Forspoken |OT| Shut the cuff up

That looks sick.
The magic system and traversal were always the big (and only) appeal of the game.

And whoever think that fantasy infamous with that amount of power variety is unoriginal or that we have 100 games like this every year, is frankly an idiot or just someone who need to start taking memory pills.

Show me these hundreds of games with super fast acrobatic traversal AND a magic system with like 100 different skills that plays exactly like that video, i'm waiting.

P.s. did you changed your name? Weren't you hunch benchmark or something?

This definitely needs a DF PC optimized settings guide because the game is chunky. I had no problem running around at 4K with AMD Balanced mode, but if you try to turn that bad boy up, expect some crashing.

. . .also hilariously the demo is just the same demo from the PSN, but they haven't updated the language so it still says "Work in progress." Still, PC requirements seem "reasonable" (but what do I know) and definitely looks much better than the PS5 version in quality mode.

Played some today (PS5).

Positively surprised given the consensus on these boards.

I found the story and character set-up really well done. Dialogue so far is not cringe at all but well scripted. For the combat system, think DOTA 2 invoker in terms of skill ceiling and moves with parkour added on top - feels brilliant in my book and I am curious how far they will push it.

The negatives all have to do with the engine and current level of optimization. It is not as good as it should be.

Looking forward to play more tonight.

At least High on Life has stuff like this:

And it got a genuine laughter out of me, which is something that shit like Forspoken will never be able to do, lol.

I still don't understand when and who decided "you can't kill kids in video games" happened. I went on full on massacres in Star Wars Episode 1 on PS1. The game even had unique dialogue if you started killing civilians, and it didn't give a fuck if you killed kids lol

They can't even show a sideboob, imagine killing childrens.

Even in this case it's not really a child but a 30 years old dude.

Maybe since around the time when parents went apeshit over GTA games? Idk, not that it's strictly necessary to have that, especially if the game has somewhat realistic depictions of violence and gore (imagine the media shitstorm), but when you take a swing and nothing happens then it breaks the illusion somewhat.

Also, props for bringing up The Phantom Menace, lol. I played that game like a maniac when I was a kid. One of my favorite childhood games.

I get a feeling that this could've also been a stab at "1000 year old vampire chick" trope, lol.

I say it time and time again. You have to play something yourself to get your own conclusion. The talk on the boards and reviewers is just their own opinions that aren't your own.

Nice to hear you're enjoying it. I will pick it up at some point.

Yeah. I bought Sonic Frontiers not long after it launched and I enjoyed it a ton. I ended up beating it and getting most trophies. I still fire it up now and then to S rank some cyberspace levels in Arcade mode.

100% agreed, the game ain’t winning no GOTY awards but its really fun and the story isn’t that bad.

It reminds me of a lot of the AA sandbox games of the past like prototype. Been enjoying it more than some of the highly rated games that came out last year

Insane pricing.
This is probably the biggest turn off for me personally. I haven't loved what I've seen of this game, but I haven't hated it either. It's got me curious enough that I probably would have impulse bought it at $60, but I am just not happy with the $10 price jump they did this generation. Especially when I can still get a lot of games that I really enjoy playing for $40-50, or even less depending on the age of the game.

So I've played about 90 minutes of this on ps5 120hz quality mode...
wtf is people problem?! The game is great so far. The characters are very relatable and energetic. Story is interesting and the begining is a bit of tear jerker but I might be getting old :messenger_tears_of_joy: . Sadly I have to go to sleep because I would continue playing!
The music in Freys apartment if you take a second and slow down, it's really good. Overall the music is pretty good. I am palying with pulse 3d btw.
I am absolutely loving the vibe of this game so far and the main character. There is nothing wrong with the writing at all yet. People overreact over nothing. Just like they always do. It's not embarrasing to like this normal writing.
The big bad cringe moment from the twits few months ago.... ?! WHAT?! That was it?! That was the cringe moment?! it absolutely fits the character. In fact, I find the dialogue endearing !
And the game looks gorgeous. The only problem being flat lighting, some very simplistic shadows and terrible FSR. I would seriously prefer just lower res rather than fsr which really breaks up in motion. But it's serviceable.

I mean... This is bad graphics?! No shit games take 7 years to develop if people expect every game to be tlou2 quality of production.
It kinda reminds me of Dark Souls 2 - fantastic art and locations, subpar lighting at times, and excellent in others.

I am absolutely happy and satisfied so far. Some shots.

I’m loving this game, people are really dumb. Herd mentality at its finest.

There are people out there playing objectively worse games cause tehy reviewed in the mid 70’s on metacritic over this

Moderated wildly
I'm honestly baffled how much the PC version is out performing the ps5 version from early impressions. Especially for a big exclusive game. Doesn't make sense.

Great to see direct storage 1.1 is the real deal though. Those PC ports won't hold up any devs making games for current consoles.

Reviewers have said what is wrong with the game, it's the bland story, lifeless open-world and generic RPG elements. Just playing for a few hours won't make all that visible yet.

The action combat is fun, the actual traversal is fun, and the story and dialogue isn’t nearly as bad as whats been hinted and shown by those same reviewers so im gonna have to throw a flag on the play

Yes, those things were often mentioned as being the game's strengths but it remains to be seen if they can carry you though all the downsides(the open world being a mayor one).

If they can, great for you. :messenger_ok:

Clearly I’ve only just began.
I never plan to do everything in the open world. I never play open world games this way. That why I dislike horizon. It makes you do too many boring side quests and grind when story waits

If you play this on the PC, it seems like the game requires you to use a SSD. I tried the demo with a regular hard drive and the game was pausing like crazy.

I am wondering if an external SSD drive would work fine. I found a cheap one at Best Buy.

Either that or play it on a PS5.

If you have a regular hard drive then you should be able to throw a SATA SSD in there. Will be quicker and far more reliable than an external SSD.

The USB 3.2 Gen 2 (1050MB/s) external SSDs like the Samsung T7 models might still be good enough too.

That is the cheap refurbished 2TB drive that I found. They got them for $135 at Best Buy. I got an extra usb-c port on the back of the computer I can plug it into.

I was also trying to run this on a PC that has 16GB of ram, but that should still be enough. I suspect the problem was that I was not using a SSD.

16 gigs are enough even at 1440p despite devs claim of it is suitable for 720p very low 30 FPS

Played the demo on PS5 and wasn’t sure why people were trashing it so badly. The combat system definitely had potential, traversal was decent. The UI in and of itself was pretty unique. Going to wait on this though until I finish more of my backlog.

It’s $57 with the code JAN18 on gmg and around $50 if you buy from one of the key reseller sites.

Tried the demo for a bit.
A. Framepacing is terrible, changing settings or locking at 30 fps don't help.
B. Playing this really made me want to replay Little Witch Nobeta, or XCX

are you using VRR? try NVIDIA's frame limiter cap with VRR. its mostly fine on my end, feels smooth

Make sure you keep your content filters turn on when searching online about Forspoken characters, the rule34 crowd is pumping out explicit content like no tomorrow and you wouldn't want to stumble across anything bad.

Thought of capping it with nvidia frame limiter, but honestly didn't want to bother too much since i was mostly curious to see how combat played out.

Still, performance was all over the place too, standard settings kept going from upper 50s to low 30s for no apparent reason, Dynamic res didn't seem to be working, DLSS didn't help much. It was actually better to just crank up settings and lock to 30, though game still stuttered at the slight movement of the camera, it'd probably play better with a controller.

are you restarting the game once you change some settings? i actually had a performance drop once i enabled dlss lol
