Street Fighter 6 beta

Had a quick go on this last night, ended up right away in match against a ken and button mashed and got beat, then picked a server that was very quiet and just headed to a corner and managed to get a hr practise on all the charachters, but got tonight and took tomoro off work so can have a good practise with juri, kimberly, jamie, then pick one of them and hopefully have a few online matches before beta finishes

Just so you guys know, PS4 sticks don't work in SF 6, or at least not in this beta...
Now what to do... Buy a new one or go the padhack route, like I did converting my SFIV PS3 stick so I could use with PS3 and PS4 games... Is there any cheap PS5 controller?
I was really busy yesterday but snuck in a little bit of play using my Hori Octa fightpad. I really miss the Hori Fight Commander btw, this Octa directional pad is gross compared to its predecessor, as is the overall build quality

I’ll give my TE2 fightstick a try and see if this PS4 stick works for this beta (on my PS5).

Are you trying to use an officially licensed PS4 stick or nah?

Holding the parry drains Drive Gauge, but it's automatic. Timing the parry is harder, but gives you Drive Gauge on success as well as a slow down on physical hits. Maybe read up on the game more, but I get what you are saying in general. It does feel strange, more so than either SFIV or SFV did, but that's honestly what I love about this series. Every game stands on it's own.

Vesper has done a good job at explaining and exploring everything in the game so far.

Thank you - appreciate it. Ill study up a bit before I try again today. The game just feels so weird to play to me. Very jarring.
I always sucked at SFIV's focus dash cancel stuff - and this green dash thing in 6 seems very similar to that - but also vital to the combos. Not sure If I have that kind of precise execution.

If anyone cares - the Xbox One/360 Hori Fighting Commander works on this game. All buttons mappable even the LT LB side which are technically the stick clicks (in some modern games those dont map - but they do here). Im not sure how easy the pad is to find in the wild these days though.

I use a PS3 SF IV fight stick TE with a board from a PS3/PS4 MK fightpad, aka, padhack. Used without problems with my PS3 and PS4 games, including SFV in my PS5.

So I'm playing the beta for the first time and.... Capcom's going the woke route? The dude named Eternity in the intro, the woke character options, etc...
I didn't expect that

edit: Started winning matches once I figured out there was a modern vs classic control system.
Also, people can make some pretty cursed looking characters:

edit 2: So far my impressions are that the game is okay overall but I feel like it's the worst SF main entry so far. Well, if you don't include SF1. I may wait for a sale or just grab the 2nd iteration whenever that comes out, not sure. I wish the game hadn't gone the woke route.

Some things online. Haven't been able play it myself this time around outside of the first couple of hours so far.

And then Vesper ran into this Chun player lol

He has the whole set here

Now that I've been able to put some more time into this game I do plan to get it day one. I must be super rusty though because I've only managed to win a single match so far...

Same, only won one match, but admittedly it’s been a busy weekend with other things so far (and I didn’t have Friday off).

Doesn’t feel like enough time in this beta period for me to dabble with more characters, so Guile is the only one I can be somewhat competitive with for now.

Dropped a small reservation deposit at my local GameStop today for the Collector’s Edition in case I really want it come June…

Man I love this game. Currently on a 9-win streak and gonna take a break. Punishing Drive Impact with your own is so deadly (playing with sound on is a must, in order to immediately pull out your own as soon as you hear their character “announce” their DI).

Will be a long wait til June.

Love the gameplay in this one, massive step up from SF5 (at least at release, I didnt keep up with 5 enough to say how it is now) but fuuuck me that character creator and everything surrounding it, from the poses to the styles to the presenter..."dude"?. Very much not aimed at me.

Dropped Ken and decided to play Kim who I am having loads more fun with 💪

I'm still pretty pants, but I think when I have set ups and other stuff/more time with the game, I'm hoping I'll be able to become a good player :)

Looks like there's gonna be so many Kimberly's when this comes out, unless she's nerfed into the ground by release and I hate that. Her design is fucking awful I dont wanna have to keep seeing it every match with her stupid hair and stupid walk animations. eurgh.

Can you not use the Fight Commander?

I think there is much stronger characters than Kimberley, I would say maybe Guile is the strongest?

Kimberly decimates casual/inexperienced players. Her overhead and crossup mixes are beyond godlike and are a nightmare for casuals to deal with.

She seems like she was created to give raw Drive Impact and "hold to parry" players Scanner level aneurysms

I can imagine guile zoning will make casuals throw their controller and want to smash their console 🤷‍♂️

Casuals hate nothing more than being zoned out, then again I don't think veterans enjoy fighting zoners.

Just wait till we get the armoured characters and grapplers, thinking about it I don't think casuals will enjoy fighting anyone remotely competent online tbh.

Edit: is anyone at all playing Chun Li?

I feel like I've seen everyone but Chun li.

& I have only fought one Kimberley and they were bad, but I watched mustard play and it made me want to try Kimberley :)

Yep, me too, but, in my case, for PS4 games. Haven't used in a PS5 one yet.

It's hit or miss. GGST will let you use a PS4 stick in PS4 mode. It didn't allow you to use all PS4 sticks if you were in the PS5 version. Fixing is a simple enough mod.

Guile legit has the longest combos in the game if you have the execution 👀
Be able to start, and have a charge from down medium -> down medium -> charge stored is amazing. Possible to play somewhat aggressively with him instead of just traditional style of zoning and storing charges all the time.

I feel bad for those who really wanted to get in but didn't. I got in day 1 and I barely touch it. The game is dope. I just don't care. Probably getting to0 old.

Unfortunately my fight commander is on the Xbox side of the console fence :(. I’m firmly in team PS5 this gen.

Fair enough. I'm actually starting to wonder now if the PS3/PS4 Fighting Commander will be allowed to work on PS5 Software aka Steet Fighter 6.

If not I might have to stick to PC with my fighting games. How is the Octa anyways?

I hated SFV with a passion but I'm excited for this.

Really hope there is a way to play with PS3 TE's, not planning to get new sticks since I barely play fighting games anymore.

I have a PS3/PS4 TE arcade stick and it worked perfectly fine with PS5.

Really enjoyed the beta and already missing the game. I think they nailed it with updating classic characters move-set and the netcode worked like a charm. Just want to spend more time trying out things and being able to play with all the roster!

I saw that Capcom sent me a survey link after the playing the beta. I mentioned all the same things I mentioned above and encourage everyone to share their feedback with Capcom as well.

The Octa’s D-pad is fine for using Guile with, but I tried some Shoto action with it and got annihilated. The small analog thumbstick is an option too, and I might put more time into using qcd/dp characters using it. But using the regular D-pad with non-charge characters is no bueno for me.

Probably going to stick to Guile and Deejay when using my Octa pad, and trying to git gud with my TE2 stick again with the non-charge characters.

I hadn’t clicked with a street fighter game this much since 3rd Strike. SFIV was okay, but I disliked SFV so much that I never even bothered to play it online against other people for its entire run with its various updates/iterations.

Street Fighter 6 feels like a return to form. I didn’t get in on the first beta, but this game almost instantly felt right for me this weekend.

Just some final impressions of the Beta. I ended up liking it in the end despite my initial beefs with it.
I just had to unlearn much of my Street Fighter tendencies - took quite the effort. Slow everything down, focus on counters and hit confirms.

Whats here is a good game - but whats lost is Street Fighters signature, easy to pick up difficult to master. SF2 was fun for everyone. Noobs will stand a less than zero chance in this game. This one seems to be for the FGC community only - especially when people go wild with the green drive stuff. Maybe thats why they are making those easy mode controls.

I ended up logging into 10 hours or so and kept wanting to test more with the parries and such. Somehow I registered in at Platinum thru ranked play by the end of the beta.

The game is similar to Virtua Fighter to me, in that theres so much to think about and look out for, that I ended up having brainfarts on many occasions being overwhelmed by it all. Again, that aspect feels very 'un-street fighter' to me.
It doesnt come close to SF3 imo, but things have to evolve and grow - so I will likely buy this once it drops.

Thanks to A abstract alien KO7 KO7 Celcius Celcius and fallingdove fallingdove for convincing me to give it another shot.

Honestly, every time a new Street Fighter drops, the first time playing it I'm always giving it the side eye. It's new, it's different, and it's being compared to the best and latest version of the last title. After a few updates and balance changes, it always comes around to being an outstanding game. Street Fighter V is still my favorite, but there is a bit of SFV in SF6 as far as core gameplay is concerned. It's still very different though, and I can't wait to see how it carves it's own path like every Street Fighter before it.

Edit: Vesper has another nice informative video on using drive gauge.

Happy to see any extra footage from the game, but would have preffered have two people who played the game play and show off some moves and combos, rather then two presenters that just spammed the same button over and over

I don’t hate her but would have preferred Guy or Zeku.

And also perfect parry is so good it slaps drive impact.

Wait until the end the first one is amateur

I had pretty harsh first impressions of this game - but it completely won me over before the beta weekend was over.
Now weeks later - I need to play it again - like a crack fiend.

The soundtrack is incredible - they arent just going for another stale remix ost. Listen to Blanka's tune if you havent yet.
Capcom is onto something special here.

Hold up DeeJay! His gameplay looking dope. I love that Marisa kicks you while your down after that punch and flexing while walking forward after her level 3. It's the little things.

Blanka looks fun, especially his double roll. I was hoping to see some EX electricity or if that’s even possible. JP reminds me of a KOF boss.
