, as it appears in Peacemaker.

I had a feeling everything would be changing when Gunn took over, I was just expecting all of the big moves to be announced after Flashpoint so they could milk their fans for the final appearances of Affleck, Cavill, and and Gadot.

He's prob gonna cast his brother in all the roles, he'll be Superman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman.

My main issue with Gunn is that he has a very over-the-top style that makes all his movies feel the same, Suicide Squad is basically Guardians of the Galaxy on earth. It had its moments, but it was kinda forgettable. Also not a fan of the Robbie character, if people want Charlez Martienz for the Mario role just look at Harley Queen and understand you can't listen to that annoying shit for more than a minute.

Anyways, I guess we'll have to wait 2-3 years before seeing anything. But until then, we'll hate.
