4090s back in stock. Just purchased one. I'm sick to my stomach

After purchasing I went straight to youtube reviewing all the comparison videos trying to muster up some modicum of justification for what I just did to my bank account.
I know that feeling. We all did this at some point I guess. I am like that even for smaller stuff I don't REALLY need.

I have teh exact same set up 5800x and 4090 and it runs just fine via LG C2 you’ll enjoy it for sure and runs everything maxed out 4k with RT at silly frame rates.

Only thing is you’ll have the horrible of gaming experience of the interface and software.

It's your money. Of course you could have spend it wiser but tell that people buying coke and whores. Sorry, I mean prostitutes. In contrast to them you'll enjoy the GPU waaay longer.

Other people spend +1000€ on a TV or on a serious sound setup. Given that an AMP alone cost you easily 700 EUR these days, those are rookie numbers. Compared to what people spend their money on and the kind of amount, 1.700 is serious but not extraordinary for a hobby. It's however more than you usually had to spend.

your choice you gonna go with it or back out and hold on.

I would never spend that much on a graphics card but enjoy. Its one hell of a card.

Pro's.. enjoy gaming without the usual contraints with lower end hardware and consoles. Enjoy hundreds if not thousands of hours with the thing for years. And has excellent resale value.

Cons.. Obvious, but its a lot of money; can be used for stuff like vacations etc. Then there's power draw and heat.

Another thing is that its the only GPU this generation worth getting if looking for an upgrade from a 3080. Everything else is a minor upgrade and costs way too much for the performance gained.

I got a 4080 and no regrets.

This card is fucking insane and destroys everything I'm throwing at it.

I can play Flight Simulator at 60+ fps now when before I had it locked to 30fps and would get drops to around 20fps :messenger_tears_of_joy: I'm getting 100-130fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with max settings including RTX. On my old card I was getting 50-60fps with non max settings and sometimes as low as 20fps if I had RTX on.

yeah the card is "cheating" by using DLSS3 but honestly that's a selling point. DLSS3 frame generation is insane. without it Cyberpunk runs at about 50-70fps and with it 100-130fps :messenger_face_screaming:

in Fortnite i couldn't enable any rtx or the new UE5 stuff without taking a major hit. my 4080 can max the game out and do 70-90fps. You might think Fortnite is a joke but it's one of the most demanding and technologically advanced games right now.

enjoy your card.

Lol yeah I just tried Cyberpunk after the new update, it’s maxing out my screen refresh at 165hz with everything on max including the RT and psycho settings 😅

yeah sorry its a dumb purchase,
there are like handful of showcase games
( which you already probably played) to see a meaningful impact with it.

while you wait for games, 5090, 6090 will come along, which you will continue to buy yearly for 2k.

i would seek help unless im not a millionaire or something.

I had a similar uneasy feeling that I blew money black friday when I ordered a gaming laptop for $1k, but once it arrived and I used it a while I knew I made the right choice. Once in a while, you just gotta buy the stuff you want.

In a moment of weakness I spotted a MSI 4090 Gaming X Trio for $1649.99. 50 bucks over MSRP. I couldn't stop myself from clicking on it. Look at the product description, thought of the power, and could not contain myself.

After purchasing I went straight to youtube reviewing all the comparison videos trying to muster up some modicum of justification for what I just did to my bank account.

"I already have a 3080 do I really need this."

No, of course I don't. I game fine on my current rig.

I make this thread not to brag or throw it people's face. I come for support. I come to discuss the pro's and cons and to hear any advice you folks might have.

Am I a fool or am I officially a premium gaming enthusiast who should just say fuck it, YOLO and be thankful that I actually have the ability to do this. Could I have spent the 1700+ dollars better.

Bills are paid, food on the table, no kids to speak of. What do you guys think?
First, that is MSRP. The Gaming X Trio is $1649. The Gaming Trio is $1599. Second, I went from a 3080 to a 4090. NO regrets. It’s incredible. Expensive? Yes. Fantastic? YES.

Enjoy your purchase, if money isn't a problem, why not? On my side, I have the money but that's too much for my taste, 500$ is my hard limit for a GPU.

Nitty_Grimes

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
I mean its a brilliant card but my purchase was more FOMO - I didn't need it at all. I'm so far into my PS5 save of Cyberpunk 2077 for example that I've stuck to playing it on the console despite triple the frames and double the resolution available to me on the PC.

I could transfer the save over I suppose but then I've got half of the trophies on the PS5 version now, don't suppose they will unlock on Steam.

It's sad thing to say but these days this is not enough for any decent GPU outside the used markert. Which is crazy because the ps5 as a whole system with a 2070s level graphics card is 500$ .

Leave it to Nvidia and amd to fuck things up .

I really hope all their sales flop but .. seeing how good the 4090 is selling and me being part of the problem. I don't have high hopes. At least for the halo products.

But the bad sales for the 4080 and 4070ti is refreshing at least.

If you want to feel better, try donating some money to a charity. Then get back to feeling good about the high powered GPU.

Yeah, it would be simple for me to purchase another XSX on my basement TV than building a new gaming rig. I got a 1070 on the PC so visual fidelity is about the same on both TVs. But I would love to have a 4K capable GPU, I'll just wait for the next wave.

Its a good buy, its the only GPU that makes sense, its a shame its the high end.

It does need a 1440p/300+hz or 4k/165+hz screen tho.. otherwise, it's a waste

Bro at 4K its 92% more performant than a 3080, fuck it. I mean, you may still be a fool if you really did not need it, but thats why we say "fuck it" =P

If you're financially set and it's not gonna create a hardship I wouldn't stress too much over it.

You might regret it a few months from now but whatever, that's life.

Hope you enjoy it!

Save this message. I WILL NOT BUY THE 5080. Let's see where I'm at Q4 2024.

I mean if you keep the 4090, then sure, why would you do that? lol, my point was that you sell the 4090 and keep the 3080 because moving from a 3080 to a 5080 makes better financial sense.

You're absolutely right. That was my original position. It's the whole money urning a hole in my pocket thing. Plus I got some friends who really could use an upgrade and are willing to buy my 3080 from me for $600. They prefer buying from me because they know I didn't overclock it or mine with it. It's still under warranty as well. So technically I'm pretty much guaranteeing I'm getting the 4090 for $1200

Ive been waiting a while to snag a 4090 FE after a new build last year. Only the FE will fit in my case. Finally got one by just asking a best buy rep on chat to hook me up. Kind of crazy that works.

How much do these 4k 120 oled monitors cost? As I know cheaper side 1440p is still $300 minimum and a quick glance for 4k 120hz oled is showing $1,100+ , insane amount of money to pay for a monitor and gpu, in these high inflationary times.

I guess if you are wealthy (and I envy you, who wouldn't want those monitors). I got bills and a desktop/tech job with a peasly salary that isn't rising if at all. Will be content to live in 1080/1440p 3060ti land for as long as I can. Shit my tvs are all still 1080p as it seems wastefull to get rid of a perfectly good 1080p set.
Yes, definitely not cheap. I got a refurb 48 in LG OLED tv for $900 about a year ago. You can buy new ones for $900 now. Best bang for buck is definitely 1440p tho. My post was really just trying to point out how unreasonable 4k 120 ultra really is since there is only one video card out there that can do it and it can BARELY do it in most modern games.

Please tell me that's because the 4090 is weak and not because of incompetent and useless devs... -_-
Wait one of if not the best looking games is graphically intensive to run at Ultra settings Raytracing native 4K..........and you are saying the devs are incompetent and useless.

You will do the same thing in late 2024 when the 5090 hits. It sucks, but you'll get used to it. Lucky for you, you didn't spend every day in October/November looking for one or getting ass raped by the terrible 2 hour randomly distributed by region, BB queues. Fuck that company.

I'm thinking about taking the plunge myself... but the ones available are the ones with the most coil whine complaints... I'm not super sensitive to PC noise in general but maybe it's best to wait for a Gigabyte model... decisions decisions.

It's crazy how expensive cards have become, especially so quickly. I bought a pc with a 1080 when they were shiny new, right before the bitcoin mining craze hit. $1600 got me a 1080, 32gb ram, 256ssd and a tb hd. I did sink an extra $400 for a nice 2k gsync monitor.

lmao, I remember thinking that I was future-proofing myself for Star Citizen.

If you can pay for your lifestyle and invest enough to retire on and still have enough to splurge then sure why not.
I think the trick is to only splurge occasionally so that it means something and feels special.

I had a chance to get a 4070 ti last night.
I told myself to wait and see what 5080 / ti delivers.
Currently with a 2060 super, so the upgrade for me will be big.
Definitely, it's the same thing I felt when I upgraded from a 1070ti to 3080. Enjoy it.

footnote: sorry to bump this thread, but Amazon just charged my account, which means the GPU is shipping any moment now. Came back to read the whole thread the bathe in the support from you guys. :messenger_heart:

I'm sorry you feel this way. I did make this post in good faith though. I really was reeling from the decision and the boys had my back, whether it was positive or negative feedback. I appreciated it all.

I wasn't even aware there was a 4090 owners thread.

ok last response, promise. Sorry for the triple post.
