Xbox signs 10 year agreement with NVIDIA to bring Xbox pc+ Activision Blizzard PC games to GeForce NOW

Brad Smith at Microsoft has announced a new deal with Nvidia, that will bring Call of Duty and all Xbox games (that are on PC) to its services. "Nvidia's GeForce Now service already has 25 million" players, Smith says.
Microsoft will be bringing its Xbox games, that play on PC, to Nvidia's Geforce service. If the deal is approved, it will bring Activision Blizzard's games to GeForce Now, too, including Call of Duty.

^ from their current EU press conference.

Banger after banger after banger.

MS making true to their promise of bringing games to more people.

But late isn't it?

It shouldn't have taken a 70 billion dollar acquisition to be on the line for this kind of agreement to happen.

This is actually really smart. It might give them another avenue to sell a PC GP sub to (assuming they eventually allow the Xbox app to run on there). Even though they have their own offering, I can see users with Steam and Epic libraries using the service rather than going GPU and using MS's own service.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

It shouldn't have taken any acquisitions for unions to get more representation either. But both these things are getting their due for any given reason now and it's a good thing.

Credit is where it's due, even if it's late.

How come Phil sees Stadia and Luna as competition but not GeForce?

Amazon and Google were/are gaming platforms similar to console in a way, providing both the platform to purchase content and creating content themselves.

GeForce is a hardware rental service and nothing more, they don't sell games directly or develop them.

‘Late’? For a service/market that’s still in its infancy?

GeForce: you can have literally every game we make
Sony: you can have Call of Duty for a limited time

Yeah I wonder why they are pushing back.

10 years is a long ass time.

GeForce Now is for purchased and free to play games only. Dreaming that the Xbox app will run through geforce now tells me you have no idea how the service operates.

There are ways around it to get subscription services on GeForce now, but layering launchers isn't it.

There is no good reason that any PC gaming publisher or developer should object to their games being played via a remote computing cloud service provider as long as those games are purchased via legitimate means.

Blocking your paying customers from playing their games is nonsense and should never have been in place from the start. The reason why they didn't allow their games via geforce now was clear - they wanted to funnel everyone through xcloud (which also means a subscription is required).

Would really like to listen to the negotiations regarding that. With big Microsoft involved there, I wonder if some other things were signed too (like they did with their AI initiative and Nvidia).

I'm familiar with the service and have tried it, yes. If MS allows the Xbox store to be accessed via GeForce (like Steam, Origin and Epic already are), that would allow people to play the games they had purchased through the Xbox Store (as if anyone does that, haha) or if they had a GP for PC sub they could download the games to the virtual device the same as Steam and Epic are doing now (At least the games that MS has control over, the first-party stuff).

I'm not talking about streaming the games to the Geforce virtual device. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Finally team green and team green joining together. MS should sold the gaming department to NVidia anyway, because Nvidia can't do no wrong 🙌

To use geforce now you just link your accounts (steam, epic, etc), you don't install or use any launchers through the service. From there you can play the games you've purchased on those 3rd party storefronts via the service.

So not sure what you're talking about.

Yes, they link your accounts to grab a list of compatible titles in your account, but headless launchers from the different stores are absolutely running on those virtual machines. You can even shift+tab and pull up the Steam overlay in any steam game, so I'm not sure what you are on about with that. You also have full access to your friends lists, etc. as provided by the launchers of those games. Nvidia is not running their own service with these.

MS could choose to share this same list of compatible titles (including compatible GP sub titles if they chose) and Nvidia could launch the games the same way (via the Xbox launcher using direct links). There is no real difference here.

They don't give you free access to the launchers no, only because they could not control the software you launched which would be a legal nightmare for them. Using the headless approach they can limit things to just "approved" titles.

GeForce Now isn’t a separate competing platform - it’s PC.
If anything nobody should have to strike any deal with GeForce, because they’re just allowing PC players to play the games they already own.

This acquisition keeps getting better and better!
Yeah this is great, I used to use Geforce Now quite a bit a couple years ago, at my location it’s by far the best streaming service with very little latency. Not sure I have any use for it right now though but it was great when I wanted to try RT without a RTX card.

Microsoft and NVIDIA will begin work immediately to integrate Xbox PC games into GeForce NOW, so that GeForce NOW members can stream PC games they buy in the Windows Store, including third-party partner titles where the publisher has granted streaming rights to NVIDIA. Xbox PC games currently available in third party stores like Steam or Epic Games Store will also be able to be streamed through GeForce NOW.
