Should Resident Evil 5 get a remake next?

Ah yes, just alienate a good portion of your established fanbase by throwing away the entire established cast.

Also, Wesker already had a “son”: Jake. And
Alex Wesker
is the one who is alive, which is also not a retcon but was set up via files found in RE 5. They actually do set up a few things, you just have to pay attention. Granted, you’re using the word “retcon” too loosely to begin with. For example, Spencer being inspired by Miranda is not a retcon, it’s just new info being provided without contradicting existing info. If a prior game had Spencer stating his vision for Umbrella was entirely his own without anyone ever inspiring him to do so (and as long as there was no reasonable possibility that he was lying), then 8’s reveal would be a retcon, but I’m pretty sure Spencer never said anything specific like that. Claiming it‘s a retcon is like saying Vader being Luke’s father is a retcon. Yes, nothing in 4 hinted at it, but it didn’t contradict anything barring 6 now having to justify why Obi-Wan lied to Luke.
Finally, someone that understands what a retcon is! A rare breed, for some reason. I swear, people think any new information is a retcon. Retroactively changing continuity, people. I'm sure people must think every prequel ever made is a retcon.

Well after RE4R they're going to have to make a choice. Continue with Remakes or end it there. If they continue with Remakes they basically have three choices:

A. RE1R (so a 2nd Remake)
B. Code Veronica Remake
C. RE5R

I personally hope for Code Veronica Remake because I love the Remake version of Claire, and it's a flawed game that could be improved by a Remake. However that's not how the world works, so they're going to go for RE5, which is one of their best selling entries in the franchise. After that though, either put the Remakes to bed or just make Code Veronica, because nobody wants a remake of RE6.

B is the obvious choice.

Resident Evil 5 I would love to see a remake of.. The coop gameplay in it was second to none, especially local co-op but it needs lots of improvements to the visual style - less piss filter please.

I gotta say, after putting some time into RE4 VR, I would at the very least like to see RE5 get the exact same treatment. RE5 would be a killer VR app: you can select your levels, huge variety of weapons, two player co-op, etc. Honestly, Resident Evil as a franchise is very good for VR capability.

I hold out hope for a CV remake next. But I've been happy with every RE singleplayer output in recent history, so a RE5 remake could be very interesting as well.

Give me a remake of 0, 1, 5, and 6. The one that needs it the most is 6 which just went completely off the fuckin rails. I’d really like that game to be refined and reimagined the way RE2make was.

Resident Evil is a fantastic series. Drag all the games into the glorious light of the RE engine.

Remakes tend to bother me. They feel like a step backwards. They don't really replace whatever is already canon. It's really just funding Capcom's greed.

Jill being absent since '09 though, is depressing. I don't count prequels and remakes, or movies. I mean for anything after RE5, she was never seen in any post Wesker's demise storylines or games since RE5.

From a visuals standpoint I don't think RE5 really needs one, although I remember the combat feeling really sluggish to play at times and just awkward. So in that respect, I wouldn't say no to the idea.

Pretty fun game honestly, as long as you don't compare it to RE4 too much. It's a lot more cinematic I feel and very action orientated, not much survival horror to it.

Nah, do Code Veronica and 1 forget 5 and 6.
Honestly this is a good option to rebalance the game since you can accidentally end up in a no win situation.

That being said, I'd like to see remakes of average games that can be fixed into great ones.

It's plausible they might do Code Veronica, but it'll probably be one of those situations where they hand that project off to a B-Team (like they did with RE3R) while they work on RE9.

In my opinion 1 doesnt need one, I recently played original remake (going through RE fever at the moment) it really surprising how well it aged both the gameplay and visuals.

Keep playing it then...

Its going to get remade.

I don't even get this shit, oh so "I recently played" thus don't remake it now? lol Ok Dan... lolz

Its going to get remade. Over the shoulder, in the new RE engine, 4K, ray tracing etc. I see little reason to not remake it cause you feel it aged like this or like that, that doesn't have shit to do with why Capcom remakes anything. You can play RE4 literally right now, on any major platform and its still getting remade lol

So...RE1 remake...will get a remake and be the remake...of da remake lol They going to call it 2002 remake, remake...remix lol

RECV i feel is very likely to get remade, but same with RE5 and RE6 as we are talking about games 14 years old here.

So all 4 will likely get remade this gen or roll over into next gen as I'm sure the team they have remaking will continue to do that regardless of how any of us feel any of those titles hold up. I mean shit, I'm with you...I think it aged good too, I love RE2002 and Zero and played the shit out of those remasters a few years ago, but its not over the shoulder, in a new engine, 4k assets, new character models or anything like that for anyone to pretend it doesn't need new advancements or something.

One reason some fans opted to dislike the modern remakes is because they probably wanted a RE1 type remake, where everything was mostly faithful and not ruined.

I really don't think RE5 needs a remake, but you never know. They're gonna run out of games to remake after CV comes out...

More like, if it comes out! :D

Yeah, because RE from 2002 doesn't have the same feeling as the 2 and 3 remakes. They feel like different games entirely. So a remake with the RE Engine should get made.

But will it? :(

I myself like RE5, it was something different for the series. Also it's a continuation of the direction in which RE4 pushed the series (or maybe RE3 did that first?). Also playing the game second time with friends on coop was fun.

Remake is a good opportunity to tweak it more for RE fans that don't like the original one. Also it would be a nice indication for RE6 remake - can they make even bigger changes to 'fix' those games. Still I'd like to play Dino Crisis remake first ;).

As for RE1 remake - I don't think that this game needs it. There is already a great remake of it. I played it last year on Switch and it still is good. Changing it to fit the RE2 remake formula won't change much I believe.

Only if they make it more similar to its original version and actually put zombies and a tyrant in it. Otherwise it is a pretty mediocre game.

I've never understood the appeal for 4 and 5 as RE games. They are great action games, but this is when the series dissolved and the horror side of things got lost in the fold. This action shit actually soldiered on for several more years thereafter. It was only once 7 was released, that it all came back bit by bit, until Capcom decided to be money grabbing arseholes again and make RE8 into a P.T. and RE4 wannabe, all rolled into one.

But yeah. RE4 is overrated as a RE game, in my opinion. It's fine if judged as a general game that's not connected to the previous RE lore. But it's barely even a survival horror game.

Amen. But I do think the remake is going to be more like the last two remakes so I'm down. I'm glad to see others who agree about the original though. RE 1-3 were my jam then RE 4 came and made it something else entirely to me. Daytime, non zombies, suplexes, etc.

No. I think its pretty unnecessary

until re4 we had tank movement, so it was awful and in need of a remake

they should focus on creating new games now

Bruv, you're not remembering things right, the first 3 games were never spooky, RE2 pretty much started the action direction, heck in the latter half of the first game you're just blasting away zombies and BOWS with all kinds of weapons; the direction in RE7 is completely new to the series, it wasn't until the first remake that they introduced a more oppressive atmosphere, but that was never how the series was.
RE4 didn't change much action wise compared to RE3, just the camera changed and the introduction of melee attacks.

Nah, what is your age and when did you play the original and 2? When you're 14 years old in 1996 playing RE alone at night was spooky AF. RE2 maybe not as much at age 17, but it was still pretty much the same atmosphere. Tank controls and not seeing what was around a corner vs. roundhouse kicks and being surrounded in the village was way different.

Well, RE3 is still one of the scariest games in the franchise thanks to Nemesis being a constant threat, even if there is a lot of action and the ability to craft ammo. Although if I have to be honest here, like a lot of fans, I never found RE4 to be all that scary, until you had the fights with the chainsaw people, but even that was not really so "scary" and more so just intense gameplay.

RE2 has the iconic Licker scene and a lot of other creepy moments, like when you look at a monitor and see Mr. X has entered the room and he's blocking the only exit.

Yeah. RE basically has always been built around a balance of having a lot of action and horror. But old RE games were generally way more atmospheric, and the creatures and music certainly contributed to that eerie feeling. The games from RE4 onwards feel like Hollywood blockbusters that re-use the same characters, yet none of them are especially scary any more when you think of how many times they've came back and dealt with similar issues, which happens now globally.

RE7 was pretty scary, as they had you controlling Ethan who is a regular man, looking for his wife. Yet once Chris shows up to go into the mines, it just quickly retrogresses itself back into that RE4 style, action crap again. LOL.

God, see my typos.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is coming out soon and with that out of the way Capcom could be thinking what's the next big Remake they could do in the franchise.
There's still Code Veronica and Resident Evil (second remake) in the way for other options.

But since they're sticking with the main ones in order, 2, 3, 4...

Should Resident Evil 5 get a remake? If so, what should and should not be changed?

Let's remember a little bit of RE5:
  • It was the big staple for co-op Resident Evil
  • It brought the real time inventory management
  • Story was all over the place and finally turned RE into anime RE
  • Playing Single Player was a pain in the ass with the poor companion AI
  • There was a lot of controversy calling the game racist because you shoot back people
  • It's the best selling RE game

Better Resident evil 0

Are we already into RE5 nostalgia era? I mean, its a fun game but pretty mediocre. Code Veronica, now that's a God Tier game. Should be remade with the original as an unlockable.

REmake might be the greatest game of all time so Capcom efforts will be futile, can't top that. And besides, whats the alternative? Generic OTS camera? That will make it look like one of those UE4/5 projects. There's a fan project remaking RE1 with the PS1 aesthetic down to a T in first person. Looks amazing.

Code Veronica best OG RE.

Care to share that fan project?

In 2009 some people were outraged about a white man shooting black people in Africa

Do you really think that Capcom will try the same thing in 2023?

Not a chance

Well, assuming they are not doing CV (which would be pretty straight forward except for Wesker maybe), them going on with the Remakes will be very interesting because now I think they are moving into territory where they should do massive re-writing. Doesn't matter if it's RE0 or RE5, I think Capcom know they went overboard with the story here and they would be their chance to do some corrections. I really, really hope they do.

Sure, just played through RE5 back in December or so and it holds up pretty well but could use some QoL improvements like the others have gotten. The game itself is quite fun with a unique setting.
